Harry Dean Stanton, Legendary Actor, Dead At Age 91

Harry Dean Stanton graced the silver screen for nearly seven decades. On Friday afternoon, Stanton passed away at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 91. He’s appeared in classic films such as Cool Hand Luke, Godfather Part II, Pretty In Pink, and nearly 200 other hundreds.

Most recently, Stanton appeared on the revival of Twin Peaks this past summer. He’s set to appear in an upcoming Frank Sinatra called Frank and Ava which has yet to be released.

Stanton was born on July 14, 1926, in West Irvine, Kentucky. He’s a World War II veteran, who served in the Navy and fought in the Battle of Okinawa, according to KET. He also severed as a cook aboard the LST (landing ship, tank). After the war, he settled on the west coast of the United States, where he took up theater and later transitioned his talents to television, appearing on shows such as Rawhide and Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

He also appeared in films for a number of famously creative directors, including including Francis Ford Coppola, Wim Wenders, John Hughes, Martin Scorcese, Terry Gilliam and David Lynch.

Stanton had a niche for playing odd character, which the eye of director David Lynch. Stanton has appeared in a variety of projects for Lynch, including Wild at Heart, Inland Empire and Twin Peaks: The Return.

On Friday evening, David Lynch commemorated the late actor by saying, “The great Harry Dean Stanton has left us. There went a great one. There’s nobody like Harry Dean.”

A cause of death for Harry Dean Stanton has yet to be determined.
