A school shooting at Noblesville West Middle School could have been a lot worse if not for the bravery of science teacher Jason Seaman.
According to reports, Seaman tackled a student gunman to the ground after he opened fire in his seventh grade Indiana classroom on Friday, May 25. Seaman, 30, was shot three times as a result. Witnesses say the unidentified gunman burst into Seaman’s science class at Noblesville West Middle School at 9:06 a.m. and opened fire, critically injuring a 13-year-old girl. Seaman is also a football coach at the school.
The teenage girl who was shot is currently in critical condition. Furthermore, the suspect is currently in custody, but no other information about their identity has been released, other than that he is a student.
A woman who identified herself as Seaman’s mother posted on Facebook that Jason was shot three times and was in surgery, stating that he was in “good condition.” Seaman is reportedly a father of two.
The shooting comes one week after 10 people were killed at a school in Santa Fe, Texas. Fortunately, no one was killed in the incident at Noblesville West.

Police said that Noblesville West Middle School has been cleared. Police are investigating a threat at Noblesville High School but said it is just a threat.
“We have no reason to believe there is any kind of a threat connected to this incident anywhere else,” Jowitt said. “We’re also, however, aware of a secondary threat that’s been made at Noblesville High School. We have multiple officers and a command post established at Noblesville High School and are diligently ensuring the safety of students and staff there. We have not received any information that this has been anything other than a communicated threat and again we are securing Noblesville High School and taking steps to ensure that it stays secure.”
Eighth-grader Chris Navarro said he was inside an auditorium when he counted hearing 16 gunshots about a minute before the bell rang for the change in classes.
“The speaker came on and said we were on lockdown and people rushed in and we went to the back of the room. I went into this little room in the back with three other people,” he said calmly standing between his parents as they picked him up.
The active shooting at Noblesville West Middle School is just the latest in a string of lockdowns, bomb threats, and shootings that have plagued the United States. Over the course of the past few years, shootings such as these have been a scourge upon the country and our nation’s leaders have yet to come up with a solution.
This incident follows similar incidents at Santa Fe High School in Texas, Marjory Stoneman Douglas in Florida, Dodd Middle School in Connecticut, Windham Public Schools also in Connecticut, Pacoima Middle School in Los Angeles, Millennium Middle School in Florida, and US Grant High School in Oklahoma, which are just some of the places where lockdowns and shootings have occurred.
