The 2018 Preakness took place on Saturday, May 19 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. It marked the 143rd running of “The Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown”, which is also known as “The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans.” The eight-horse field hit the dirt track for another exciting edition of the 1 3⁄16 mi (9.5 furlongs; 1,900 m) race on NBC.
Justify, winner of the 2018 Kentucky Derby, entered the race as the heavy favorite as he looked to keep his unbeaten record intact. Other horses competing in the Preakness are Tampa Bay Derby winner Quip, Bravazo and Lone Sailor, who competed in the Kentucky Derby, Federico Tesio Stakes winner Diamond King, Blue Grass Stakes fourth-place finisher Sporting Chance, and Arkansas Derby fifth-place finisher Tenfold.
