This Saturday, there is a game between two uneven teams. These teams are the Duke Blue Devils and the St. John’s Red Storm. According to the AP poll, Duke is currently ranked in the top-five while St. John’s is currently unranked. However, despite the talent disparity between these two teams, the game will still be played in Madison Square Garden which should result in a sellout crowd. Expect the crowd to play an important role in this contest as this game will be more competitive than people think.

Duke’s success is due to its star forward Marvin Bagley III. This season, Bagley is averaging 21.5 points per game along with 11.4 rebounds. Bagley has looked like one of the best players in the country this season and is a serious contender to win the Naismith College Player of the Year Award. Entering this season, Bagley was expected to be one of the top picks in the upcoming NBA Draft and that will likely come true if he goes pro after the season. Expect Bagley to have a big game on Saturday if Duke plans on winning this contest.

St. John’s started the season by only losing two of its first 12 games. However, since then, the team has been in an absolute free fall and has lost 11 straight games. St. John’s is led by star point guard Shamorie Ponds who is averaging 19.7 points per game along with 5.1 rebounds and 4.7 assists. As a sophomore, Ponds is already one of the best players in his conference and one can expect him to perform extremely well under the bright lights in Madison Square Garden on Saturday.

As for my prediction, I have to side with Duke. Duke is clearly the deeper and more talented team and I expect Duke to force the ball out of Ponds hands frequently in order to force someone else to beat them. I think that Bagley will have another big game as he carries Duke to another victory.
