Elton John’s ‘Tiny Dancer’ is just one of those songs. You know what songs I’m talking about: ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen, ‘Piano Man’ by Billy Joel, ‘Born To Run’ by Bruce Springsteen — these are songs that, whenever they come on, anyone who’s worth a damn can’t help but belt out the words.
Back in 1971, when ‘Tiny Dancer’ was first released, ‘Tiny Dancer’, along with other Elton John singles, never got the music videos they deserved. Now, close to half a century later, John’s smash hits are getting fully realized music videos.
The Cut, supported by YouTube, ran a contest inviting filmmakers to create the first official music videos for three of Elton John’s most famous songs: ‘Tiny Dancer’, ‘Rocket Man’, and ‘Benny and the Jets’. According to Uproxx, the competition was started in part to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of John’s partnership with songwriter Bernie Taupin.

It asked creators to make an animated “Rocket Man” video, a live-action “Tiny Dancer” video and a choreographed dance routine for “Benny And The Jets.” Filmmaker Max Weiland got the top slot (and $10,000 toward a future project) with his car-centric clip.
“I’ve been moved and amazed by these re-imaginings of our songs and pretty humbled by the process overall,” John said in a statement about the contest. “The future of creativity is clearly collaborative, fusing art and technology and it’s been fantastic to open up our work to the next generation of creative talent and to share that process with the world.”
For the ‘Tiny Dancer’ video, Max Weiland filmed a video for that reflects on life in Los Angeles from a dozen different people, all unfolding behind the wheel of their cars.
And its pretty damn perfect.
And if you’re vibing with this, here’s the videos for ‘Rocket Man’ and ‘Bennie and the Jets’:
