A dying veteran in Mississippi had one final wish: to have one last dance with a beautiful woman. The Phi Mu sorority at the University of Southern Mississippi went above and beyond to grant his wish.

They hosted a dance with 92-year-old Paul Sonnier, a Navy Veteran of World World II, and made him the center of attention.

Jessica Moreau first met Sonnier when she worked as a social work intern at SouthernCare Hospice Services in Hattiesburg, MS.

“He said, ‘I’ll teach you the jitterbug and the waltz,’” Moreau said. “He’s a flirt, but in a nice way.”

During one of her visits, Sonnier told Moreau that his final wish would be to “dance with a beautiful woman.”

Phi Mu chapter president Cameron Ponder said the dance was a way to “honor someone that has done so much for our country.”

Family members of Sonnier said that he was in the Navy during the attack on Pearl Harbor and served during World War II, NEWS3 reports.

“What we appreciate the most is that our greatest generation member, my father, is happy that this younger generation appreciates everything that he did and sacrificed so they can sit here and have fun and have the freedoms that they have,” said Sonnier’s daughter, Ida Sonnier.
