UFC Moscow has become a reality. On Wednesday morning, the Ultimate Fighting Championship confirmed a long-rumored event will be taking place in the Russian capital. It marks the leading mixed martial arts promotion’s first-ever trip to Russia. There is one change, however, with the event being a UFC Fight Night rather than a rumored pay-per-view.
UFC officials announced that a card will take place on Sept. 15 at Olimpiyskiy Arena.
“Russia is a key part of UFC’s international expansion strategy,” UFC senior vice president of international and content David Shaw said in a statement. “The demand from our fans to bring a live event to Russia has been overwhelming, and with the vast potential this market holds for us, we knew this was the perfect time to bring UFC Fight Night to Moscow.”
Along with the announcement that the UFC will be heading to the Russian capital, the promotion introduced Andre Gromkovski as the new vice president for UFC Russia.
No fights for the event have been confirmed at this time and it is highly unlikely that UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will be among the promotion’s Russian stars who will fight on the card.
However, tickets are set to go on sale June 1 so you can expect to hear some announcements in the coming weeks.
