On July 1, 2017, Nevada joined the sticky green liberation movement and voted to legalize the recreational use of cannabis. They’ve finally cut the tethers of marijuana prohibition and sales for the product have been astronomically. In one week alone, 47 dispensaries have ranked in a combined $3 million in sales, which equates to $1 million in tax revenue going back to the state. Lines wrap around buildings, as people wait to enter the dispensary and take their pick from the dankest plants around.

The dispensaries near Las Vegas were flowing with consumers looking to sink into that green goodness…

Sales have been so phenomenal that now they’re reports that dispensaries are running out of weed. There has been more customers than previously projected, and city officials and lawmakers and stepping to cut down the red regulatory tape and allow the market to meet its demand.

Governor Brian Sandoval has backed up a “statement of emergency” which will permit a “fast track approval process” for distributors. It’s 2017, and politicians are making “state of emergencies” to make sure people get the pot they want. This is the type of future I’m talkin’ about…

“Based on reports of adult-use marijuana sales already far exceeding the industry’s expectations at the state’s 47 licensed retail marijuana stores, and the reality that many stores are running out of inventory, the Department must address the lack of distributors immediately,” department spokeswoman Stephanie Klapstein wrote in an email. “Some establishments report the need for delivery within the next several days.”

This Thursday, the Nevada Tax Commission will vote whether they want to cut away those regulations that is stopping the sticky green market from running smoothly. If they vote in favor of the consumer, more folks will take more legal tokes.

“The business owners in this industry have invested hundreds of millions of dollars to build facilities across the state.” Klapstein said. “They have hired and trained thousands of additional employees to meet the demands of the market. Unless the issue with distributor licensing is resolved quickly, the inability to deliver product to retail stores will result in many of these people losing their jobs and will bring this nascent market to a grinding halt. A halt in this market will lead to a hole in the state’s school budget.”

Marijuana is booming in Nevada. The state estimated that the cannabis revenue tax would earn the state $60 million over the span of two years. Well, try $1 million in one week. Politicians need to read up on their green, ya dig?
