After graduating from Berkeley High School, California in 1996, he spent two years at University of California, Santa Cruz. He had identified in his early years that creative writing was his passion, and soon transferred to NYU’s Tisch School of Arts. It was from there he would graduate in 2000, with a major in experimental film.

The first few years of his career, he acted in numerous short films and TV series, such as a parody of the O.C (2003) entitled “The ‘Bu”, a TV movie and a full-length pilot entitled “Awesometown” many of which were showcased on channel101.com, making him and his childhood friends, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, who worked together under the handle The Lonely Island, something of an internet and youtube sensation. He even guest-starred in an early episode of Arrested Development. It was following this that the actor auditioned for Saturday Night Live.

In 2005, he joined the cast of ever-running, Emmy winning television comedy show, Saturday Night Live. It was there that the comedian showed his acting prowess, his comedy chops, and his musical talent, in which he wrote and performed a series of musical compositions along with fellow members of the band, The Lonely Island.

You remember them. You definitely remember their songs, such as “I Just Had Sex”, feat. Akon, “Dick in a Box” feat. Justin Timberlake which won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for Saturday Night Live in 2007 and “Cool Guys Don’t Look at Explosions”, one of their earlier compositions.

You might also remember them for their later performance in the Lego Movie (2014), in the song “Everything is Awesome”, which won Best Song – Animated Film in the Hollywood Media in Music Awards in 2014, as well as Best Song in the Iowa Film Critics Awards.

During his time as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, the actor also starred in such films as Hot Rod (2007) and I Love You, Man (2009), and guest roles in Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist (2008), Friends with Benefits (2011), What’s Your Number? (2011) as well as appeared in episodes of Parks And Recreation, Human Giant (2007-2008), and 30 Rock.

He also displayed his uncanny talent for voice acting in the popular animated films Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (2009), starring alongside fellow Saturday Night Live cast member Bill Hader and Anna Faris, and Hotel Transylvania (2012), with Adam Sandler and Selena Gomez, as well as the sequels for both. He also provided guest voice roles for shows such as American Dad and our favorite resident in a pineapple under the sea, SpongeBob SquarePants.

2012 – 2018

Andy Samberg was with Saturday Night Live for 7 years before finally breaking away to star and produce in his own television series, a comedy show entitled Brooklyn Nine-Nine, about the NYPD, alongside comedian Chelsea Peretti and actor Terry Crews, and many others.

The show has till date won 2 Primetime Emmy’s and 2 Golden Globes, one for the performance of Andy Samberg as Detective Jake Peralta for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical. The show even recently participated in a crossover with the show New Girl, starring Zooey Deschanel.

He still continues to exercise his funny bone with such movies as Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016), and Michael Bolton’s Big Sexy Valentine’s Day Special (2017).

With Brooklyn Nine-Nine still getting laughs and Hotel Transylvania 3 in the works, this comedian’s net worth for 2018 is estimated at $20 million dollars, and if his success in the past is any indicator, it’s only likely to keep climbing. I’d say the monkey won. Finally some closure.
