Jim Boeheim has been manning the sidelines as the head coach of the Syracuse Orange for 41 seasons. Boeheim, a former player with the Orange, began his head coaching career in 1976. During his tenure, Boeheim accomplished many feats in central New York. He won his only NCAA Championship in 2003 and led the Orange to five Final Four appearances. In fact, Boeheim has led the Orange to 32 NCAA Tournament seasons.
Over the years, the Hall of Fame head coach has come under scrutiny due to NCAA sanctions. Boeheim was suspended for nine games during the 2015-2016 season. He was also ordered to vacate 101 victories. Therefore, Boeheim officially has 902 career wins as the 2017 ACC Tournament approaches. Here is a look at how much Boeheim is worth in 2017.

The start of Coach Boeheim’s career didn’t seem to be a groundbreaking event. He was a young coach just starting out in the business. The Big East wasn’t even a viable option at the time. Therefore, Boeheim only made a few thousand dollars in the beginning of his career. By 1987, the Orange were part of the most powerful basketball conference. More importantly, coaches started earning more money as the sneaker explosion commenced. Boeheim made his first Final Four appearance during the ’87 season. They lost on a last second Keith Smart jump shot in the title game. Boeheim had an opportunity to accept a position with the Ohio State Buckeyes for more money, but he decided to remain in Syracuse.
1988 – 1999

As a result of their success in the early ’80s, the Orange became a power program in the modern era. Their program branding began to take off as the television money increased. The Orange found their second Final Four season during the 1996 season. Once again, they lost in the championship game to the Kentucky Wildcats. Despite the loss, Boeheim’s stature continued to grow.

Coach Boeheim earned slightly more than $1 million per season at the turn of the century. During this five-year run, Boeheim led the Orange to four NCAA Tournament appearances and one Big East Championship. He also earned his lone national title in 2003.

Even when college coaching salaries started to increase rapidly, Boeheim’s structure remained intact. Furthermore, there were rumors about Boeheim’s impending retirement. He still had not reached $2 million in salary. Yet, Boeheim remained the highest paid employee at Syracuse University. The Orange played their final Big East season in 2013. They also finished their Big East tenure with a Final Four run.

In 2016, Boeheim was the 20th highest paid coach in the NCAA Tournament. He made $2.14 million last season. Despite struggling throughout the year, the Orange salvaged the season by making a run during March Madness. The Orange entered the tournament as the No. 10 seed and won four games, making the improbable Final Four run.
Boeheim also earns between $10,000-$20,000 per speaking engagement. He performs a number of private events during the summer. Additionally, Coach Boeheim has been a member of the United States Men’s National Basketball team since 2006.
There’s a chance that Boeheim could be coaching his last season, though he has not made a decision about his future yet. If he does coach in 2017, Boeheim’s salary is set to be less than $2.5 million. However, Boeheim has an opportunity to make more money in new ventures, including television.
