You know who I’d LOVE to meet?
No, not Betsy DeVos. Not even Donald Trump.
No, I want to meet the guy who works for the famously historically black Bethune-Cookman University who thought it would be a good idea to bring in Betsy DeVos, one of the most disliked politicians in America, for this year’s commencement speech.
“Guys, I think we should bring in Betsy DeVos. Look, I know the country is a little upset right now with Trump and his administration. And I know that we’re a historically black college, but let’s be better than that! The students will welcome her!”
Just stupidity all around — stupid of the school in invite her, stupid of her to show up. What the hell did they think would happen? That all of those young, black, students are suddenly going to welcome Betsy DeVos, who literally looks like the Google Image of ‘rich white woman,’ as their commencement speaker? Not gonna happen.
In fact, the boos were so loud, so visceral that the school’s president, Edison O. Jackson, had to pause the ceremony about one minute into Ms. DeVos’ address to tell the crowd of students, “If this behavior continues, your degrees will be mailed to you,” which is another sign of incompetence, because if a school president should know anything about commencement, he should know that the students are trying to get the hell out of there as soon as possible. The mailing of their diplomas would probably be welcomed with open arms.
Just a shit show all around… except for us watching at home. Definitely worth it for us.
