Thandie Newton is an English actress best known for her roles in the films Beloved (1998), The Pursuit of Happyness (2003), Mission: Impossible 2 (2000), Crash (2004) and Norbit (2007). For her work in Crash (which won the Academy Award for best pictures) which she received a number of awards, including a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
Beginning in 2016, Newton began playing the sentient android Maeve Millay in the HBO science fiction-Western television series Westworld. For her work on Westworld, Newton earned Critics’ Choice Award, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Emmy Award nominations.
Newton was born in Westminster, London, England, and studied dance at the Tring Park School for the Performing Arts. From 1992 to 1995, Newton attended Downing College, Cambridge, where she studied social anthropology. In 2018, Newton appeared in three films: Gringo, The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, and most notably, Solo: A Star Wars Story.
While Thandie Newton has been around for two decades now, she may be in the midst of her peak as she stars as Maeve on Westworld, which HBO hopes becomes their next Game of Thrones.
