Lonzo Ball is more likely than ever to to get drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday night after the team just traded away starting point guard, D’Angelo Russel, to the Brooklyn Nets.
Lonzo, and his family, are taking an unusual route when it comes to endorsement deals, or lack there of, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t in store to make his fair share of money. Ball, a 6’6″ point guard out of UCLA, averaged 14.6 ppg, rpg, 7.6 apg, 1.8 spg, and 0.8 bpg in his one season with the Bruins.
It’s been duly noted that Lonzo has yet to sign any endorsement deals and that is in large part because of his father Lavar. When the Ball’s met with the top three shoe brands, Nike, Under Armour, and Adidas, they didn’t leave those meetings with any deals. Lavar was looking for one of the conglomerates to co-partner with him for his Big Ballers Brand, and none were interested in that idea.
The Ball’s have moved on and went about creating and selling Lonzo’s first shoe the ZO2’s. Although its unclear how much they’ve sold in total, reports say that the shoes made $150,000 on the first day alone.
The Lakers for the second straight year will have the second pick in the draft and Lonzo will likely sign a deal that is similar to Brandon Ingram’s.
NBA rookie contracts are like the NFL where the contracts are scaled, which means you get paid based off your draft position.
Using the NBA’s rookie pay scale, we can see that the #2 overall pick makes just under $4.5 million in their first year. The second year Ball will be scheduled to make about $200,000 more than his first season and in year three it’ll be $4,797,600. The fourth and fifth years of the contracts are options but if Lonzo is as good as Lavar is saying he’ll be, then he’ll likely have signed a much more lucrative contract by then.
The Ball’s haven’t clearly said how much the BBB brand has made but Lavar believes his business is worth north of $1 Billion. Since this price range is vague, we’ll just use the number from is likely rookie contract; which should be around just under $14 million.
Lonzo Ball Net Worth 2017: How Much Is Ball Worth As Of Right Now?
Los Angeles Laker Lonzo Ball is worth approximately $14 million.
2015-2016
During the 2015-16 season, Ball’s senior year at Chino Hills High School in Chino Hills, California, he averaged 23.9 ppg, 11.3 rpg, and 11.5 apg, was awarded multiple high school player of the year honors and was the captain of a team that undefeated and won the National Championship.
Lonzo was a top recruit in the 2016 class and signed with the UCLA Bruins. He played his first collegiate game on November 11, 2016 against the Pacific Tigers and Lonzo filled the stat sheet with 19 points, 11 assists, 8 rebounds and 2 steals.
2017-present
At season’s end, Ball was named a unanimous first-team All American, awarded the Wayman Tisdale Award by the USBWA as the top freshman in the nation, and was the only freshman to be a finalist for the Naismith College player of the Year, Oscar Robertson Trophy, and the Wooden Award.
Also Lonzo was voted Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and named first-team All-Pac-12. Not too shabby for a college freshman.
On June 22, Ball was drafted #2 overall in the 2017 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers.
Barring any major injures, Lonzo should start his rookie career in late October.
