Top 10 Best Incoming Freshmen In College Basketball

Freshmen In College Basketball

In the era of the one and done, college basketball has become a game that is dominated by freshman each season who later become the top picks in the ensuing NBA draft. It seems that every year the freshman just keep getting better causing the one-and-done rule to seem extra. While these top players will make their name in the NBA, very few, have dominated the college game like the likes of an Anthony Davis or a Karl-Anthony Towns, where their teams were also the top in the country. Here’s a look at 10 guys that have a shot to make the same kind of noise the Wildcats’ alum had.

10. Nazreon Reid, PF/C, LSU, 6’10, 240lbs

Instagram Photo

Naz Reid is a Julius Randle clone, except further along than Randle was at this point. At 6’10, 240, Reid plays with a lot of power yet he thrives as a playmaker and someone who can grab a rebound and run the break. His passing instincts and vision are incredible and will make him a top-rated prospect during the 2019 NBA draft. With an improving jump-shot, Reid has a chance to make a run at the Wooden-award as a freshman. He is joining an imposing LSU team that was able to bring in three five-star recruits giving him the same chance to make a title run like the Jahlil Okafor-led Duke Blue Devils or the Anthony Davis-led Kentucky Wildcats. The only knock on him is that his motor isn’t always there and maturity issues cause him to get lost in some games (this was not the case with Randle). Assuming he can mature and learn how to not disappear, the skies the limit. He is that good, and putting him tenth here may end up being nine spots too high.

9. Moses Brown, C, UCLA, 7’1, 241lbs

Instagram Photo

If the 2018 NBA draft told us anything, it is certain that the center is not dead and very much alive. Five of the first seven picks were either power forwards or centers in a loaded draft class. This proves the theory that the Big Man is dead as a fallacy. At 7’1, Brown is a true center who thrives in the paint on both ends of the floor. He also has extremely quick feet for a man his size making his spin moves and drop steps on the block extremely difficult to guard. If he gets a clean catch on the post, which he usually does thanks to his ultra-soft hands, he is going to warrant a double team quite often. Fortunately for Moses, this is nothing new to him and he’s a great passer out of the post and also has a good enough handle to bail him out of bad situations. Defensively, he has great shot-blocking instincts uses that 7’4 wingspan to be able to help on all drivers. He also uses that wingspan to gobble rebounds on both ends of the floor which is another one of his elite strengths. His weakness is very clear, shooting. His mechanics seem broke and they may not be fixed, but if he can find a way to improve even more from six feet and in, he can have a Greg Oden type effect.

8. Louis King, SF/PF, Oregon, 6’7, 204lbs

Instagram Photo

Louis King is the type of prospect that has NBA scouts drooling. At 6’7 with a 7’0 wingspan, King will be able to thrive as a big strong wing, or an athletic stretch four. These traits will translate to the NBA very smoothly and he is a perfect fit for today’s smaller game. With a deadly stroke from behind the arc along with a silky-smooth midrange pull-up jumper, King comes in the mold of a Harrison Barnes. He is certainly athletic, however, like Barnes, he’d rather be smooth than explosive. This is not a downside in any way. Have you seen Jayson Tatum? His only glaring weakness right now is he is not someone who’s going to break you down on offense and he’s going to need to get stronger to play combo forward role. With that said, he is oozing with NBA potential, and he and fellow Oregon recruit Bol Bol to have a serious chance to lead Oregon back to the final four. If that happens, don’t be surprised when they are both top five picks.

7. Jaylen Smith, PF, Maryland, 6’9, 195lbs

Instagram Photo

At 6’9, with a 7’1 wingspan, Smith was born into a perfect NBA body. Smith’s rare combination of athleticism, size, and natural feel will also have NBA scouts drooling. Although 195 seems small, Smith has extremely broad shoulders and the rest of his body will fill out after going through the college weight training program. Offensively he’s a versatile big man who rolls and can catch a lob or pop out and drain a three; the perfect player for the modern NBA. Smith has learned to not shy away from contact on the offensive end which has expanded his game to new heights. Defensively, he is going to need to prove that he can guard smaller more athletic fours and also bruising centers. If he can add these traits along with some strength, he will certainly be a lottery pick and bright future in the NBA.

6. Romeo Langford, SG/SF, Indiana, 6’6, 195lbs

Instagram Photo

Langford is one of the most gifted scorers of the 2018 class and is going to make a name for himself with the Hoosiers. With good size including a 6’10 wingspan, Langford thrives in all phases of scoring. He will break you down and attack the basket. He will break you down and pull-up in your phase and he is also a really intelligent cutter who finds a million different ways to get buckets in the paint. He also thrives off of contact and is always looking for ways to get himself to the line using an array of jab-steps similar to the once great Carmelo Anthony. His shooting stroke is far from broke, but his three-point shot has remained highly inconsistent. If he can figure out this aspect of his game, he will be a lock for the top five in the NBA draft, and he will also have a chance to lead the NCAA in scoring as a freshman. Defensively, he has the size to guard bigger wings and agility to move laterally with quicker wings but he is going need to fully commit on that end if he wants to be that top five pick.

5. Nassir Little, SF, North Carolina, 6’7, 215

Instagram Photo

Another combo forward, Nassir Little is probably the most athletic player in the 2018 class. He’s got a great size and that 7’1 wingspan that gives him versatility on both ends of the floor. His shooting has made great strides and he’s lethal when in rythm off the dribble as well as off the catch in both the mid-range and behind the arc. His shooting is his secondary trait, however, as he loves and thrives off of toughness and physicality. Defensively, he’s got the ability to guard wings and smaller fours which will be an important trait when he enters the NBA. In college expect him to play more on the wing as coach Roy Williams loves to play big and attack the glass. His handle still needs some work, and he could add more consistency to his jumper. If he does both of those things, skies the limit as he is as gifted as an athlete as they come.

4. Bol Bol, C, Oregon, 7’2, 220lbs

Instagram Photo

The other half of the elite Oregon recruiting class, Bol Bol has all the tools and even the charisma to be the next Joel Embiid. His 7’8 wingspan is going to be a force in college and the NBA, not to mention he can run like a wing. Offensively, his greatest strength is his three ball, other than catching Capela like lobs. During his time in EYBL, he shot a whopping 43 percent from three and 82 percent from the free throw line, where he gets often. He is a force of nature and will look unguardable at the collegiate level. He’s a solid passer but he is going to need to improve a lot in this area because he might see the most double teams in all of college basketball. Defensively, he guards the rim with ease and will only need to work on his IQ on this side. Three blocks a game should come rather easily to him. The only weakness he possesses and his biggest difference from Embiid is that he is looking to avoid contact rather than enforcing it. If he can learn to embrace contact and find a consistent motor, he can be the number pick of the 2019 NBA draft and a perennial all-star at the NBA level for years to come.

3. Cam Reddish, SF, Duke, 6’7, 203lbs

Instagram Photo

The big-three idea has become very popular in the NBA. This year, it will be making an appearance in college basketball as the top three recruits listed on ESPN’s Top 100 recruits will all be attending Duke. At 6’7, weighing over 200lbs plus a 7’1 wingspan, Reddish is gifted with an incredible basketball body. Reddish doesn’t just have the body, there is almost nothing he can’t do on a basketball court. He has elite guard skills with an elite handle, and ability to make plays in the open floor along with using on-ball screens. He’s a talented cutter who can also get open with ease reading off-ball screens. Defensively, his body-type allows him to cover one through four with great versatility. This guy was also built for the NBA, but he’s going to be so good that he will dominate at the college level as well. While his handle is unbelievable for his size, he has to learn to not over dribble which should be easy at Duke considering they are loaded with stars everywhere you look. His versatility is undeniable and with the ability to create his own shot on one end and lock down on four different positions on the other side will make him a top pick in the 2019 NBA draft.

2. RJ Barrett, SF, Duke, 6’7, 200lbs

Instagram Photo

The second of the three-headed monster that Duke is bringing in this year, RJ Barrett has all the makings of a star. With great size and elite athleticism, Barrett gets buckets driving the lane with ease. He will go over you or around you and finish in a way that looks almost impossible, and he does it with such ease. He also has incredible body control allowing him to use an array of impressive floaters if the lane is clogged. In transition, he plays the way an NBA all-star wing plays and simply can’t be stopped when he is coming at you full speed thanks to his impressive handle and instincts. Like Reddish, Barret has an advanced IQ and knows how to move off the ball extremely effectively. This results in either open space for him, and wide open shot for someone else as the defensive attention will always be dialed in on him. Defensively, he uses his athleticism to shut down anyone on the ball. He also has great instincts on this side of the ball as well and does a terrific job of reading passing lanes and turning steals into a one-man fast-break. His motor is certainly there and there just aren’t a lot of things he can not do on the hardwood. His shooting is fine, but if he can develop fine into great, you’re looking a top 10 NBA player for years to come and the likely number one overall pick next year.

1. Zion Williamson, PF, Duke, 6’6, 272lbs

Instagram Photo

Williamson is his a one-of-a-kind type of talent that plays the game with such force and explosive athleticism that the college game has never seen. While at a unique size of 6’6 but weighing 272, Williamson attacks the basket like a truck. Except he also has the most explosive vertical of the 2018 class, making him an and-one machine. He is also a great rebounder with an impressive handle for someone that size and is a one-man fast break every single time he gets a rebound. Something we have not seen since Lebron James’ St. Vincent-St. Mary’s days. He has mastered his layup attempts along with understanding angles and how to attack weaker defenders. His unorthodox size and game make him an intriguing NBA prospect, but considering he is best suited as a playmaking four or even five, it will be interesting to see if he can hang with the like of a 7’3 Kristaps Porzingis. This won’t matter at the collegiate level and there will not be one player that will be able to guard Williamson or contain him from getting into the lane. Defensively, his Jordan-like leaping ability will allow him to be on of the nations top shot-blockers even though he stands just 6’6. Incredible to think about but this kid is his own player-type. His jumper is going to have to improve for NBA scouts to believe the hype. It would be fair to say that it would be disappointing if the Blue Devils are not cutting down the nets in April. This is arguably the best recruiting class any coach has ever taken on. This is going to be fun. De

Video of George Clooney’s scooter crash in Italy which sent him to the hospital has been released online.

The footage, which was taken from a nearby CCTV camera, shows George Clooney being thrown several feet into the air when his scooter collided with an oncoming car.

Following the accident, Clooney was taken to the hospital in Olbia where he was released shortly after. Officials said that his injuries were not believed to be serious.

Giovanni Mannoni, a police commander in Olbia, said the actor did not suffer any serious injuries or break any bones.

via CNN:

George Clooney has been released from an Italian hospital after being involved in a motor accident Tuesday. The 57-year-old actor was thrown over the top of his scooter after being hit by a Mercedes in Olbia on the island of Sardinia.

Clooney told a friend it’s “good to be alive” after the road accident. He told his friend, CNN contributor John Avlon, that he was going 65 mph when the other driver cut in front of him, hitting him head-on.

The film star smashed the windshield with his head and flew 30 feet from the car, Avlon said Clooney relayed to him.
The driver of the Mercedes hit Clooney after failing to stop at a turn, according to Alberto Cicognani, a Carabinieri officer.

Cicognani told CNN he had spoken with Clooney, who said he was “fine” and would resume filming of a miniseries based on “Catch-22,” the Joseph Heller book, in a couple of days.

“George Clooney was treated and released from an Olbia hospital. He is recovering at his home and will be fine,” a representative told Fox News.

Blake Griffin, the Detroit Pistons all-star power forward, has clearly recovered from breaking up with Kendall Jenner as he has found himself a new girlfriend and a stunning one at that.

According to various tabloid reports, Detroit Blake is now dating Francesca Aiello, an Instagram model and bikini fashion designer. Aiello founded the swimsuit line Frankies Bikinis.

via TMZ:

Blake Griffin stripped down to his niftiest trunks for a beach day this weekend, but might’ve been one-upped by his own GF’s swimwear … yeah, bikinis are kinda her thing.

The Pistons power forward hit up a beach in Malibu Saturday with Francesca Aiello — founder of Frankies Bikinis — whom he’s been seeing since at least last month. Unlike their last ‘Bu outing, this time they got in the water … and showed off their killer bods.

Yes, Blake was looking good in his pink shorts — but, truth be told … Francesca seems to have the edge over him here.

That just us, though. Things appear to be going smoothly for the new couple so far — mark this one as another date in the books.

Blake Griffin is an American professional basketball player for the Detroit Pistons.

Griffin played college basketball for the Oklahoma Sooners and was named the Consensus National Player of the Year as a sophomore. Griffin was selected first overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2009 NBA draft, and has since been a five-time NBA All-Star and a four-time All-NBA selection.

Richard Harris, an Australian doctor who was the last member of the rescue team to leave the Thai cave, has lost his father. Harris learned of his father’s passing shortly after assisting in the rescue of 13 people who were trapped in a Thailand cave.

Harris’ boss Andrew Pearce — the MedSTAR clinical director — said in a statement: “This is clearly a time of grief for the Harris family, magnified by the physical and emotional demands of being part of this week’s highly complex and ultimately successful rescue operation.”

Harris, the Adelaide based doctor, helped play a part in deciding the order in which the 13 were freed.

According to The Daily Mail, Dr. Harris was described as ‘essential’ to the rescue operation because of “his unique skills and expertise, including 30 years of cave diving experience and his work as a medical retrieval specialist with South Australia’s MedSTAR service.”

via Business Insider:

Adelaide anesthetist Richard Harris was called in to assist in the rescue at Chiang Rai based on his diving expertise and medical knowledge, and had been involved in determining when each boy would swim out of the cave.

The ABC reports that Harris and three Navy SEALS were the last out of the cave following the rescue of the 12 boys and their coach, emerging several hours after the last of the soccer team.

It was “a short time after the successful rescue operation” that Harris learned of his father’s death, according to Dr Andrew Pearce, Director of Clinical Services at MEDStar.

Reports state that Harris was the last member of the rescue team to exit the cave. Pearce did not say how the father died and asked for the family’s privacy to be respected.

NFL cornerback Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones was recorded fighting and knocking out an airport employee.

According to police, Jones was assaulted by an airport worker at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

The employee, identified as Frank Ragin, allegedly made a gesture toward Jones around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10. Police say that Jones confronted the man about what the gesture meant and the two began to argue.

Ragin was charged with two counts of battery and was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

via AJC:

The argument occurred on concourse B near Gate B6, police said.
Ragin allegedly punched Jones, injuring his face. He also allegedly struck Jones’ companion, who has not been identified, injuring her hand.

Police said Jones, 34, then pushed Ragin to the ground. Police eventually determined Ragin was the primary aggressor.

Ragin, who was charged with two counts of battery, was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injuries. Jones and his companion declined medical treatment.

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has been the world’s busiest airport by passenger traffic since 1998.

This is not Jones’ first controversial moment as he has a history of incidents during his career.

When he was drafted into NFL, Jones was on probation for a fight in West Virginia. In February 2006, Jones was arrested in Fayetteville, Georgia after an incident outside a home. On August 25, 2006, during training camp, Jones was arrested in Murfreesboro, Tennessee for disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

In fact, he has an entire section on his Wikipedia dedicated to his legal troubles. However, Jones was not in the wrong this time, as police determined that the airport employee was the instigator of the fight.

Saddest Moments In TV History

TV can do a lot of things, but the one things it continues to do is bring out the tears in all of our eyes. All the stories we have binged watched and connected with must sometimes come to an end. Or characters we have fallen in love with must say their goodbyes in a tearful final episode or a tragic death. There is never an easy way to say goodbye to anything, but it isn’t even the goodbye’s that get us. TV shows have an idea of pulling at our heartstrings with real-life emotional situations. Sometimes you don’t even realize you are crying until the show ends. I’m not crying your crying. Here are our top five saddest moments in TV history.

“How come he don’t want me, man?” – Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

EDIT | Fresh Prince of Bel-Air – Will's Father leaves!: https://t.co/mHzhBKiuHy via @YouTube

— Shan (@XSHNZZX) July 1, 2018

Fresh Prince of Bel-Air always found a way into our hearts, but this particular scene touches on the real world of Will. With kids who never grew up with a father, Will explains how he grew up just fine without his father around. But, after his rage at having fourteen birthdays without a simple card, learning to drive by himself, and promising that he would be a better father to his kids. He went on to ask the tearful questions, “how come he don’t want me, man?”. And by that point, if you aren’t crying you have no heart.

When Fry’s dog waited – Futurama

Cartoons usually don’t get that many tearful moments. But Futurama does just that, and the creators can bring the two most heartbreaking things and put it into one. Everyone loves dogs, and no one likes waiting. Fry’s dog, for 12 years, waits outside Panucci’s pizza place for Fry to come back while he was frozen until he died. That little time laps to his death are heartbreaking. You can feel your heart tearing into a million pieces watching Fry’s dog get old with every passing day. All you want to do is scream at Fry for not bringing his dog back to life. Of course, he remembers you! Excuse me while I grab a tissue.

Full of excitement to see Lily he doesn’t expect to face the news that will break his heart. The tears start when we hear Lily explain what has happened to his father. But the heartbreaking moment occurs when Marshall says “my dad’s dead?”. And that’s when the real tears fall.

Michael’s Last Dundies – The Office

Michaels Last Dundies (The Office) Goodbye Michael Song http://t.co/DgQJ0MORLN via @youtube

The Office had a sad farewell to Steve Corel as Michael Scott. During the episode of Michael’s last dundies, he presented the final award in the meeting room. His coworkers surprised him with a song they reprised from Seasons of Love and turned it into 9,986,000 minutes all reminding him about his days at Dunder Mifflin. And to make it even sadder, Michael’s reaction is Steve Corel’s reaction to hearing this song. I’m going to need more tissues.

The Final Scene – Friends

After ten seasons of laughs and weird jokes, we had to say goodbye to friends. The heartbreak didn’t come when all six characters went their separate ways. It was the final scene of looking through the empty apartment. At the very end, we see all six keys’ each character left which was their goodbye from the show. Then we see the famous picture frame as the screen slowly fades to black with the emotional music in the background. It’s like you are saying goodbye to a part of your life.

John Schnatter, the founder of Papa John’s, is facing controversy after allegedly using a racial slur earlier this week. According to reports, Papa John himself decided to drop the n-word during a conference call back in May. The revelation comes not long after Schnatter made himself a figure in the NFL’s national anthem protest debate by claiming the protests were negatively impacting his pizza sales.

But this time, his own words are being used against him.

In a call that was with a company named Laundry Service, Schnatter was reportedly talking about public relations issues when he decided to discuss KFC founder Colonel Sander’s use of the n-word. As a result, he used the word himself and then used a bizarre reference about his upbringing and dragging people of color from cars.

From a Forbes report:

On the May call, Schnatter was asked how he would distance himself from racist groups online. He responded by downplaying the significance of his NFL statement. “Colonel Sanders called blacks n—–s,” Schnatter allegedly said, before complaining that Sanders never faced public backlash.

Schnatter also reflected on his early life in Indiana, where, he said, people used to drag African-Americans from trucks until they died. He apparently intended for the remarks to convey his antipathy to racism, but multiple individuals on the call found them to be offensive, the source said.

Papa John’s has yet to respond to the allegations or issue a denial.

Hip hop artist Tekashi 6ix9ine has been arrested. In the latest issue for the Brooklyn rapper, Tekashi was booked this week after returning from his European tour. According to reports, 6ix9ine was arrested at John F. Kennedy Airport when he landed on a warrant related to the alleged choking of a 16-year-old in Houston, Texas.

From TMZ:

Tekashi was arrested Wednesday at JFK Airport right after he returned from a European tour. Cops were enforcing a warrant out of Houston for a mall attack. As we reported, the rapper was wanted for allegedly choking a 16-year-old kid in January at the Galleria Mall.

6ix9ine’s team tells us they were aware of the warrant, and intended to handle the matter soon.

They also think NYPD has no business arresting him and extraditing him to Texas for what’s ultimately a misdemeanor case.

The incident reportedly took place back in January. The alleged victim, Santiago Albarran, claims he began recording Tekashi after running into him at the mall, but the rapper grabbed him by the neck and began choking him. It was at that point that Albarran claims he erased the video. There is, however, a video that appears to show Tekashi 6ix9ine and Albarran in some sort of altercation.

It is a misdemeanor case and there is no official word on the altercation and/or incident from Tekashi or his team at the time of publishing.

This is a developing story. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Laquisha Jones, 30, has been arrested in connection to the violent assault of Rodolfo Rodriguez in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says that Jones beat Rodriguez with a break after he allegedly bumped into the young female child she was with.

According to reports, the 92-year-old Rodriguez was taking his daily walk around the block near his Willowbrook home when he was confronted by a woman with a child. The woman confronted Rodriguez for allegedly bumping into the young girl before shoving him to the ground and attacking him with a brick, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials confirmed.

During the attack, the woman reportedly yelled at Rodriguez to “go to back your [his] country.” Erik Mendoza, Rodriguez’ grandson, says that Rodolfo does not speak English and does not know why he was attacked.

via KTLA:

According to Mendoza, the woman in the video pushes him to the floor before grabbing a brick and beating him with it.

“And then when one of the witnesses comes out of her car and starts screaming at her, four other guys come in and start kicking on him,” Mendoza told KTLA.

Misbel Borjas, Rodriguez’s neighbor, said she was the witness involved. Borjas said she also came under attack after she tried helping her friend and claims the mother “tried to hit me with the same rock like hit him.” Rodriguez’s family said they’re grateful he’ll eventually recover from his serious injuries, but they fear someone else may be targeted if those suspects remain on the streets.

“How can you hurt a 92-year-old man? What kind of threat does he pose to you, for you to do this to him?” Mendoza asked. “That’s why we’re still in shock, as you can see he’s badly injured.”

“Detectives began an extensive investigation into the assault. They obtained an arrest and search warrant for a suspect. Due to working every angle and lead in the case, it ultimately resulted in the arrest of Laquisha Jones without incident,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

While Rodriguez — who was interviewed by investigators — wasn’t able to remember much about the incident, he was able to identify his attacker in the video.

Katie Goodland is the fiancee of one of the top players in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Earlier this year, Goodland was proposed to by her longtime boyfriend Harry Kane, the England soccer star and current Golden Boot front-runner in Russia. The couple has been dating for a number of years and have finally made the decision that it is time to tie the knot.

Goodland and Kane are childhood sweethearts.

Kane says that Goodland was his first kiss dating back to when he was just 14 years old. From an interview with Express:

My first kiss was… with my fiancée Katie back when we were at school. We’ve known each other for 20 years and been together for about six but she was my first kiss when I was about 14. That was a one-off at a party and although we were always good mates, it wasn’t until after we had left school that we got together properly.

The couple has a child together, Ivy Jane Kane, and two dogs, Brady and Wilson, who are named after NFL star quarterbacks Tom Brady and Russell Wilson.

“We went to school together, so she’s seen my whole career. Of course, she’s finding it a little crazy. I think she’s even been in the papers a couple of times taking the dogs out,” he said when he first revealed that the two were dating in an interview with Esquire.

Weed Strain of the Week: Granddaddy Purple

As the years go by and the youth become the adults, weed has assimilated itself more and more into everyday life, and therefore, everyday business. Medical marijuana, commercial marijuana, marijuana paraphernalia, literal marijuana commercials, edible marijuana, marijuana oil, marijuana magazines, and now, COED marijuana articles. Everybody else in the United States seems to be getting in on the reefer madness, so we’ve decided to do the same by introducing a new franchise: Weed Strain of the Week.

When I think of weed strains, the first thing that comes to mind is the 2008 stoner comedy classic Pineapple Express. In one of the earliest scenes of the movie, Saul explains to Dale how fire his newest strain of marijuana — Pineapple Express — is by only referring to previous strains that Dale had smoked.

“This is like if that Blue Oyster shit met that Afghan Kush I had – and they had a baby. And then, meanwhile, that crazy Northern Light stuff I had and the Super Red Espresso Snowflake met and had a baby. And by some miracle, those two babies met and fucked – this would the shit that they birthed.”

The strain “Super Red Espresso Snowflake” always stood out because it’s the perfect skewering of drug dealers who tried tell you what kind of strain you were buying: they were really just making shit up. However, now that legal marijuana and dispensaries exist, actual marijuana strains are more prevalent than ever, so we figured it’s time we start learning them all, one by one.

This week’s Weed Strain of the Week? Granddaddy Purple.

Granddaddy Purple

– Species

  • Indica Hybrid

– About (via Leafly):

Introduced in 2003 by Ken Estes, Granddaddy Purple (or GDP) is a famous indica cross between Purple Urkle and Big Bud. This California staple inherits a complex grape and berry aroma from its Purple Urkle parent, while Big Bud passes on its oversized, compact bud structure. GDP flowers bloom in shades of deep purple, a contrastive backdrop for its snow-like dusting of white crystal resin.

Its potent effects are clearly detectable in both mind and body, delivering a fusion of cerebral euphoria and physical relaxation. While your thoughts may float in a dreamy buzz, your body is more likely to find itself fixed in one spot for the duration of GDP’s effects. Like most heavy indica varieties, Granddaddy Purple is typically pulled off the shelf for consumers looking to combat pain, stress, insomnia, appetite loss, and muscle spasms. GDP blesses growers with massive commercial yields which are ready for harvest following a 60 day flowering time indoors.

– History (via Wikileaf):

Created back in 2003 by Ken Estes in the San Francisco Bay Area, Ken and his team sought out to create the ultimate Indica hybrid by merging two strains with fantastic genetics – Purple Urkle and Big Bud. The product of these two, Grand Daddy Purple, is a spitting image of it’s parents’ two best qualities – the deep and dark purple hue from Purple Urkle and the overgrown, dense buds of Big Bud. The dark purple buds blend well with the bright orange hairs and frosted white trichomes that generously cover the bud making it an extremely photogenic strain.

From San Francisco down to Los Angeles, Grand Daddy Purple is one of the most sought after Indica strains due to it’s Hollywood looks and classic Indica effects. Despite this popularity, however, many growers and those working in the dispensary world have claimed that Grand Daddy Purps is almost identical to another famous purple strain – Grape Ape. Some even go so far as to speculate that these two strains may be in fact the same. Others simply say that they are so eerily similar in lineage, look, taste, and effects that they are simply confused with one another by growers, dispensaries, and consumers alike.

It’s Not Coming Home: The Internet Reacts To England’s World Cup Loss

Unfortunately for England and their loyal fans, football is unfortunately not coming home as the Three Lions fell to a resilient Croatia side in extra-time 2-1.

Despite taking an early lead on a 5th-minute free kick from Kiernan Trippier, England went on to concede in the 68th minute and again in the 109th minute, with Mario Mandzukic’s extra-time goal proving to be the game-winner.

England had tons of momentum heading into the semi-final game, in part because of their youth in the squad and the enthusiasm of their fanbase, particularly, their embracement of the “It’s Coming Home” song.

However, because England and their fans leaned so heavily into “It’s Coming Home”, it was obviously thrown back in their face as soon their tournament run came to an end.

England’s young side was one of the surprises of the tournament as a semi-final appearance far exceeded any expectations that fans had for this team heading into the tournament.

As for Croatia, they will face France in the World Cup Final on Sunday, July 15.
