Hurricane Irma is on the move. The Category 5 storm is currently about 300 miles southeast of Miami, Florida. At the moment, Irma is hanging over Cuba with sustained winds up to 160 mph and is traveling at a speed of 13 mph. But if you’re on this article then you’re probably already asking yourself: when will this monster strike the Sunshine State? At what time will Florida get hit by Irma?

South Florida is expected to be hit severely by Irma. The hurricane is expected to first make contact with the region Sunday morning.

If peak surge coincides with high tide then a number of areas may be flooded with many inches (and feet) of water. Here’s the expected amount of flooding if the high tide coincides with a peak storm surge, which is the rising of sea levels as a result of atmospheric pressure changes and winds relating to a storm.

Southwestern Florida from Captiva to Cape Sable: 8 to 12 feet
Cape Sable to Boca Raton, including the Florida Keys: 5 to 10 feet
Venice to Captiva Island: 5 to 8 feet
Tampa Bay and from the Anclote River to Venice: 3 to 5 feet
Boca Raton to the Flagler/Volusia County Line: 2 to 4 feet
The Anclote River to the Suwannee River: 3 to 6 feet

By 8 A.M. Sunday morning, Hurricane Irma is predicted to hit Florida. Irma will first strike the Florida Keys, and within a few hours hit Miami. The exact time hasn’t been made available. Storms can be quite predictable. The National Weather Service provided a map giving rough estimates of the trajectory of the storm according to predicted time and path.

Irma is expected to hit central Florida by 8 AM Monday morning, which includes Orlando, according to the National Hurricane Service.
