Chiu Yi-ying, 46, and Hsu Shu-hua, 41, two MPs in Taiwanese parliament, got into a shocking brawl on live television as tensions during a debate boiled over into violence. The duo exchanged slaps and attempted to strangle one another during a session to discuss the island’s plans for infrastructure reform.
What Happened?
The fight erupted while opposing MPs from the Kuomintang (KMT) party chanted protests against President Tsai Ing-wen’s plan. Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lawmaker Chiu Yi-ying, approached the group of MPs and began arguing.
KMT MP Hsu Shu-hua responded quickly and the two women exchanged blows while President of the Legislative Yuan, Su Chia-chyuan, repeatedly called for calm and order.

“Everyone is watching,” Su can be heard saying.
The KMT protest was brought about by claims the 420 billion TWD reform favored cities and counties loyal to the ruling DPP. As a result of the brawl, the session was adjourned.
Chiu told local media that she was assaulted by Hsu and another female MP and accused the opposition party of “promoting violence.”
Hsu did say that she regretted her behavior but said she would not offer a personal apology to Chiu because she “didn’t respect her in any way.”
