WWE United States Champion Kevin Owens kicks off SmackDown

The new U.S. Champion Kevin Owens makes his way down to the ring. He believes that since he’s a good person, good things happen to him. KO says he’s bringing back the United States Championship Open Challenge, but that will happen next week. The people in Virginia don’t deserve to see a championship match. AJ Styles comes out and demands a title shot for tonight. Owens declines AJ’s request, and then out comes…Y-2-f*cking-J Chris Jericho.

The crowd goes bananas when Jericho’s music hits. “It’s the return of Jericho,” says Y2J. “Welcome back, maaannnnnnn.”

Owens says what Jericho is doing here. Y2J screams “quiet” at him a bunch of times. Jericho has rehabbed from his injuries, and now he’s back to get his U.S. title back! Styles interrupts Y2J and disregards his statements. Jericho thinks Styles is trying to cut in front of him for his U.S. title match, and you know what happens when someone cuts in front of Jericho for a U.S. Championship match? ……………You just made the list!”

Shane O’Mac’s music hits and he stops KO at the entrance ramp. He makes a triple threat match for later tonight. The main event Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens vs. AJ Styles for the WWE United States Championship.


Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Baron Corbin

Both men trade shots. Nakamura gains the early advantage with a flurry of shots, with devastating elbows and kicks. Corbin rolls towards the ring apron. Shinsuke capitalizes, as he runs outside the ring and kicks Corbin in the head. Nakamura charges towards Corbin, but runs right into a huge clothesline. Corbin continues the punishment inside the ring. Corbin goes for the cover, and Nakamura kicks out at 2. Baron tosses Nakamura out of the ring and then rams his body into the barricade. Corbin picks up Nakamura and hits him in the gut with a knee. Corbin rolls back in the ring to break the referee’s 10 count. Corbin grabs Nakamura by the head and throws him into the barrier. Nakamura fights back, but Corbin kills his momentum with a spear into the barrier.

Corbin brings the action back into the ring. He continues the punishment with a hard punch to the head. Corbin claps and taunts the crowd. But Baron is too cocky and let’s Nakamura recover. Shinsuke fights back and locks Baron into a crazy-looking submission hold. Corbin picks up Nakamura in attempt to counter the hold. But Shinsuke remains locked around Corbin’s head. Baron slams Nakamura to the mat and breaks free. Corbin locks Nakamura into a stretching submission.

Shinsuke fights out of the submission, but Corbin quickly crushes his momentum. Baron is picking apart Nakamura piece by piece. He mocks and mimics Nakamura’s signature taunt. Nakamura tries to turn the tide, but ends up eating a Deep Six slam by Baron Corbin. Baron goes for the cover. 1…2…kick out!

Baron looks like he can’t believe Nakamura kicked out. Corbin tries to put away Nakamura with an End of Days. But Shinsuke counters, takes out Nakmaura’s knee and then kicks him in the back of the head. Shinsuke finishes the job with a Kinshasa kick.

Charlotte Flair & Becky Lynch vs. Tamina Snuka & Lana

Lana and Becky square off to start the match. Lynch tries to put Lana in the DisArm Her. Lana tags in Tamina who punishes Becky. Lynch fights back hard, but Snuka takes her down time and time again. Lana gets the tag and she works over Becky. Lana hits a suplex and goes for the pin. 1…2…kick out!

Lana keeps Becky grounded, preventing the tag to Charlotte Flair. Tamina and Lana double-team Lynch. Tamina takes Becky to the corner, but Lynch fights back and hits an enzirguri kick. Charlotte gets the tag and she kicks ass. Tamina hits a superkick on Flair and that only knocks her down to one knee. Lana gets the tag, but eats a big boot from Charlotte. The Queen for the win.

“The Modern Day Maharaja” WWE Champion Jinder Mahal is on The Rise

We see footage from Sunday’s Battleground pay-per-view. Former World Heavyweight Champion The Great Khali interferes by choking Orton through the cage. This allows Mahal to scale the cage to victory.

Mahal’s music hits. He comes out with The Singh Brothers to boast about his win. Jinder speaks in his native language of Punjab, but is interrupted by John Cena!

Jinder thinks Cena is out to devalue his win and talk about the interference of Khali and the Singh Brothers in his matches. But no, Cena wasn’t thinking that at all. John wants to congratulate Mahal. Jinder looks pleased. But there’s one catch…Cena wants a match at SummerSlam. Super Cena wants to become a 16-time World Champion. Cena is hyped, bro.

SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan comes out to poop on Cena’s party. He reminds John that on SmackDown Live, you need to earn your opportunities, even if your name is John Cena. Next week, it will John Cena vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and the winner will face Jinder Mahal for the WWE World Champion at SummerSlam.


Aiden English & Michael Kanellis vs. Sami Zayn & Tye Dillinger

Aiden starts off this segment with a song. Tye begins this match by fighting off English. During the break, English capitalizes off of a Maria Kanellis distraction by kicking Sami Zayn in the head. Mike gets the tag and takes out Zayn with a big boot. Both English and Kanellis take turns stomping on Zayn.

Sami turns the tide and takes out English. Aiden is sent sailing through the ropes. English storms the ring, but Dillinger gets the tag and goes on the attack. Tye hits a back-drop on Aiden. Kanellis gets the tag, but Dillinger knocks him to the ground. Tye sends Michael into the corner and then hits him with a flurry of ring hands as the audience counts along. English turns to mount a comeback, but Dillinger takes him to the mat.

Zayn gets tagged back into the match. He hits a Helluva Kick on English for the win.

The New Day Celebration

The New Day are the new WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions are they’re out to celebrate, bae-beeeee. But they get jumped by The Usos before making their entrance. Jimmy & Jey mop the floor with Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston. Big E fights back like a bolt of lightning, but The Usos didn’t get shocked. They dropped the big man. This is The Usos Penitentiary!


Triple threat match for the WWE United States Championship: Kevin Owens (c) vs. AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho

Styles and Jericho attacks Owens at the start of this match. They toss KO out of the ring and then brawl with one another. Styles and Jericho trade pin-fall attempts. Owens storms back in the ring to kick some serious ass. KO gets rid of Styles and then stares down his arch nemesis/frienemey “Y2J” Chris Jericho. KO blocks both a Codebreaker and a Walls of Jericho. Y2J hits a dropkick and goes for the pin. Owens quickly kicks out, but Styles kicks KO in return.

Highlights of the match include Jericho breaking up a Calf Crusher on KO by performing a Lionsault on both Styles and Owens. Another highlight includes Styles performing a flawless 450 splash on Y2J, who kicks out at the count of 2.

Towards the end of the match, KO tosses Styles out of the ring and returns his attention to Jericho. KO hits Y2J with a superkick, but amazing Jericho is still standing. Next, Owens hits a pop-up powerbomb on Jericho and goes for the pin. 1…2…kick out!

Owens looks stunned. He can’t believe Jericho had it in him to kick out of a pop-up powerbomb. KO ascends the top rope and hits a frog splash on Y2J. Styles runs in, throws Owens out of the ring, and goes for the cover on Jericho.

AJ Styles defeats Chris Jericho & Kevin Owens to become the **NEW** WWE United States Champion

Post-Match: A pissed off Kevin Owens grabs hold of a microphone. He challenges Styles for his newly won championship for next week’s episode of SmackDown.
