Marvel and Netflix, continuing their trend of dominating the movie and television landscape, just dropped the first trailer for The Defenders and of course, it looks f*cking fantastic.
Bringing together New York City’s ‘ground level’ superheroes, The Defenders are essentially The Avengers… if they were real people with real lives and not walking mascots like Captain America.
The ‘limited series’ (which is crazy, because we all know there will be more seasons) stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist, all reprising their roles from their individual Netflix series. While Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage were all positively reviewed, Iron Fist, the most recent of Netflix’s and Marvel’s collaboration, was almost universally jeered, leaving a bad taste in the mouths of some fans.
However, this trailer should wash away all those bitter feelings because this show is clearly going to kick some ass. Bringing together the best elements of the four individual shows, The Defenders promises to deliver a superhero experience unlike one we’ve ever seen.
Or at the very least, it won’t end with Iron Man and Captain American stopping an alien race from opening a hole in the sky.
Here is the first official trailer for Marvel’s The Defenders:
“Marvel’s The Defenders follows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.”
The Defenders will be released on Netflix on August 18, 2017.
