The Internet Took A Collective Steamer On The New ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Poster

I find it odd that Marvel & Sony feel they need to piggyback on Iron Man’s success in order to promote the latest Spidey flick, Spider-Man: Homecoming. While X-Men may have been the first in the comic book movie revolution, 2002’s Spiderman was the one that changed it all.

An entire generation of kids probably began taking an interest in comic book’s after Spiderman, myself included. Behind Batman and Wolverine, I’d probably put Spiderman as my third favorite superhero. Certainly in my top 5. And it was all because of those early 2000’s bangers.

Sure, the 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and it’s sequel weren’t that great, but still grossed a bajillion dollars, and it was still Spiderman. The marketing was built it.

Yet, despite this, Marvel’s new poster for Homecoming strangely seems to feature Iron Man more prominently than Spiderman.

So why does Marvel Studios, who have a proven track record of introducing superheroes, feel the need to focus on Tony Stark’s Iron Man in their marketing? I’m not sure. Are they worried the new generation doesn’t recognize Spiderman as well as they do Iron Man? I doubt it. It also doesn’t help that the poster looks like it was made on Microsoft Paint.

However, luckily, the internet is the internet and was not about to let Marvel slide.
