Markelle Fultz, selected #1 overall in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, just made himself a boatload of money. And it’s only the beginning for the future star.
Futlz, a 6′ 4″ point guard out of the University of Washington, averaged 23.3 points, 5.9 assists, 5.7 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks per game per game during his one season with the Huskies.
A week before being drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers, Fultz announced that he had signed an endorsement deal with Nike. Now, while the exact details of Fultz’s Nike contract were not available, in all likelihood his deal is similar to the one that Ben Simmons–last year’s #1 overall pick–received.
Before he was drafted, Ben Simmons, who was also a #1 overall pick with the Philadelphia 76ers, signed a 5-year, $20 million guaranteed contract. Given how alike the circumstances are between Fultz and Simmons, it’s reasonable to assume Nike gave Fultz a similar deal.
Furthermore, just like the NFL, NBA rookie contracts are scaled, meaning you are paid based on where you are drafted.
Based on the NBA’s rookie pay scale, a #1 overall drafted player makes just shy of $5 million in their first year. In year two, Fultz is scheduled to make just over $5 million, and in year three, $5,362,100. The fourth and fifth years of the contract are options, but if Fultz pans out, he will most likely sign an entirely new contract before then.
So, by combining Fultz’s first-year salary along with the assumption that his Nike deal is similar to Simmons’, we can estimate his net worth to be about $25-30 million.

2014-2016
During the 2014-2015 season, Fultz’s junior year at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, he averaged 16.5 points per game, 7.9 rebounds per game, and 4.3 assists per game, and won the conference player of the year award.
During his senior season, Fultz averaged 19.1 points per game and 8.8 rebounds per game while leading DeMatha to the WCAC championship game. Fultz was a five-star recruit and was regarded as one of the top players in the 2016 class.
Fultz made his first appearance for the University of Washington Huskies on November 3, 2016 in n game against Western Washington. Fultz, who came off the bench, scored 14 points to go with seven rebounds, five assists, three turnovers, and one blocked shot.
2017-present
At the end of the season, Fultz was named to the All-Pac-12 first team and was also named an All-American third team and declared for the 2017 NBA draft.
On June 16, Fultz signed an endorsement deal with Nike Basketball.
On June 22, Fultz was drafted #1 overall in the 2017 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers.
On October 20, 2017, barring injury, Fultz will presumably make his NBA debut.
