Marianny Egurrola will be representing Miss Georgia USA 2018 at the upcoming Miss USA pageant. The 25-year-old Buford native, who immigrated to the United States from Colombia when she was 15 years old, succeeds 2017 winner DeAnna Johnson. Since 2012, Miss Georgia USA has had three contestants place in the top five of the Miss USA pageant. She attended the University of Georgia and graduated with a degree in International Affairs.
Egurrola became the first Latina woman to win Miss Georgia.
“I am so proud that this is happening, because when I was competing even this year, one of my doubts was that I was not born in the United States, and I am Latina,” she said, via CBS-46. “But everything changed and I am so glad it did.”
Along with being a beauty queen, Egurrola is an international actress and model, and the founder of her own organization Seas of Smiles.
She hopes to use her platform as Miss Georgia USA to help people of “all races, cultures, and backgrounds” focus “on personal growth, their self-esteem and confidence .”

Miss USA takes place Monday, May 21 at Hirsch Memorial Coliseum in Shreveport, Louisiana. The pageant will air live on FOX. The Miss Universe pageant will take place at a yet-to-be-determined date.
