We Need To Talk About The Clark’s

Madison, Nick, Alicia and their pals Strand and Luciana have taken up residence in an abandoned baseball stadium. Things seem to be pretty peaceful when we see their new digs and it turns out they’ve been living there for a whole year. So what could possibly have led to the savage state we saw them in at the end of last week’s season premiere? While all but Nick go out to look for a young girl’s family outside the walls, it seems Nick hung up his knife to look after the communities food supply. I’m sure there’s a totally normal explanation why the guy who once willingly wandered into zombie streets covered in guts is spooked to go outside the walls.

With his family and friends still gone, Nick musters the courage to take a vehicle and leave the settlement for the first time. Bad idea? Yeah, bad idea, Nick. He’s still traumatized by the explosion of the dam from last season, almost losing everyone in the aftermath, and clearly there aren’t any nearby therapist’s who made it this far into the apocalypse.

Hands Up, Don’t Shoot

Hello, woman threatening me at gunpoint! Let me try and talk you down from stealing my vehicle by inviting you to my settlement! Too bad it’s four against one and this lady just climbed on a very unstable water tower roof that collapses within seconds. Of course it wouldn’t be Fear The Walking Dead without walkers covered in ooze down there to make their escape gross but enjoyable to watch.

Their new filthy friend is Naomi, who now trusts them after risking their lives to save her. Naomi returns with them to the Diamond and surprise, she’s a nurse! Sometimes not killing people has it’s upsides, especially when they can contribute to the wellbeing of the group.

Unexpected Company

Just when things were going so well and we learn the stadium has working showers, a fleet of commercial trucks storm the gate. As if that wasn’t a dick move, these assholes brought a boom box to lure walkers to the location. That’s some Negan level shit. To make the situation even more uncomfortable, this gang of truckers seem to mark the community with a No. 12 — much like what we saw in the season premiere with flags posted with the No. 51. It seems these people are not only identifying territories, but gathering knowledge about them as they go.

In a creepy twist, the little girl whose family the Clark’s went to search for turns out to be a pawn to gain intel for this group of truckers. The leader Mel gives Madison a choice: either leave and join them or wait to die and lose everything to them anyway. Who wouldn’t want to make a deal with this charmer?

While Mel and his group of truckers take up residence outside the walls of the stadium, Madison goes on business as usual in the community. It takes more than guys with trucks and a creepy kid to scare this woman away.
