Former Wisconsin teacher April Novak, 32, has been convicted of having sex with a 16-year-old student. On Thursday, she was sentenced to two years in prison.

What Happened?

In April, Novak pleaded no contest to three of the 12 felony counts of sexual assault of a student by school staff filed in December 2015. On top of the prison term, Novak is also required to serve three years of supervised release. She is not permitted to work in any school setting, including as a volunteer at her own children’s schools, and must register as a sex offender.

Novak is said to have admitted to police that she’d had intercourse and oral sex more than a dozen times in her classroom with the student, now 17. She also admitted that although she knew the relationship was wrong, the two had mutual “very strong feelings for each other,” according to the Milwaukee Wisconsin Journal Sentinel.

The student had reportedly promised not to tell anyone about their relationship, but in December 2015 another teacher saw the two embracing and possibly kissing inside her classroom and made a report. Novak’s husband filed for divorce the day before she appeared in court on December 22, 2015.

Novak was arrested again earlier this month and charged with disorderly conduct for showing up at her ex-husband’s house and screaming at him and his girlfriend.

Novak was a reading interventionist and literacy coach at Menomonee Falls High School in Menomonee Falls. She worked for the school since August 2013 and had previously been employed by the Brown Deer School District.

Her attorney, Michael Hart, said Novak was “initially was the prey not the hunter,” drawn at first to the boy’s attention and praise, not from a physical attraction. The student’s grandmother disputed this claim, saying that Novak bought him gifts including shoes and expected sex in return.

“I feel for her children, but my grandson suffered, too.”

Novak has two sons under age five, one with special needs.

This article was originally going to be something else entirely.

Originally, this article was going to be about the ISIS fighters who are attempting to return to European society. Unsurprisingly, they’re having difficulty finding jobs.

And while I was preparing my article, I went over to Getty find a lead image (the photo that appears at the top of articles.) However, what I found changed my mind entirely.

What I found was a plethora of recently uploaded images of Iraqi forces driving out the remaining members of ISIS from Mosul. There are thousands of adjectives to describe these pictures, yet I’m struggling to find one.

Breath-taking. Perspective-changing. Haunting. Inspiring. All the above and then some.

So this weekend, when you’re cross-eyed cause you just shot-gunned you’re 12th beer, take a second to appreciate how lucky you are.

Authorities responded to reports of a plane down on the 405 Freeway Friday morning in Orange County.

The crash occurred on the freeway near the MacArthur Boulevard exit ramp near John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana around 9:30 A.M. local time.

What Happened?

Details are scarce but it appears that a small plane crash landed on the 405 freeway near John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, California.

The plane crashed on the southbound freeway near the MacArthur Boulevard exit. The Cessna 310 aircraft landed on the freeway short of the runway at 9:35 a.m, the Santa Ana airport tweeted.  The airfield is closed to arrivals, but departures are not affected.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s traffic log, two people were taken out of the plane. Their condition is unknown at this time.

The 405 freeway in Orange County is shut down in both directions.

“All we see is smoke,” Officer Latos Quinn said. Two people were on board the twin-engine Cessna 310 when it crashed “under unknown circumstances,” according to Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the FAA. Their condition was not immediately known.

South American referees have a long history of getting their asses handed to them.

It isn’t their fault — they’re just trying to do their job — it’s just that South American soccer leagues aren’t necessarily the most lawful places on Earth.

Usually, you’ll see a ref get hit with a combo or a kick and either continue to ref or just leave entirely.

But not this time. No, this time the ref was fighting back, once and for all.

Referee Camilo Eustáquio de Souza, was filmed grabbing the weapon from his bag along with a pair of handcuffs last Sunday, as an angry player, named as Marcos Lopes Vieira, disputed the decision and allegedly punched him in the face.

Mercifully Mr de Souza’s extraordinary reaction was too late because Mr Vieira escaped as soon as he saw the ref wasn’t returning with a red card.

The player fled the ground, jumping the Starling Soares Stadium fence in Passos, south east Brazil, to hide in the dressing room. Footage captures Mr de Souza, a police officer, returning to the bench and collecting his stuff as bewildered players look on, giving him a wide berth.

When I used to play, I used to talk A LOT of shit to the referees, so remind me never to join a Brazilian soccer league.

Dr. Henry Bello, 45, is identified as the shooter at Lebanon Hospital in the Bronx in New York. Witnesses saw the suspect dressed in a doctor’s coat, while he fired upon other doctors with an M-16 rifle. Three doctors have been shot in the melee.

Fox 5 New York originally confirmed the name of the shooting suspect.

Police responded to a call about a gunman (in a doctor’s coat) shooting down multiple doctors with a rifle. The New York Post reports that the 35-year-old suspect was “known” by members of the hospital staff.

When and Where Did the Shooting Transpire?

This mass shooting occurred at around 3 p.m. on the east coast at 173rd Street and Grand Concourse in the Mt. Eden section of the Bronx hospital.

How Many People Were Shot?

According to reports, six people have been injured in the shooting, including three doctors (who were shot). The suspect wore all black underneath his doctor’s coat.  The shooter “is a 35-year-old ex-employee using an M-16 type rifle,” reported The New York Daily News.

The shooting spanned multiple floors of Lebanon Hospital. The suspect is believed to be a family physician who worked at the hospital.

Hospital Staff (Doctors & Nurses) Feared For Their Lives

According to CBS, reports from the scene of the crime paint a picture of a hospital under siege. Doctors and nurses reportedly barricaded themselves in rooms as gun shots rang out through the hospital.

According to CNN, the suspect committed suicide. An ID badge was found on the alleged shooter, which identified him as employee Henry Bello. “The body of a woman who was shot was found near the body of the shooting suspect,” CNN reported.

A police spokesman confirmed on Twitter that “One shooter is deceased at the hospital.”

Police Followed A Trail of Blood

According to The New York Daily News, police followed a trail of blood to locate the body of the shooter.

NYPD tweeted, “Due to reports of a shooting incident at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, avoid the area of 1650 Grand Concourse.”

Dr. Henry Bello’s Criminal History

Henry Bello was busted back in August 28, 2004, for sex abuse and unlawful imprisonment in Manhattan. A 23-year-old woman alleged that Bello groped her crotch, held her arms, lifted her up and carried her off, saying, “You’re coming with me.” The outcome of this case remains unclear.

Bello was arrested again in Manhattan, on October 9, 2009. The reason for the arrest is not publicly known. Records for that case have been sealed.

Police report that 28 people were injured during a shooting at a Little Rock Nightclub, while 25 people are shot (there was three unrelated injuries). The shooting occurred at about 2:30 A.M. EST, early Saturday morning. Authorities claim that the incident erupted over a dispute at the club, and it wasn’t terror-related.

“We do NOT believe this incident was an active shooter or terror related incident. It appears to have been a dispute at a concert,” the city police posted on its Twitter account.

How are the victims holding up?

Authorities say that the 28 people injured in the shooting will likely survive.

Little Rock’s mayor Mark Stodola says that he’s “heart is broken” over the ordeal. The mayor wrote on his Facebook page that, “We are committed to doing everything possible to bring safety to our city. We need everyone to help.”

Stodola promises that more information will be released this afternoon. So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

“One is too many. Seventeen is very alarming and certainly disturbing,” Little Rock Police Chief Kenton Buckner told reporters. The police chief said there was “some sort of dispute broke out between people inside” the club and that there are “probably multiple shooting suspects.”

Where did the shooting take place?

Shots rang out at the Power Ultra Lounge on 220 W. 6th St, Little Rock, Arkansas. As a result, police have cordoned off the block, while crime scene technicians attempt to gather evidence inside and outside the club.

A video popped on Facebook capturing the ordeal at this Little Rock nightclub. The shooting occurred during a musical performance or a “mini-concert” at the club.  Finese 2Tymes, a performer from Memphis, Tennessee, was rapping while gunfire broke out. In just 11 seconds, 25 shots were fired.

The victim of the crash is 78-year-old Jerome Barson, who died in the hospital almost two weeks after the crash. The lawsuit states that Barson suffered “severed main arteries, massive internal bleeding, a fractured spine, and massive internal organ damage.”

Barson passed away on his wife’s birthday. Linda Barson turned 68-years-old when her husband passed away in the ICU. The lawsuit states that Linda received a cracked sternum and shattered right arm. Linda also received a broken her right wrist, hand and several fingers. She was the driver of the vehicle that crashed into Williams.

But according to authorities, “(Williams) is at fault for violating the right of way of (the Barsons),” the report said. There is no mention in the report of Williams being cited.”

On the police report, Linda reports driving west in the right lane, and while approaching an intersection, she slowed down and halted for a traffic light. When that light turned green, Baron drove her 2016 Hyundai Accent into the intersection. Then outta nowhere, Williams’ 2010 Toyota Sequoia cut in front of Barson’s vehicle.

Barson told police that she couldn’t avoid the crash.

Williams made a statement for the police regarding the now-fatal crash. According to the report, Williams told authorities that she stopped at the center of the intersection as a result of other traffic. Williams claims to have not seen Barson’s car when she crossed that intersection. According to that same report, Williams’ vehicle was driving at a speed of about 5 mph.

Linda Barson’s attorney, Michael Steinger, released a statement regarding the crash.

“Mrs. Barson is suffering intense grief and doesn’t know how she will go on,” said Steinger. “Her husband of 35 years was struck by Venus Williams, who was at fault in a car accident, which ultimately resulted in Mr. Barson being hospitalized 14 days with multiple surgeries which resulted in his death.”

On Friday evening, Venus Williams took to Facebook to express empathy for the Barsons. “I am devastated and heartbroken by this accident. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Jerome Barson and I continue to keep them in my thoughts and prayers.”

Williams’ attorney Malcolm Cunningham told reporters at CNN that, “Ms. Williams entered the intersection on a green light. The police report estimates that Ms. Williams was traveling at 5 mph when Mrs. Barson crashed into her. Authorities did not issue Ms. Williams with any citations or traffic violations. This is an unfortunate accident and Venus expresses her deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one.”

Meanwhile, Venus Williams trains in London for Wimbledon, an event she’s won on five occasions. She’s a seven-time Grand Slam champion and might just be in a heap of legal trouble.
