Indy 500 2017: Results, Updates & Must-See Highlights

The 101st Indianapolis 500 has come to a close. We saw a wicked crash and a very close contest on the final lap. Helio Castroneves was in the lead with six laps to go, but Takuma Sato caught and pushed the Brazilian-born driver out of first place. Sato and Helio traded places in the next top laps, but the Japanese-born driver was way too resilient.

Takuma Sato has won the 2017 edition of the Indy 500. He pushed back Helio Castroneves and Ed Jones during the last lap. This is his second overall career win on the IndyCar circuit, the last one being 2013 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. Sato is once again champion.

What about car wrecks?

Much earlier in the day, Pole-sitter Scott Dixon was taken out when Jay Howard swerved into his direction. There is a video of the accident which was pretty insane. Luckily, the wreck wasn’t fatal.

Oriol Servia, James Hinchcliffe, James Davidson and Will Power were also taken out of the race via a car wreck. Each driver crashed with only 17 laps to go. Servia and Davidson were both leading in the race before the crash. According to reports, Servia bumped into Davidson from behind, causing both cars to skid into the wall. Hichcliffe and Power were also taken out of the race as they fell in the carnage.

Third Honda drivers blew their engines in the race. Fans cheered as the third driver Two-time Formula One champion Fernando Alonso climbed out of his vehicle.
