School Shooting At Washington State High School Leaves Four Injured

Freeman School District

There has been a shooting at Freeman High School in Rockford, Washington. Four people have been shot and there is one possible fatality. The suspect has been detained and arrested.

There are reportedly at least five ambulances, a helicopter and numerous other units responding to the school.

All Spokane Public Schools in the area have been locked down as a precaution. The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed at this time.

There are 327 students enrolled at Freeman High School. Local media is reporting multiple injuries, however, there is no official word at this time. Rockford Police have yet to release an official statement.

Freeman High School is located at 14626 South Jackson Road, Rockford, Washington.

Sacred Heart hospital has confirmed that two victims are in stable condition following the shooting.

UPDATE 4:23PM EST: A law enforcement official said that the threat has been eliminated.” Police are now doing a room to room sweep of the entire school while children are being escorted from the building.

UPDATE 4:28PM EST: Two victims have been taken to a Sacred Heart hospital in stable condition.

According to the Spokesman-Review, Annie Baxter, whose two daughters attend the Freeman Middle School across the street, said in a phone call that children were running into buildings when she pulled up to the school area at about 10:15 AM. Classes were about to begin because it’s a “late start” day, Baxter told The Spokesman.

Spokane School’s emergency procedure is as follows:

Safety begins with prevention and having a plan in place. State law requires schools to conduct nine drills a year, including practice for shelter-in-place, lockdown and evacuation. Our Department of Campus Safety coordinates and trains on a regular basis with local law enforcement, fire department, and other emergency response agencies. Every Spokane Public Schools site has security cameras, and all will soon have a secure single point of entry. Many schools also have volunteer safety programs, such as Watch D.O.G.S.
