John Williams has been identified as the primary suspect in the murder of Cpl. Eugene Cole, a Somerset County, Maine sheriff’s deputy. Cole was murdered in Norridgewock, Maine between 1 and 2 AM according to police.
Williams allegedly shot Cole and then proceeded to steal his cruiser. He followed up these crimes by robbing a Cumberland Farms store. The cruiser was later found in Norridgewock and it is believed Williams then fled on foot.
Cole was a 13 year veteran of the Somerset County sheriff’s department. He also has a son David, who is also a sheriff’s deputy with the Somerset County department.
Williams has been described by police as 5-foot 6-inches tall, weighing about 120 pounds, with brown hair shaved on the sides with a ponytail on the top of his head. He is also described as having blue eyes. Williams is from Madison Maine.
