Baker Mayfield was born in Austin, Texas on April 14, 1995.
Mayfield attended Lake Travis High School, where he was the starting quarterback for the Lake Travis Cavaliers.
During his time at Lake Travis, Mayfield led the Cavaliers to a 25-2 record in two seasons. He helped Lake Travis win the 2011 Texas 4A State Championship. His high school career finished with him throwing for 6,255 yards, 67 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions.
Once he graduated from Lake Travis, Mayfield decided to take his talents to Texas Tech University.

After heading to Texas Tech, Mayfield was named the starting quarterback a short time before the start of the 2013 season as a freshman. It was said, he’s the first freshman — who was also a true walk-on — to start a season opener.
That 2013 season, Baker would finish with 2,315 yards on 218 completions, and he would throw for 12 touchdowns, earning him the honor of Big 12 Conference Freshman Offensive Player of the Year. Mayfield eventually left Texas Tech and enrolled at the University of Oklahoma in January 2014.
Mayfield was named starting QB of the Sooners before the beginning of the 2015 season. He would have an exceptional season, including passing for 3,700 passing yards and 37 touchdowns. His season would gain him a Heisman Trophy nod, where he would finish fourth in the voting. Mayfield’s performance also led Oklahoma to the College Football Playoff Semifinal — the Orange Bowl — where he and his team would lose to Clemson, 37-13.
Following his breakout year in 2015, he received several honors from Sporting News Player of the Year to the first of two consecutive Burlsworth Trophies, to his first Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year award, to his first nods as First-team Big 12 and All-American.
In 2016, Mayfield once again earned Heisman recognition for another terrific season. He would finish third in the voting after throwing for 40 TDs and 3,965 yards. That season, Mayfield brought the Sooners to the Sugar Bowl where they were victorious 35-19. He was awarded Sugar Bowl MVP for his performance.
Mayfield was arrested on February 25, 2017, in Washington County, Arkansas. Reports said he was arrested for public intoxication and fleeing charges.
His final season as a senior at Oklahoma in 2017 was a wild one. Mayfield’s antics started to question his maturity from his critics. But on the field, Mayfield was top dog. He threw for a record 41 touchdowns and whopping 4,340 yards. And after years of being close, Mayfield finally was awarded the Heisman Trophy. He would also take home the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp, and Davey O’ Brien Awards, and be named AP Player of the Year.
Mayfield declared for the NFL Draft a short time after the Rose Bowl loss to Georgia.
Despite all the talk about his maturity and controversy, Baker Mayfield is going to be a good quarterback in the NFL for a very long time. And if not that, he’ll be one of the best personalities to come into the league in quite some time.
