Thursday, May 24, 2018 marks the 30th anniversary of Red Nose Day in the UK, and the 3rd anniversary of the event in the US. Red Nose Day is a fundraising campaign dedicated to ending child poverty and benefiting children and young people all around the world by encouraging the purchase of a symbolic “Red Nose,” hence the name of the day. Since its inception in 1988, the program boasts that it has raised over 1 billion dollars.
This year, the Red Nose Day campaign is partnering with Walgreens to make sure everyone in the US shows their support by wearing, or at least buying, a Red Nose. An official Red Nose cost only $1, and Walgreens has pledged to donate half its proceeds to the campaign. And, of course, you can simply donate directly to the cause.
Money raised from the campaign is directed straight towards the following charities: Boys & Girls Clubs of America; charity: water; Children’s Health Fund; Covenant House; Feeding America; Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; UnidosUS; Save the Children and The Global Fund, according to their website.
Tons of celebrities are hopping on board with the campaign as well, including Amanda Seyfried, Retta, Danny Trejo, Liam Neeson, Shemar Moore, Ed Sheeran, and Keira Knightly, among others. The list doesn’t stop there though, as NBC will be hosting The Red Nose Day Special with plenty more stars like Jack Black, Jennifer Garner, Kristen Bell, Kelly Clarkson, Julia Roberts,
To put all that money in perspective, the Red Nose Day official website asks its potential patrons to consider a couple questions:
