NFL Free Agency: Top 4 Free Agents Still Available

The NFL offseason has cooled a bit since a lot of the big names have come off the board. Recently some mid-level moves were made. Wide receiver Mike Wallace signed with the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles on a 1-year deal, per ESPN Adam Schefter. The New York Giants traded Jason Pierre-Paul to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per ESPN Adam Schefter. And longtime veteran running back Frank Gore signed with the Dolphins on a 1-year deal, as reported by Miami Herald.

The NFL draft is about a month away (Apr 26, 2018 – Apr 28, 2018), so who are the best available free agents left on the market?

1. Ndamukong Suh

Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was recently released from the Miami Dolphins as they continue to purge their roster. He was about to enter his 4th year with the team after signing a 6-year $114 mil contract in 2015. The Dolphins never fully received the production they had expected from Suh, especially for the amount of money they had invested in him.

Suh has been hampered by not only lack of production, but on the field incidents that have earned him the reputation as a dirty player. At 31 years old he will not come close to getting the money of his previous contract. He can still be a very productive player for a team looking for a big body to clog up the middle in the run game. The downside to Suh at this point in his career is his ability to rush the passer. His sack totals have gone down in each of the last three seasons.

2. Eric Reid

Former San Fransico 49ers safety Eric Reid is the next best available free agent left on the market. Reid has the ability to be a very productive player but has been apart of some very bad teams in San Francisco the past couple of seasons. He is a hard-hitting former first-round pick who is still young at 26 years old.

Eric Reid has been one of the more outspoken players during the anthem protests, and that might be one of the reasons he has not yet been signed. He himself has attributed the protest as a reason for lack of offers from teams. Recently he has walked back some as it pertains to the protest.

3. Jordan Matthews

After spending just one uneventful season in Buffalo Jordan Matthews is the best WR left on the market. With last season being an outlier Matthews was very productive in his first three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. All three seasons with Philadelphia he had 67+ receptions and over 800 yards receiving. His most productive season was in 2015 where he caught 85 passes for 997 yards and 8 TD. Matthews lacks breakaway speed and is best suited as a matchup problem from the slot. If utilized right he can make a significant impact on a team in 2018.

4. Kenny Vaccaro

Saftey Kenny Vaccaro has not fully lived up to the hype for the New Orleans Saints after being selected in the first round of the 2013 draft. The problem Vaccaro had during his time with the Saints was finding a role that highlighted his skills. Vaccaro can play safety, corner, or linebacker depending on the situation. His coverage skills are average at best, but he is a solid tackler in the open field. If he can find the right scheme to fit into Vaccaro can be a defensive playmaker.
