The California wildfires have destroyed thousands of buildings, driving 20,000 people from their homes, with reported dozens of people having lost their lives and at least 100 people reported missing. There are various ways for you to help those affected by the fire, especially people who live in the California area. CNN has listed a few resources people can use if they need help or if they want to offer themselves to help.

Tubbs Fire Info Page

You can donate aid through the Tubbs Fire Facebook page, which has posted information on evacuations, rentals, and helping victims, including pets that had been lost or found in the fire zone. The page also has volunteer information for people who live in the area.

Facebook Safety Check-In Page

Another Facebook page features posts from people both asking for help and posts from people who want to offer their help. In addition, the page lists areas with mandatory evacuations and affected areas.

Wine County Animal Lovers

Another resource for injured pets is coming from the Wine County Animal Lovers group. Offering pet supplies to help those evacuated keep their pets with them, the page also lists ways of fundraising and free resources for those with injured pets, such as a link to the Sonoma Humane Society.

Airbnb

The online hospitality service is offering free rooms for those who have been evacuated from their homes, as well as relief workers, from October 8 to October 30. As asked on their website, “If you have available housing in the area indicated on the map, please consider making your home available.”

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is also looking for volunteers to help. According to their website, “Our vital work is only possible because of people like you…Whether helping one displaced family or thousands, providing care and comfort to an ill or injured service member or veteran, or teaching others how to respond in emergencies, it’s through the efforts of ordinary people that we can do extraordinary things.”

Providing medical resources for local health centers and clinics, DirectRelief has given  emergency assistance to California’s Office of Emergency Services and the Napa County Public Health Department, among over 40 health clinics and centers in the area harmed by the fire. Providing N-95 masks, the website warns that, “Beyond the immediate danger posed to nearby communities, wildfires can exacerbate chronic health issues such as asthma, bronchitis and other respiratory problems. For those with such conditions, fires deal a harsh mix of smoke, dust and other particulates in the air.”
