Darta Lee, Zarrian Holcombe, and Howard Watkins are members of the University of Illinois football team, and all three of these young men are in major trouble. Early Wednesday morning, it’s alleged that the trio robbed a student at the Bromley Hall dormitory. Lee and Holcombe both live at Bromley Hall, so I guess they thought it would be an easy score.
But according to TMZ, nothing was easy about this caper. Here are the ridiculous details on how everything went down.
Cops say the 3 men were wearing masks and entered an apartment in an effort to rob the person inside. At least one of the men was brandishing what appeared to be a gun.
The problem, cops say the alleged victim recognized the voice of one of the masked men — blowing their cover. At that point, cops say one of the alleged robbers removed his mask and tried to play the whole thing off as a joke.
Oh, and cops say they now believe the gun used in the incident was a fake firearm. Despite the comedy of errors, the three men allegedly got money from the victim and booked it. The victim went to cops and the suspects were easily tracked down and arrested.
Jesus, that was sloppy. Let’s hope these guys are much better at football than they are at committing robberies. That sounded worse than Raymond trying to knock off a convenience store in White Men Can’t Jump.
Both Lee and Holcombe saw action last year for the Illini as true freshman. Lee played offensive line, while Holcombe played wide receiver. Watkins hasn’t got onto the field for Illinois yet, as the freshman offensive lineman enrolled in the school in January.
All three of these men might see their collegiate football careers come to an abrupt end now. They are being charged with armed robbery and home invasion, which are very serious offenses.
