With conference play underway in NCAA basketball, there is a game between two quality teams from the Big 12. These teams are the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the TCU Horned Frogs. Last season, TCU successfully defended its home court and escaped with a thrilling 62-61 victory. Now, TCU will look to defend its home court once more and to potentially rejoin the AP top 25. Expect this game to be extremely competitive similarly to the contest last year.
Texas Tech is currently the tenth best team in the country according to the AP poll. The team’s success is due to its elite defense. This season, Texas Tech is allowing 62.5 points per game which is the sixth-lowest in all of college basketball this season. The Red Raiders also average the 11th most steals per game with 8.1 and use constant pressure to keep their opponents off-guard. This combo gives the Red Raiders one of the best defenses in all of college basketball which should be able to limit TCU’s offense on Saturday.
TCU’s success is due to its high scoring offense. This season, the Horned Frogs average the 13th most points per game in all of college basketball with 86.5 points per game. Its scoring offense is due to its elite three point shooting and unselfish style of play. TCU is currently shooting 41% from the three point line and the team ranks second in all of college basketball in assists per game. This combo makes TCU almost impossible to outscore which is what Texas Tech will have to do on Saturday if it wants to win this contest.
As for my prediction, I have to side with TCU. I personally think that these two teams are relatively even but I think that TCU’s home court will provide enough of a spark to allow the Horned Frogs to win this contest.
