It’s Thursday, May 25. To all of the winos and alcoholics out there, today is better known as National Wine Day. The annual holiday even has a sister holiday in February, National Drink Wine Day (as if we weren’t going to drink on both).
Wine, as I hope you know, is an alcoholic beverage that fancy people consume while pretending to know what they’re doing when they swirl it around their glass and smell it. Fun fact: wine is made from fermented grapes or other fruits. During the fermentation processes, yeast consumes the sugars in the grapes converting it into alcohol. Different grapes produce different wines. Winemakers will combine different wines to create more complex flavors. Wines made from fruit or honey are often named according to the variety of fruit used.
So, how can you observe this special holiday? Well, obviously you can drink wine. That’s about as straightforward as it gets. On top of that, you can use the #NationalWineDay to post on social media and show everyone just how good at drinking wine you truly are.
We’re not entirely sure where National Wine Day originated from, but we’re sure glad it’s popped up into existence. Then again, it’s not like we needed another excuse to pour ourselves several glasses of the good stuff.
