Popular Swedish DJ Tim Bergling, better known by his stage name, Avicii, has been found dead at the age of 28 in Muscat, Oman, as confirmed by his publicist. Considered a pioneer and icon of the EDM (Electronic Dance Movement), he was best known for his songs, “Le7els”, “Wake Me Up” and “Hey Brother.” Notably, he passed away just days after he was nominated for a Billboard Music Award. In the wake of his death, fans throughout the world, including some big names, have been offering their condolences online through social media.

Popular DJ Avicii, born Tim Bergling, passed away at age 28 on Friday afternoon. A statement from his represented confirmed his passing in Oman. “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii,” the statement from his rep read. “He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th.  The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”

At the time of his retirement, Avicii suffered health issues that stemmed in part from excessive drinking. Along with suffering from acute pancreatitis, Avicii had his gallbladder and appendix removed.

Avicii remained one of the most popular and revolutionary producers of EDM.

While he was no longer performing live, Avicii indicated that he was back in the studio and working on new music.

A statement on his website read:

Last year I quit performing live, and many of you thought that was it. But the end of live never meant the end of Avicii or my music. Instead, I went back to the place where it all made sense – the studio.

The next stage will be all about my love of making music to you guys. It is the beginning of something new.

Avicii was responsible for a number of memorable electronic and dance classics that twisted genre norms and left him with a unique and identifiable sound.

Tim Bergling, the Swedish DJ and record producer better known as Avicii, has died at age 28. Known for popularizing the style of electronic dance music known as “deep house” with tracks such as “Levels” and “Wake Me Up,” Bergling was one of the most recognizable names in house music and DJing worldwide. Avicii Net Worth 2018: $85 Million

Bergling’s success at a relatively young age left him with quite a bit of money in the bank. As one of the most popular DJ’s in the world, Bergling was a common fixture on Forbe’s list of highest paid musicians, ranking as the 10th-highest paid DJ in the world when he was just 22.

Early Life: 1989 – 2009

Born on September 8, 1989 in Stockholm, Sweden, Tim Bergling grew up playing music and began remixing songs and producing his own original pieces when he was 18. Initially intending to upload his music to websites like Myspace, Bergling found that his actual name was already in use, leading him to choose the name Avicii — the lowest level of Buddhist ‘hell.’

Career Beginnings and Breakthrough Success: 2010 – 2013

Bergling quickly asserted himself as a prolific online producer and remixer, scoring global success with tracks such as “Seek Bromance,” a top 20 hit in multiple countries. By 2010, at age 21, Bergling had signed with the European A&R branch of EMI Music Publishing. The next year he would release perhaps the biggest track of his career, “Levels.”

In 2012, Bergling’s track “Sunshine” with David Guetta was nominated for a Grammy for Best Dance Recording. That same year, he would enter a brief legal dispute with Leona Lewis concerning her uncredited sample of his song “Fade Into Darkness.” Bergling briefly attempted to halt the release of her single “Collide,” before the two settled things civilly outside of court.

Album Releases and Global Success: 2013 – 2018

In 2013, Bergling released his first full-length studio album, titled True, through Island Records. The record was an experimental turn for Bergling, who had begun incorporating various genres and sounds into his work in house music, including the sounds and themes of country music, as can be heard in the album’s lead single, “Wake Me Up.”

Before you throw your arms in the air, calling me a terrible person, let me clarify what I mean by “brilliant”.  Is getting caught being wildly racist on camera and then chalking it up to satire despicable? Yes. Is it reprehensible? Yes. Is it taking the easy way out? Yes. Is it the truth? Of course not.

But is it a legitimate defense? Well … in the eyes of the court, it could be.

Think about all the headache the 2nd amendment has caused this country over the last few years? Gun lobbyists and ultra-conservatives have been able to lean on the 2nd Amendment in order to get what they want, even if that means the lives of children. Well, this fraternity is doing the same thing by claiming satire, which, conveniently, is protected by the 1st Amendment, arguably the most important law in this country. They’ve turned an issue about their racism, xenophobia, and general stupidity into an issue about the 1st Amendment and what type of language — i.e. “satire” — is protected by it.

“It was a satirical sketch of an uneducated, racist, homophobic, misogynist, sexist, ableist and intolerant person. The young man playing the part of this character nor the young man being roasted do not hold any of the horrible views espoused as a part of that sketch,” Theta Tau’s statement reads. “We would like to believe that the new members seen in the video laughing at the horrible things being said were not laughing in concurrence with these beliefs, but in fact the opposite—that racism, sexism and homophobia are so wrong that they are laughable. None of the satire was said or done in malice.”

Not to say that anyone should believe or forgive them, but they only had one card to play, and they played it. Gotta respect that.

Dear Syracuse University Community:

First and foremost, every single member of Theta Tau would like to apologize to everyone affected by the racist video that was recorded as a part of our new member process. Theta Tau is made up of a diverse group of engineering students from a variety of nationalities, beliefs, and backgrounds, and we strongly believe that racism has no place on a university campus. College is supposed to be about the ideals of the future – a new generation to replace the old one – and it’s with profound embarrassment and disappointment in ourselves that we find our fraternity in this situation. Anyone of color or of any marginalized group who has seen this video has every right to be angry and upset with the despicable contents of that video.

For those of you who do not know Theta Tau, we are ashamed that this is the first time you’re hearing of us. Our house is not and has never been a place for hate. We have a no tolerance policy for troubling and offensive behavior. We welcome members of all backgrounds. We support the shared community that we all live in with events, fundraisers, and any way that we can. Of course, none of this can possibly excuse the words that came from our fraternity house last month, no matter the context the words were used in.

However, we do believe that it is important to understand that context. Not to make excuses for the content of the video, but hopefully to make those who have been hurt by this video understand that Theta Tau is not a hate group in their midst—that we are not a house full of bigots or those willing to tolerate bigotry. Hopefully, understanding the circumstances of the video – as well as our initial response – will help ease some of the pain caused by the horrible words that this video contains.

Each semester our new members are given the opportunity to write and act out a skit, in order to roast the active brothers. This event was never intended to be centered around racism or hate. This year, one of these brothers is a conservative Republican, and the new members roasted him by playing the part of a racist conservative character. It was a satirical sketch of an uneducated, racist, homophobic, misogynist, sexist, ableist and intolerant person. The young man playing the part of this character nor the young man being roasted do not hold any of the horrible views espoused as a part of that sketch. We would like to believe that the new members seen in the video laughing at the horrible things being said were not laughing in concurrence with these beliefs, but in fact the opposite—that racism, sexism and homophobia are so wrong that they are laughable. None of the satire was said or done in malice.

That said, many bright lines were obviously crossed. The language used in this sketch is disgraceful, and it made the active brothers very uncomfortable. Our organization would never demand, or even ask our new members to recite any of this. We spoke to the new members about their actual beliefs shortly after their parody and we all agreed that those words should never be spoken—in our house, or anywhere.

Engineers join our organization with the intent of entering a diverse group of people, so that we can all grow into better individuals. We are open-minded, scholarly leaders, both in our profession and in the community. We want to let everyone on our campus know that we are truly sorry, and that nothing like this will ever again be tolerated. Not in private, not as part of a joke—not ever. We cannot apologize enough for the pain, sadness and fear that this has caused. Our heart breaks when we see the protests and Hendricks Chapel congregations when we see the pain that our brothers have caused. As the diverse organization that we are, many of us have shared the same emotions regarding the toxic social and political environment in our country. We understand that we have thrown a lot of fuel into an intolerant fire burning throughout our community, and we know that this issue is much larger than just an isolated incident in our basement.

We hear you all, and we also want to take action, to make the world a better, safer, more inclusive place for everyone. We promise to maintain a dialogue with our peers about bettering our community. It is everyone’s responsibility to help marginalized groups have power and a voice, and we want to create a platform to support doing so. We feel that it is crucial that the dialogue of intolerance at Syracuse does not end here, and we are calling for all other aligning organizations to contact us at tauthetatau@gmail.com so that we may realize change.

I guess… Now college students can breathe a sigh of relief. Their wish came true. It’s about time they can open a cold one at a sports title game.

But, of course, this ultimate ruling did not come easy-handed. There was not only extreme backlash surrounding this controversial issue — there was also adversity stemming from this heated debate. And it wasn’t until Wednesday, April 18, in Indianapolis, when a unanimous decision was made by the NCAA Division I Council.

With this victory for many college institutions — including Louisiana State University — a waiver is no longer necessary. So who was responsible for preventing the sale of alcohol at college championship games? Some member schools.

But that’s not all. The whole Southeastern Conference restricts the sale of alcohol in private areas, such as; the premium seating.

Don’t you think by colleges prohibiting the purchase of alcohol will reduce the attendance at games and drive the earnings down substantially at the arenas? For sure. That’s why an amendment was introduced.

I mean, seriously, college students should be able to relax and enjoy themselves at a game with a beer — after all, college is supposed to be one of the best four-years of a student’s life. Also supporting the overturn of the long-tradition ban on alcohol sales was the Southeastern Commissioner Greg Sankey. Let’s all thank him for helping to wipe away this uncalled-for policy.

According to Sankey, he believes the sale of alcohol at sports games will only increase the attendance. Sankey added, “There are a significant number of presidents that thinks this needs to be done.”

And besides for the boost of attendance, maybe there will be less alcohol-related incidents with this new policy enacted? Not maybe… It’s definite. Just in 2016-17 alone, the National Colonial Athletic Association (NCAA) released a document, which showed the pilot program, as a complete success. The association mentioned the results of the program are “highly favorable.” Indeed it is.

While pre-game and early-game alcohol incidents have plummeted, Sankey was certain that Monday late-night games selling alcohol will only drive incidents down. He stated, “If there’s a steady flow (of alcohol) through the game, what are the outcomes?”

“I think that right now this is a part of lengthy discussion and debate. I can remember some NFL games where it flows freely that I have attended where you end up in some really uncomfortable situations, and that’s why I think the responsible way to handle this is to continue the dialogue, see how we can manage oversight properly but still make sure our stadiums are family-friendly, if you will,” he said.

So now that the long-tradition policy has been eliminated, how will some college institutions react to this shocking decision? Will there be some sort of appeal by some of the school members? Or will they just let it go?

College Football 2018: Top 5 Best Quarterbacks In The SEC

Everyone loves the story of an underdog, The San Jose Sharks are the ones to beat this season. The 3-0 series lead has put San Jose at a considerable advantage. Their entire player lineup is something to be proud of. The Sharks are officially the West’s top contenders.

In Game 3 of the Stanley Cup series, San Jose had a four-goal second period, which led to three more goals in the final period. The Anaheim Ducks were at a loss for words. There was no way for them to catch up at this point. The Sharks 6-1 lead in the final minutes left in the game had the arena roaring.

San Jose was able to get two more power-play goals, past Anaheim back up Ryan Miller, and the game was over. When the final buzzer blared, the Ducks were left shaken by this brutal lose. The Sharks have officially surpassed their post-season expectations. They’ve had one of the most impressive playoff performances I’ve seen through the 20 plus games this 1st round of the series.

Top Players

The way the Sharks have been performing recently have proven they have been an incredibly underestimated Western Conference team. Martin Jones has made a massive difference for the Sharks this season as well. Afterall he did open the series with a 25-save shutout. In Game 2 Jones made 28 saves, 30 shots and managed to stop every puck that came his way. Which allowed him to get that one-goal lead in the last 12 minutes of the game. But Game 3 was Martin’s best performance thus far. Jones stopped 46 shots. Only letting one power-play goal past him, made by Richard Rickell of the Anaheim Ducks.

It’s only been three games, and Jones has been unstoppable! His save percentage is at an all-time high of .970% and 1.00 goals-against average. Martin Jones has only allowed 3 goals on 101 shots. This man is unstoppable. Given the fact that Jones had an average performance during the regular season, this postseason skill game as a shock.

Jones has only been one piece of the puzzle to San Jose’s success this postseason. The Sharks have shown fantastic skill far beyond their goaltending capabilities. San Jose currently has 11 players with a minimum of two points in the series. Every single forward has made it on the ice against Anaheim and scored.

Logan Couture and Joe Pavelski are currently leading the way with five points apiece. Evander Kane is the best trade deadline pickup San Jose has had so far. Kane has had three goals and four points, 17 shots on the net and an average on ice time of 18:30. Evander has also been an extremely physical asset to the team, laying six hits in three games. He’s definitely in it to win it all this postseason.

Those factors are all key in making it to the final two in the playoffs. The San Jose Sharks may have seemed like the underdogs of the NHL during the regular season, but have proven to be the Western Conference front-runners. I can’t wait to see what Game 4 has in store for this amazing team. Keep it up, boys.

Spring is a great time for sports. It’s the playoffs in some sports and the season is just getting underway in others. For some football fans though, it can be a little slow. The NFL team are just starting up OTAs while college teams are just finishing up their spring practices. The biggest thing to watch for in the A-Day game is how Jalen Hurts plays. The starter for the past two seasons, Hurts has been under pressure lately from his teammate Tua Tagliova over the starting QB job. Hurts’ father came out on Thursday saying that his son would become the biggest free agent in college football history if he lost the starting job to Tagliova, making his performance in the A-Day game that much more important.

Isabel Pakzad is a 24-year-old graduate student at the University of Southern California, who’s been dating James Franco since November 2017. She graduated from Penn State and is currently getting her Masters in Integrated Design, Business, and Technology at USC’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.

In 2018, James Franco’s success with HBO’s The Duece and film The Disaster Artist has largely been shadowed by accusations of sexual misconduct by several women. Franco denied the allegations, “the things that I heard that were on Twitter are not accurate,” but adding that he plans to take responsibility for his actions. “The way I live my life, I can’t live if there’s restitution to be made. I will make it. So if I’ve done something wrong, I will fix it,” Franco said.

Isabel has stayed by Franco’s side throughout the highly publicized scandal. The couple has remained fairly quiet about their romance, but have been spotted together in public on multiple occasions.

On Friday, April 20th, 2018, the Swedish DJ Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, was found at the age of 28. The cause of his untimely death is still unknown. It also happens to be the second weekend of Coachella and now many performers are paying tribute to one of the greatest DJs of our time.

Last night the Norwegian DJ, Kygo took to the main stage and at the end of his performance gave an emotional tribute to Avicii. Kygo started off by addressing the audience:

“Hey Coachella, I think most of you guys have heard, but today is a very sad day for music. Earlier today, I got the news that Avicii passed away at only 28 years old. Avicii was my biggest musical inspiration and he was the reason I started making electronic music. So I don’t think I would have been on this stage tonight if it wasn’t for him and I know he has inspired millions of other producers out there. So I want to end my set tonight with my favorite Avicii song. In honor of Avicii, I want you guys to dance and sing along and celebrate the life of a true musical genius.”

Kygo then played Avicii’s 2017 single “Without You.” During the song, a black and white photo of Avicii appeared on the Coachella screens along with the words, “Rest In Peace We Will Miss You 1989-2018.”

Additionally, Kygo posted an Instagram photo of the two of them on Friday with the caption, “Can’t believe this is true… My biggest inspiration and the reason why I started making electronic music. Thank you for all the joy you brought to the world with your music.”

Other musicians and producers have also mourned the loss of the Swedish singer. On film & television sets, commercial shoots, at comic-con’s & personal appearances, to his own YouTube videos, he was there to show everyone what he was capable of doing. Even though his stature was small and his parents often wondered if he’d be able to reach up and open doors on his own in his life, he went on to open more doors for himself and others than anyone could have imagined. He also touched more peoples hearts than he will ever know.”

“Verne was also a fighter when it came to his own battles.”

“Over the years he’s struggled and won, struggled and won, struggled and fought some more, but unfortunately this time was too much. During this recent time of adversity he was baptized while surrounded by his family. The family appreciates that they have this time to grieve privately.”

Barboza was completely exhausted in the second round and once again found himself getting slammed to the mat by Lee, who was doing nonstop damage throughout the round. After two dominant rounds, the tables turned when Barboza landed a wild spinning head kick that had Lee on the ropes. Lee ultimately survived and took the fight to the ground to regain his composure.

Lee regained himself and continued his dominance with impressive ground-and-pound for the remainder of the fight before the doctors ultimately stepped in to stop the fight.

Edgar had the entire crowd behind him and had a shining moment in the opening round when he temporarily rocked Swanson and looked to swarm his opponent. Swanson was able to survive the early onslaught and looked to find more success in Round 2. The pace slowed in the final round, with Swanson working his jab and Edgar countering with leg kicks. The most common theme in the fight, however, was Swanson focusing on preventing an Edgar takedown which resulted in a lower output than usual for Cub who never really found his rhythm.

Willis landed the more powerful punches throughout the fight, but Sherman was able to eat Willis’ best shots and attempted to sway the judges with a strong third round performance. However, Serman was unable to find a finish and ended up falling short on the judges’ scorecards.

The bout ended in controversial fashion, with Dvalishvili on his way to victory before being caught in a mounted guillotine as the final round was winding down. Dvalishvili never tapped, but the victory was ultimately given to Ricky Simon via TKO due to the referee’s decision.

Nabi Tajima, the world’s oldest person, has died at the age of 117 and the last known person born in the 19th century, in a hospital late Saturday evening in the town of Kikai in southern Japan, as confirmed by a town official, after having been hospitalized since January.

What happened?

Tajima was born on August 4, 1900, making her the world’s oldest person at the time of her death. Having survived multiple generations, she reportedly had over 160 descendants, which even extended to great-great-great-grandchildren. She lived in the town of Kikai in Kagoshima prefecture on Kyushu, the most southern of Japan’s four main islands.

According to the Associated Press, she had actually become the world’s oldest person seven months ago following the death of Violet Brown in Jamaica back in September, who coincidentally was also the age of 117. At the time, Tajima became a local celebrity because of the news, as video of her was shown on Japanese television, with her even moving her hands along to the music.

Tajima’s age and nationality actually line her up with other living supercentenarians. Another Japanese woman, Chiyo Miyako, is now believed to be the world’s oldest person, as confirmed by the Gerontology Research Group, which is based in the United States; coincidentally enough, Miyako is also expected to turn 117 in little more than a week.

Interestingly enough, the world’s oldest man, Masazo Nonaka, who had been certified as being 112 years of age by the Guinness World Records, is also from Japan, living in a northern part of the country.
