College Football Playoff Rankings 2017: Week 13 Must-See Team Ranks

Aside from head-scratching switch of Miami (now ranked second) and Clemson (now ranked third), the Playoff rankings are not particularly surprising. With the absence of notable upsets this weekend, the top 12 remains relatively intact, allowing pundits and fans to debate some of the lower rankings this week. Washington and Washington State each moved up a spot in the rankings to set up what should be a tremendously competitive Apple Cup contest while the underrated UCF Knights remain the 15th ranked program in the country despite a blemishless record

College Football Playoff Rankings 2017: Week 13

Amongst the newest additions to the Playoff rankings this week is the young but highly talented Virginia Tech as Hokies as well as the South Carolina Gamecocks, who have won five out of their last six games. The only major change in the rankings was the precipitous drop of the Oklahoma State Cowboys from 13th to 19th after losing to a resilient albeit inferior opponent in Kansas State.

Ranking   Team
1  Alabama
2  Miami
3  Clemson
4  Oklahoma
5  Wisconsin
6  Auburn
7  Georgia
8  Notre Dame
9  Ohio State
10  Penn State
11  USC
12  TCU
13  Washington State
14  Mississippi State
15  UCF
16  Michigan State
17  Washington
18  LSU
19  Oklahoma State
20  Memphis
21  Stanford
22  Northwestern
23  Boise State
24  South Carolina
25  Virginia Tech

After receiving a slight albeit controversial bump by the committee from third to second in the country, the Hurricanes are riding the wave of their opportunistic defense to an eventual showdown with Clemson in the ACC Championship. Arguably the most exciting conference championship game, the ACC grudge between the two of the best programs in the country will certainly make the Playoff Committees final decision particularly difficult.

Dropped From Rankings: Michigan, NC State
New Additions: Virginia Tech (25), South Carolina (24)

Shane McMahon is Feeling Optimistic

Commissioner Shane O’Mac has a peep in his step as he comes down to the ring. Despite the outcome of Survivor Series, he’s very proud of the SmackDown roster. The only two people on the roster he wasn’t proud of is…

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn come out next and start talking trash. They say they could have defeated anyone on the Monday Night Raw roster if they were put on the main-card at Survivor Series. They also think McMahon owes them an apology. Shane is about to fire their ass when…

SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan comes out to intervene. Bryan stops Shane from firing the duo of Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. The GM tells Sami Zayn to “shut up” and then announces a Lumberjack match for later tonight, as The New Day will face off against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn (who don’t seem like they appreciate this news).

Jey Uso vs. Shelton Benjamin

Benjamin pushes Jey Uso in the corner to start the match. Jey fights back, but Shelton turns the tide with a knee to the face which knocks the Uso out of the ring. Shelton leaves the ring and performs a scoopslam on Jey. The fight returns to the ring. Jey Uso tries fighting back but is overwhelmed by the powerful veteran. Shelton wears down Jey with a headlock, but Uso fights up and out. Jey’s comeback is shortlived as Shelton drops him with a spine-buster. Benjamin puts Jey back into that headlock.

Jey Uso fights out of the headlock once again. He drops Benjamin with a Samoan Drop. Jey rattles Benjamin with a running butt to the head. Benjamin exits the ring then Jey runs the ropes is about to perform a suicide dive, but Chad Gable jumps up on the apron and prevents the move. Jimmy Uso pulls Chad off the apron and hits him in the mouth. Jimmy is about to throw Gable into the barricade, but the move is reversed.

Meanwhile, Shelton Benjamin sneaks into the ring and attempts to roll up Uso for a quick win. Jey kicks out and then super-kicks Benjamin in the face. Jey goes for the cover, but Benjamin kicks out at 2. Jey ascends the top rope and attempts a big splash, but Benjamin moves.

Shelton Benjamin finishes off his opponent with Pay Dirt.

Ruby Riot, Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan ATTACK!

Naomi is getting her make-up done when Ruby Riot emerges. She introduces her two friends – Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan. They immediately assault and beat the hell out of Naomi. Becky Lynch tries to intervene but gets beat up as well.

The Hype Bros vs. The Bludgeon Brothers

The Bludgeon Brothers are about to make their SmackDown Live debuts!

The match ended in a matter of minutes. Luke Harper took out Zack Ryder in the opening moments of the match, as he was hit in the face with a big boot and then thrown into the steel steps. Meanwhile, in the ring, Harper and Rowan picked apart Mojo Rawley piece-by-piece. They took turns, tagging each other in and out, and laying waste to Rawley. Harper whips Rowan into Mojo, and Rowan slings Mojo into Harper who swiftly eliminates the competition. They double-team Mojo and it’s all over. It wouldn’t be long before Mojo fell to The Bludgeon Brothers.

AJ Styles Live

WWE Champion AJ Styles plans to call out “The Modern Day Maharaja” Jinder Mahal next!

AJ Styles is ready to battle Brock Lesnar again. Styles may have lost the first match, but just like Rocky, he promises to win in the sequel. Styles then calls out Jinder Mahal. He lays down his WWE Championship. He’s ready to fight now!

Jinder Mahal appears on the titan-tron. He can’t make it to SmackDown because he’s too busy watching Styles being beaten by Brock Lesnar over and over again. Mahal says that he’ll invoke his rematch clause at a place better than Texas. He’ll fight Styles at the next pay-per-view Clash of Champions.

The Singh Brothers rush the ring outta nowhere and attack AJ Styles. However, Styles gains the upper-hand and dispatches of each Singh Brother. He then performs a Styles Clash on one Singh Brother in front of an enraged Jinder Mahal glaring at the ring from the large titan-tron screen.

NEXT WEEK: AJ Styles vs. The Singh Brothers in a two-on-one handicap match.

WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship match: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Natalya

Natalya and Charlotte lock up. Natalya gains the edge in the early moments of the match, ramming Charlotte into the ring post. Nattie dominates “The Queen” outside the ring, tossing her into the barricade. She then brings the fight back into the ring. Charlotte tries fighting back but is stomped and punched into the corner. Nattie then performs a snap-suplex on Charlotte. Nattie disrespects Charlotte by walking on her fallen body. But Charlotte rolls her cocky opponent in a pinning position. Nattie kicks out and continues the assault.

Charlotte fights back and Natalya is knocked out of the ring. Then out of nowhere, Ruby Riot, Liv Morgan, and Sarah Logan appear and attack Natalya. The referee calls for the bell. After laying out Natalya, the trio enters the ring and beat down Charlotte Flair.

Natalya defeats Charlotte Flair via disqualification

Lumberjack Match: Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs. The New Day

Big E and KO square off to start off tonight’s main event. Big E tosses Owens to mat, but he quickly recovers and traps Big E in a head-lock. Kofi receives the tag and double-teams KO. Kofi is knocked out of the ring, but none of the lumberjacks attack him. Meanwhile, KO argues with his tag team partner Sami Zayn. Kofi returns to the ring and Sami receives the tag.

Kofi Kingston avoids a cheap shot but gets driven to the mat with a hard shoulder from Zayn. The crowd seems more concerned about Shinsuke Nakamura standing at ringside than Kingston running the ropes and taking down his opponent with a back elbow. Kofi goes for the cover, but Zayn kicks out at the count of 1. Kofi is once again thrown out to the wolves on the outside, but none of the lumberjacks attack him. KO and Zayn look frustrated. Zayn exits the ring to retrieve Kofi but is immediately attacked by lumberjacks who throw him back into the ring. Sami tries to escape up the ramp, but he is hounded down by lumberjacks and tossed into the ring once again as we go to the commercial break.

When we return from the break, we see The New Day performing a Unicorn Stomp on the helpless KO in the corner. Kofi goes for the cover on Owens. 1…2…kick out! Owens tries to recuperate, while Kofi knocks Sami Zayn off the apron. Kofi turns around to a superkick from KO. Owens goes on the attack and talks some serious trash. Sami gets the tag and goes on the attack.

Sami takes out Kofi with a clothesline and goes for the pin. 1…2…Kofi kicks out!

Owens is tagged back in and levels Kingston with a head-butt in the corner of the ring. Owens continues the punishment until Big E gets the tag. Big E keeps some serious booty, taking out both men, and sending Sami flying with two back-to-back suplexes. Big E runs the ropes and performs a splash on an unsuspecting Sami. Meanwhile, fans are going crazy for The New Day. Big E attempts a Big End on Sami, but “The Underdog of the Underground” counters and sends Big E sailing into the turnbuckle.

Kofi tags himself in reenters the match with a big crossbody off the top rope. He pins Zayn, but KO breaks up the pin at the count of 2. All four men are now in the ring, battling it out. Kofi sends Sami sailing over the top rope onto of several lumberjacks. Corbin tries to attack Sami who moves out of the way. Corbin hits Roode instead and an all-out brawl ensues.

The brawl enters the ring, and it’s safe to say that all hell has officially broken loose. The Lumberjacks return the fight to ringside. New Day member Xavier Woods takes out lumberjack Michael Kanellis. Owens levels Woods. Kofi Kingston is too distracted by KO and gets rolls up by Sami Zayn for the win.

Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens defeat The New Day

Post-Match: Big E and KO are having a staredown after the match. Rusev kicks Big E in the head and Aiden English joins in on the assault. Meanwhile, Owens escapes through the crowd. Kofi Kingston leaps on Rusev and English, taking down both men in the process. Sami Zayn tries to escape but gets captured by Xavier Woods who brings Zayn back into the ring. Zayn pleads for mercy from The New Day but gets triple-teamed instead. Kingston hits him with a Trouble In Paradise. Big E picks up the fallen wrestler and Woods ascends the top rope to execute The Midnight Hour on Zayn. Meanwhile, Kevin Owens is backstage with SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan. KO is pleading for Bryan not to fire him or his friend Sami Zayn. But Bryan won’t fire KO or Zayn, as he recognizes their talent. Instead, Bryan will put KO’s abilities to the test next week in a match against “The Viper” Randy Orton.

NEXT WEEK: Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens

Evil Genius Chick Has Tinder Dates PayPal Her Money Before Blocking Them

Twitter

I know ‘savage’ has been a trendy slang word for a couple of years now, but this may very well take the cake for the most savage thing I’ve ever seen on the internet.

Meet Maggie Archer, who at first glance, seems like your standard 20-year-old from St. Louis. Well, you know that saying about ‘wolves in sheep’s clothing’? I don’t, but I feel like it would apply here.

Archer has essentially weaponized Tinder by tricking thirsty dudes into sending her money. Her profile simply reads, “Send me $5, see what happens.”

And, well, unsurprisingly, a bunch of dudes have:

Archer tells Buzzfeed News that because she’s not actually promising anything, it’s a foolproof plan:

“It’s really a foolproof plan, because I’m not actually promising anything, I just say ‘see what happens.”
“Some men get creepy and assume if they offer a lot more, like hundreds, something will actually happen, which of course it doesn’t,” she said.

While she has gotten mostly positive reactions from women, she says that she has received some negative responses from ‘mostly men,’ to whom I say this: grow the f*ck up. If a chick wants to take advantage of all the straight MORONS out there who think with their cylindrical brains, not only is that her right, but I respect the hell out of it. Hustle never sleeps, especially when all you have to do is put a mysterious caption in your Tinder bio and let the idiots come flocking.

Also, Maggie, ‘sup? I’m not stupid enough to send you money, but I’d definitely take you out, so if you read this, peep my bio and hit me up.

The Leader Of The Free World Hopped On Twitter Before Sunrise To Talk Shit To LaVar Ball

Before this article starts, cue the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme song. At this point, this song may as well blare out across nationwide speakers as a permanent soundtrack given the farce our country has become.

Music playing? Okay, let’s go…

If you haven’t heard by now, Donald Trump, the President of the United States and Leader of the Free World, is currently embedded in a Twitter feud with human troll LaVar Ball #ShitThatMatters.

Following LaVar’s electric CNN appearance on Monday night, everyone expected Donnie Freedom to come out firing first thing Tuesday morning. But … he didn’t, and everyone collectively thought “Hey, maybe POTUS matured a little and realized arguing with the generally irrelevant LaVar Ball isn’t the best idea for our nation.”

Well…

Donnie Freedom was up bright and early this morning — before sunrise — using his little thumbs to tweet his little heart out.

Just, let this sink in: the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES DEMANDING CREDIT AND THANKS FROM AN AVERAGE CIVILIAN. What a world.

To those who voted for this clown, I hope this Donnie vs. LaVar beef is worth it. All we need now is Vince McMahon and we can turn our nation into a real circus.

According to court records, Rosendale had inappropriate relations with the teenage boy between January 4 and February 3 of 2017. At the time of the relationship, Rosendal was a fifth-grade intervention specialist and junior high girls’ volleyball and basketball coach.

She resigned from her position as an educator for Riverdale Local Schools on March 27

via Toledo Blade:

Rosendale, 26, of Bloomdale, is charged with three counts of sexual battery, all third-degree felonies for offenses that occurred with a 13-year-old student between Jan. 4 and Feb. 3, according to court records.

She was indicted Tuesday by a Hancock County grand jury. It was not immediately known when Ms. Rosendale, who is no longer listed as a Riverdale employee, left her position.

Ms. Rosendale was approved for a one-year contract for the 2016-2017 school year in March 2016, according to Riverdale Local School District Board of Education meeting minutes.

Tom Cruise Wouldn’t Hang Out With His ‘Risky Business’ Co-Stars Cause He Was Too Busy Slaying

Warner Bros.

As Marc Jackson says on his NBA broadcasts: “Mama, there goes that man.”

Look, say what you will about his height, Scientology, and that whole couch thing, but Tom Cruise is a god damn legend. This may be a little bit of a hot take, but Tom Cruise was like Leo before Leo was. He was the premier movie star, making $20 million per movie and slaying any woman he wanted. There are few men on Earth who lived a life as sweet as peak-Tom Cruise.

But back in the day, before he committed to Scientology, Cruise just wanted everyone to believe he was a do-gooding church boy.

via Decider:

Before he was the world’s biggest movie star and the frontman for Scientology, Tom Cruise apparently spent his days on the Risky Business set turning down happy hour for “Bible reading” and getting bjs from a long line of admirers instead

Cruise apparently made “straight arrows look like corkscrews” when they weren’t shooting, and Armstrong would ask him to come out for drinks when they’d wrap each day, but Cruise would politely refuse. “Got an early call tomorrow. Got to work out still, study my lines. And then I like to read the Bible a little before bed.”

However, his co-star, Curtis Armstrong, said that couldn’t be further from the truth:

“Returning late one night, I found three or four young girls — late teens, I suspect — lined up in the hall outside of Tom’s room. I remember thinking, “Tom’s going to be really upset if these hot girls interfere with his Bible reading.” So I asked them, with all the stern gravitas of my 28 years, if there was something I could do to help them,” Armstrong writes. “They just stared at me, and at that moment, Tom’s door opened and another girl came out, adjusting her hair and taking off down the hall, while the first girl in line slipped into Tom’s room.” Armstrong laughs at his naivety now, marveling at the impressiveness at it all.

“This was a young man who knew something about time management and understood how to successfully juggle Bible study and blow jobs. I went to bed alone that night thinking it served me right for not being religious.”

I mean … OF COURSE Tom Cruise had hunnies lined up outside of his room. Risky Business came out in 1983, which puts Cruise at about 21-years-old. Could you imagine being a 21-year-old with movie star looks and money? In all honesty, I would probably end up killing myself with those resources.

(Chicago Police)

Megan Kotarski, a 28-year-old teacher at a charter school in Chicago, was arrested on Tuesday, November 21, and charged with sexually abusing a 16-year-old student.

Kotarski is accused of having sexual contact with the boy between June 16 and 18 of this year, according to reports.

The Chicago Sun-Times says that Kotarski turned herself into authorities after an investigation began earlier this month into the alleged misconduct by the former Horizon Science Academy Southwest Chicago teacher. She is being charged with a felony count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim between 13 and 18 years old.

via Chicago Sun-Times:

Police confirmed that the charge against Kotarski stemmed from an investigation that began earlier this month into alleged misconduct by a teacher at Horizon Science Academy Southwest Chicago at 5401 S. Western Ave. in the Gage Park neighborhood.

“As the allegations involved a minor, the school contacted the [Illinois] Department of Children and Family Services and Chicago Police,” Christopher Murphy, director of strategic growth & PR for Concept Schools, said at the time.

The school’s administration began an internal investigation on Nov. 6, Murphy said. As a result of that investigation, Kotarski, who had worked at the school since 2014, officially resigned Nov. 10.

According to a spokeswoman for the Department of Children and Family Services, the agency is investigating the case and that the investigation is pending.

Kotarski is expected to appear in court for a bond hearing on Wednesday, November 22.

This is the latest in a string of teacher/student sex scandals this year. In November, Tennessee teacher Janet Smothers was arrested. Former nutrition teacher LaToya Parker was also arrested for a relationship with a student. Florida teacher Caroline Lawson was charged with sexual assault. 26-year-old Allyson Moran was also arrested for similar crimes. The 23-year-old high school teacher Katherine Ross Ridenhour was also arrested for an inappropriate relationshipHunter Day, 22, was also arrested after a sting operation.

Cyber Monday 2017: Top 5 Best Tips To Avoid Scammers Online

Cyber Monday Scammers

Shutterstock

Cyber Monday is always a frenzied day of online shopping and bargain hunting. And according to Adobe Digital Insights (ADI), this Monday is set to be the largest online shopping day in history.  The madness of Monday is projected to best last year’s record of $3 billion sales. But be aware that there will be tricksters and fraudsters sneaking around online corners, trying to scam you out of your hard-earned cash.

Last year, there were 1,100 underhanded websites that manipulated and baited customers using five brand names referencing Black Friday and Cyber Monday, according cyber-security company RiskIQ. One in ten mobile apps associated with Black Friday is unsafe. Damn, these hackers, tricksters and thieves are relentless. So, if you want to avoid being swindled, you should check out these five tips for safe shopping.

1. Don’t shop on public Wi-Fi

Shutterstock

Shutterstock

If you’re on the go, do not do your Cyber Monday shopping (or any other future shopping) using public Wi-Fi. Just don’t, you’ll put your cyber security at risk and hackers will be better able to access your info. But if you really want to shop while on the go, find a hot spot or pick up a better data plan for your mobile device. Verizon and some other phone providers give you the option to purchase a stand-alone mobile hot spot. But if you want to ignore my advice and shop on public Wi-Fi anyway then you can use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) like Private internet Access or Freedome, which obscures and protects web traffic and makes for more secure shopping.

2. Create unique usernames and passwords

Shutterstock

Shutterstock

Dude, stop using the same password for all your accounts! Seriously, if you’re using the same password for everything then you’re just inviting a security breach, which can really cost you ($$$). Some may suggest to use a random string of words, letters or numbers. It’s definitely better to make your password unique and not something your friend can guess because who knows how much of a friend that person really is. And you may have over a dozen accounts, how in the world will you keep track of all these different passwords? That’s why I’m sure some people are just lazy and go with one password for everything. But don’t be lazy! Being careful can save you a fortune (literally). But keeping track of your passwords can be hard, so, it’d be smart if you use a password manager like LastPass (totally free) or 1Password (free for first 30 days). Or if you can just write down your passwords the old-fashioned way and put it in a secure place then that would be just great. But make sure you don’t lose that piece of paper and also be careful that it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. The consequences can be disastrous.

3. Monitor your bank account

Shutterstock

Shutterstock

Obviously, a lot of people are making a lot of purchases around this time of year. So, you should seriously be on the lookout for anyone trying to steal from your account (since you’re purchasing so much, you might overlook a thief). “A lot of theft that occurs goes unnoticed, and once it is noticed often the goods and services have been delivered,” said Marc Boroditsky, vice president at security app Authy. According to Boroditsky, you’re better off turning on your notifications, so that you’ll receive an alert at every purchase made. Vendor sites like Amazon gives the option of receiving text message notifications on every purchase as well as updates on shipping status. These notifications may seem annoying, but you’ll be seriously thanking this service when and if you ever stop someone from stealing money from your bank account.

4. Use two-step authentication

Shutterstock

Shutterstock

Almost every e-mail client out there gives you the option to pick two-step authentication. You’ll have to sign in with your username and password as you normally do, but you’ll also need a verification code. You can access this code through a separate device like your phone. You should check if retailers have this option when you go shopping online for plenty of great sales on Cyber Monday. Amazon and Etsy do offer two factor authentication, so if you use these sites then you’re in luck. But still, check out TwoFactorAuth.org to find out if the store you’re purchasing from uses two-step authentication as well. This will make sure that no one but you is using your card to shop on Cyber Monday.

5. Be aware of links

Shutterstock

Shutterstock

Some links can very misleading and will try to rip you off by mimicking a shopping web site that you’re familiar with. According to RiskIQ, thousands of fraudulent apps and deceptive landing pages put many shoppers at risk at being hacked and ripped off. If the shopping web site is designed poorly, you should get off immediately because there’s a good chance that it’s a scam site! Make sure you’re actually on the store’s web site, check the URL. Make sure the URL begins with HTTPS, and look for a lock symbol next to the web address (this will tell you if the page is encrypted). Make sure those promotional e-mails that advertise deals actually link back with the company they claim to be (for example: info@target.com rather than info@target.co or info@targetcustomerservice.com).

Make sure to only download apps from the official Google  or Apple app stores, and research those apps well before you decide to download (and remember to double check). According to RiskIQ, 85 applications had infected users with malware, so be sure to download your apps from a source that is verified and one that you can trust. But be aware of the tricksters, as last year, nearly one million blacklisted apps disguised themselves as one of the top five e-commerce brands in their app titles or descriptions as a means of luring and tricking their victims. Nearly 30% of shopping is expected to be on mobile devices. So, if you’re planning on shopping with your phone, be cautious!

Be safe and shop well!

Two Marshall University students are facing drug charges after four pounds of marijuana were shipped to their home, the former Pi Kappa Phi fraternity house.

Andrew Gifford, 23, and Eric Nguyen, 19, were arrested shortly after the package was delivered to the fraternity house on the 1400 block of 5th Avenue in Huntington, West Virginia.

According to criminal complaints from the Cabell County Magistrate Court, Gifford, who signed for the package using the false identity ‘Taylor Smidt,’ is accused of then taking the package to an upstairs bedroom before police executed a search warrant on the house.

Via Herald-Dispatch:

Police found high-grade marijuana, digital scales and several thousand dollars among Nguyen’s bedroom, the room in which Gifford was found, and among Gifford’s personal items. The search led police to then raid Gifford’s apartment in the 1300 block of 5th Avenue, finding more than 12 grams of marijuana in baggies and glass jars.

Police concluded Nguyen and Gifford had been stashing and selling marijuana from both locations, complaints state.

Both claimed to be Marshall University students when arraigned before Cabell County Magistrate Judge Dan Goheen, though the university has not confirmed. If so, the two may face university sanctions in addition to criminal charges, according to a university release.

Nguyen faces charges of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, while Gifford is charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute and conspiracy.

Both are being held at Western Regional Jail, with Nguyen’s bond being set at $100,000 and Gifford’s bond at $125,000.

Pi Kappa Phi is no longer recognized by the university. Fraternity members voted this past April to surrender its charter to the national body. The house, which is not owned by Marshall University,  will be shut down because of numerous safety issues and code violations.

Week 13, College Football Picks 2017: Spread & Predictions

Before the crescendo of college football commences with Conference Championship contests, there is still the final week of the regular season to get through and digest before then. For fans and pundits alike, this final week has it all. Rivalry matchups, programs fighting for bowl eligibility and of course highly-touted programs fighting for a Playoff spot will be the thrilling makeup of this highly-anticipated holiday weekend. One way or another, several teams will win gloriously and garner themselves favorable postseason berths while an equal number of programs will be left devastated as they lose thrilling contests against their hated rivals. What will the College Football Playoff landscape look like after this week? Let’s see which programs have what it takes to seal the deal.

South Florida Bulls vs. Central Florida Knights (15)

Normally, the Bulls would be overjoyed to have one loss on their record going into the final weekend of the regular season. However, when you have to face an undefeated Knights program at the end of the season, the lone loss on your resume becomes something to protect rather than celebrate. While Bulls quarterback Quinton Flowers is wildly inaccurate as a passer (53.5 CMP%), his off-charts athletic abilities allow him to extend plays while stealing massive chunks of yardage when there is a wide-open rushing lane. However, the Knights have prided themselves on being one of the best defenses in the country (20.5 PAPG) while quarterback McKenzie Milton is both accurate (69.6 CMP%) and mobile in the Knights highly efficient offense. Although the Bulls have the athletes to make this contest fairly interesting, the Knights have better playmakers and are much more fundamentally sound than their in-state rivals.

Final Score: Bulls 21 Knights 30 Spread: UCF -10.0

Virginia Tech Hokies (25) vs. Virginia Cavaliers

Although the Hokies have suffered their fair share of tough losses, its been Virginia Tech’s tough-minded defense that has kept them in every game this season (14.7 PAPG). While Freshman quarterback Josh Jackson has been fairly inconsistent this season as a passer (59.9 CMP%), he has flashed moments of being a fearless rusher, something that will serve him well as he continues to develop. Despite their 6-5 record, the Cavaliers have been electric when quarterback Kurt Benkert is slinging the football efficiently and he was instrumental in keeping his team competitive against the opportunistic defense of the Miami Hurricanes. This will be an intense and close matchup throughout, but Virginia Tech’s stingy defense combined with the athleticism of Jackson gives the road warrior Hokies the slight edge in this contest.

Final Score: Hokies 26 Cavaliers 23 Spread: Virginia Tech -7.0

Duke Blue Devils vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons

It’s been a turbulent season for the Blue Devils. After winning their first four contests of the season, Duke lost six games in a row (five of the six losses were by seven points or less). However, the resilient Blue Devils were relentless on both offense and defense in their recent win over the fast-paced triple-option attack of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. While the essential victory was impressive, the Blue Devils will need to alter their game plan defensively to keep the Demon Deacons quarterback John Wolford (23 touchdowns, four interceptions) and Wake Forest’s potent run-pass option attack in check. Offensively, the Blue Devils will need to replicate their performance against Georgia Tech as the Demon Deacons are susceptible to giving up big plays to speedy running backs on the edges. Blue Devils quarterback Daniel Jones will also need to be at his best as Wake Forest has a ferocious defensive line but are decidedly weaker when it comes to their secondary, particularly at the cornerback position. It won’t be easy, but the Blue Devils will be fighting for bowl eligibility and have the versatile offense to keep the Demon Deacons defense off-balance.

Final Score: Blue Devils 30 Demon Deacons 27 Spread: Wake Forest -12.0

Louisville Cardinals vs. Kentucky Wildcats

Assuming Lamar Jackson declares for the NFL Draft this year, the Cardinals will most likely be irrelevant next year without their big-play quarterback. Until then, Louisville will have its dynamic playmaker for at least a couple of more games and will need every bit of Jackson’s unrivaled athleticism to take out the well-rounded Wildcats (Jackson has rushed for 17 touchdowns this season). Although the Wildcats may not possess a versatile playmaker like Jackson on their roster, they do have an underrated running back in Benny Snell Jr., who has effectively used his immense strength to get into the end zone time after time (16 rushing touchdowns). At quarterback, the Wildcats have a disciplined albeit fairly average quarterback in Stephen Johnson (62.1 CMP%) who is fairly athletic in his own right but pales in comparison to what Jackson can do on a regular basis. While the Cardinals have a below average defense and will most likely give up a plethora of touchdowns, Jackson will do what he has done all season and carry his team to an impressive victory on the road.

Final Score: Cardinals 41 Wildcats 37 Spread: Louisville -10.0

Ohio State Buckeyes (9) vs. Michigan Wolverines

The moment quarterback Brandon Peters was knocked out in the Wolverines eventual loss to Wisconsin last week, it became apparent that as great as their defense is, this program cannot win meaningful games without continuity at the quarterback position. While the Buckeyes have had glaring issues with their passer J.T. Barret, his experience, and big-play ability have allowed him to be successful more often than not. On top of that, the Buckeyes have one of best rushing games in the country led by J.K. Dobbins (7.3 yards per rush attempt) and Mike Weber (6.8 rushing yards per attempt). While the Wolverines running back Karan Higdon has performed well in his own right (6.4 yards per rush attempt, 10 rushing touchdowns), the fact that Michigan lacks depth at the running back position coupled with the notion that there is a massive question mark at the quarterback position will ultimately do them in against a much more talented Buckeyes program.

Final Score: Buckeyes 29 Wolverines 17 Spread: Ohio State -12.0

Alabama Crimson Tide (1) vs. Auburn Tigers (6)

Easily the best matchup of the weekend if not the best of the year has the elite Crimson Tide facing a resurgent Tigers program that has recently found its footing offensively. While the combination of Crimson Tide running backs Damien Harris (8.2 yards per rushing attempt) and Bo Scarbrough (4.9 yards per rushing attempt) has been deadly, the overall athletic ability of quarterback Jalen Hurts (5.8 yards per rushing attempt) has forced opposing defenses to sell out on stopping the run, allowing Hurts to sling the ball downfield to wide receiver Calvin Ridley (16.5 yards per receptions). However, the Tigers are armed with a physical and dynamic back in Kerryon Johnson (18 total touchdowns) while quarterback Jarrett Stidham has been locked in as of late (has not completed less than 67% of his passes in his last four games). While the defenses of both the Crimson Tide (10.2 PAPG) and the Tigers (16.6 PAPG) will keep both prolific offenses in check, I see the red-hot Stidham making just enough plays with his arm to pull off a thrilling victory at home.

Final Score: Crimson Tide 27 Tigers 29 Spread: Alabama -4.5

Boise State Broncos (23) vs. Fresno State Bulldogs

A Mountain West contest that will largely go unnoticed due to the intense matchups between Power 5 Conference opponents, the efficient offense of the Broncos (34.8 PPG) will go to battle against the equally potent defense of the Bulldogs (17.3 PAPG). Broncos quarterback Brett Rypien has been a confident pocket passer throughout the season (63.9 CMP%) while running back Alexander Mattison (5.3 yards per rushing attempt, 13 total touchdowns) has done more than his fair share of work as both a rusher and receiver. Similarly, Bulldogs quarterback Marcus McMaryion has also been well-disciplined as a passer(12 touchdowns, three interceptions), but has the mobility to extend plays, which is essential considering Fresno State lacks a strong rushing game. Although the Bulldogs have the defense and passing game to be consistently competitive, the Broncos simply have more firepower on the offensive end, which will persevere down the stretch in what should be a very close contest.

Spread: Broncos 28 Bulldogs 24 Spread: Boise State -7.0

Clemson Tigers (3) vs. South Carolina Gamecocks (24)

Although it has been a bit of shaky road for the Tigers in their victories since they lost to Syracuse, Clemson’s defensive front in conjunction with the vigilance and rushing capabilities of quarterback Kelly Bryant (10 rushing touchdowns) has allowed this program to win nevertheless. However, the now ranked Gamecocks will be insanely motivated to spoil Clemson’s Playoff aspirations as their suffocating defense (19.6 PAPG) has been incredible throughout the season even in losses. While quarterback Jake Bentley does not have much to offer in terms of scoring (15 touchdowns, nine interceptions) he at least has a reliable wideout in in Bryan Edwards (12 yards per reception) who can bail him out of some sticky situations. In the end, Clemson is clearly more talented and has an elite defense that should not have any trouble in rattling Bentley and this inconsistent Gamecocks offense.

Final Score: Tigers 33 Gamecocks 20 Spread: Clemson -14.0

Notre Dame Fighting Irish (8) vs. Stanford Cardinal (21)

While it would be far-fetched to say that since losing to Miami Notre Dame’s offense is completely ineffective, it would be negligent to not acknowledge their lack of potency in recent weeks. Against one of the worst defenses in college football, Notre Dame was only able to score 24 points and rushed for just one touchdown in a nail-biter. What’s worse for the Fighting Irish is the fact that they now have to compete against Stanford’s resilient defense (20.7 PAPG) while having to shut down one of the most proficient rushers in the country in Bryce Love (8.8 yards per rushing attempt, 16 rushing touchdowns). With that being said, Notre Dame also has a formidable defensive line (20.4 PAPG), which will provide the stopping power to at least slow Love down. While neither team is great at passing the football, the Cardinal’s defense is slightly better and their running game has been much more effective against strong defenses recently.

Final Score: Fighting Irish 24 Cardinal 30 Spread: Notre Dame -2.5

Washington State Cougars (13) vs. Washington Huskies (17)

As fantastic as the Iron Bowl could potentially be this year, the Apple Cup rivalry match between the Cougars and the Huskies will not be far behind in terms of intrigue. With a relentless passing attack led by Luke Falk (66.8 CMP%), the Cougars are not particularly deceptive offensively but have the personnel and experience to execute their game plan effectively with impressive results. Conversely, the Huskies are reliant on a combination of quarterback Jake Browning (69.1 CMP%) and running back Myles Gaskin (six yards per rushing attempt, 18 total touchdowns) to score consistently. Ultimately, the difference in this contest will be which team can hold off the offense of the other, as the Cougars (22.9 PAPG) and Huskies (14.5 PAPG) are both sound defensive programs. Given the versatility of the Huskies offense combined with their superior defense, they should be able to overcome the high-flying yet predictable passing game of the energetic Cougars.

Final Score: Cougars 31 Huskies 34 Spread: Washington -10.0

Sexual Assault On Campus: Understanding The Issue With Collegiate Sexual Assault

$

Is there a rape culture on campus? Some say that rape culture is normalized across colleges, while others think the idea is merely a myth. But a new study by Yellowbrick, a national psychiatric center, sheds some broader light on the subject of sexual assault on college campuses. The group surveyed 1,000 current college students to better understand the issue of sexual assault on campus.

What Did The Study Reveal?

Yellowbrick discovered that 58% of those surveyed claimed to know someone who had been sexually assaulted. Female students are 25% more likely to know someone who had been sexually assaulted. A whopping 87% of respondents claim that sexual assault is considered common to very common. Meanwhile, only 4 percent of those surveyed reported that sexual assault is “not common.” On the contrary, 18% of those surveyed ranked sexual assault as “very common” on campus.

According to the study, if you’re involved with Greek Life, you’re twice as likely to be sexually assaulted. The survey concludes that 29% of those involved in Greek Life report to have been sexually assaulted on campus. Meanwhile, 79% of students who participate in Greek Life claim that they know someone who had been sexually assaulted.

On the contrary, 77% of those surveyed reportedly feel either safe or very safe from sexual assault on campus. Of those surveyed, 90% of males report feeling safe from sexual assault on campus, while 70% of females feel the same way. However, 86% of respondents believe that the topic of sexual assault deserves greater attention on campus.

Out of the 1,000 students surveyed for the study, only 14% claim to have been sexually assaulted. Three out of the four respondents who say they were sexually assaulted are women. However, only 44% of the alleged sexual assault victims have reported the attack. This may have something to do with only 35% of female participants trusting their university’s sexual assault procedures. Only 39% of overall participants believe that universities effectively support students affected by sexual assault, compared with the 6% who felt that their university addresses the issue of sexual assault “very well.”

Here’s A Study Looking At Sexual Harassment In College

Shutterstock

A study, first revealed in The Irish Examiner, reports a rise in sexual harassment as a student progresses through college. A total of 400 students took part in the Smart Consent Survey. The study concluded that 70% of respondents report experiencing unwanted sexual attention, along with sexist and sexual hostility during their third year. Out of those surveyed, 39% of participants claim to have experienced sexual coercion and 36% say they were the subject of electronic sexual harassment.

The Smart Consent Survey concluded that reported experiences of sexual coercion, unwanted sexual attention, sexist hostility, sexual hostility and online sexual harassment increased as female students advance from their first year to their third year in college. Male students followed the same sequence, although to a much lower extent. The male students surveyed reported less online sexual harassment during their third year. Online sexual harassment is the only category that went down for males in the third year.

Statistics On Reporting Collegiate Sexual Assault

Shutterstock

In 2014, 91% of colleges in the U.S. reported zero incidents of rape, according to American Association of University Women (AAUW) . Meanwhile, in 2015, 89% of American colleges reported zero campus-related rapes, also according to the AAUW which surveyed the data by schools to the U.S. Department of Education. “When campus environments are hostile because of sexual harassment and violence, students can’t learn. It’s that simple and it’s that devastating. Schools have an important and necessary role to play in addressing this epidemic,” said AAUW Vice President of Government Relations Lisa Maatz.

Regarding the latest Yellowbrick study, only 44% of those claiming to be sexual assault victims reported the attack. This means that 56% of those claiming to have been sexually assaulted did not report the crime to authorities.

According to RAINN, only 20% of female college students (aged 18-24) who are victims of sexual assault actually report the crime to law enforcement.

What is Rape Culture?

Shutterstock

Rape culture is a sociological concept, arguing that based on societal attitudes towards sexuality and gender, rape has become normalized and pervasive within a certain setting or community.

This concept can be applied to prison rape, war-related sexual assault, and the societal response to rape and rape victims. There are many behavioral patterns connected with rape culture, including, but not limited to victim blaming, slut shaming, sexual objectification, trivializing rape, denial of widespread rape, and denying the harm caused by some forms of sexual violence.

This Hilarious iPhone X Parody Is Spot On

If you haven’t already seen or heard (because I’m sure your friends have been Snapchatting it, just like mine), the iPhone X is here.

I am a major anti-Apple guy. And while I indulge in their products (because I’m not a poor Android user), I try and stay woke to all the bullshit they try and sneak past us.

While the iPhone X certainly is a marvelous piece of technology, some of its most advanced new features are a little, uh, concerning, to say the least — namely, the whole face-scanning feature.

Sure, the new facial recognition may be more “convenient” than punching in a 4-digit pin, but at what cost are we willing to pay for convenience? Call me a little too woke on this one, but back when Apple introduced the fingerprint scanner on the iPhone, my first thought was “Great, now Apple knows who exactly is using their product and where exactly they are” and now that concern has been doubled.

And whoever made this hilarious parody seemed to agree as they likened the new iPhone X to the soul-sucking dementor from Harry Potter.

Am I going to eventually cop this iPhone X? Of course, what do I look like, a neanderthal? But am I also quite uncomfortable with how much their technology is increasingly reliant om personal identification? Very much so.

Week 12, Fantasy Football Start ‘Em 2017: Who To Start This Week

DETROIT, MI – DECEMBER 02: Corey Davis #84 of the Western Michigan Broncos runs for a first half touchdown past Toran Davis #24 of the Ohio Bobcats in the MAC Championship on December 2, 2016 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)

Bye weeks are over! While this notion will certainly be beneficial to fantasy owners with the playoffs coming up, it is still as essential as ever to ensure that you have a complete roster at your disposable. Even without off weeks to contend with, their are still untimely injuries and questionable coaching decisions to deal with as NFL teams try to remain competitive down the stretch. With the passing of the trade deadline for most leagues, owners will now have to exclusively use the waiver wire to make any required alterations necessary to win week after week. While the end is in sight for fantasy playoff contenders, this is the time to stave of complacency and instead be particularly vigilant as every decision can be the difference between just making the playoffs or being forced to compete in the dreaded consolation bracket.

Andy Dalton, QB, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. Cleveland Browns)

While the woeful Browns have a solid run defense, their secondary has been much weaker as they have given up the seventh-most points to opposing quarterbacks. Considering how well Andy Dalton performed against a much stronger Broncos secondary, it’s safe to assume that the red rifle could produce a similar if not better point total by the end of the game. Throwing for nine touchdowns and two interceptions in his last five games, Dalton has been much more disciplined at throwing the football compared to how careless he was at the start of the season (threw six interceptions in his first five starts of the season). While he may not be the most accurate passer in the NFL (61.8 CMP%), Dalton has the weapons to pick apart the Browns at home.

Christian McCaffrey, RB, Carolina Panthers (vs. New York Jets)

Scoring five touchdowns in his last six games, McCaffrey looks to be an enticing late bloomer in a Panthers offense that has been much more efficient in recent weeks. While McCaffrey has been reliable as a receiving target throughout the season (7.6 yards per reception, three touchdowns), he has been able to the make the most out of his limited rushing opportunities in his last two games (4.4 and 4.6 yards per rush attempt and two rushing touchdowns in last two contests). Assuming McCaffrey can be this dynamic against the Jets’ tenth-worst rush defense (have also allowed fourth-most passing touchdowns), he should have no problem producing at a high level again.

Corey Davis, WR, Tennessee Titans (vs. Indianapolis Colts).

At some point, Corey Davis going to explode as a highly-talented wideout. Against a Colts defense that is 30th in the NFL in receiving yards allowed, Davis should finally be able to convert his high-volume target shares into big point totals. Since November 5th, Davis has garnered target totals of 5, 10 and 7, none of which have been converted into touchdown scores. However, when you consider that Davis has only played in five games this season, the fact that quarterback Marcus Mariota is this keen on throwing several passes his way should tell everything you need to know about Davis’ potential.

Vernon Davis, TE, Washington Redskins (vs. New York Giants)

During the last three weeks, Davis has had no less than six targets come his way and has had at least 67 receiving yards in those contests. While he has only caught one touchdown pass this season, he may get a chance to catch at least one more against a Giants defense that has relinquished the most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. On top of that, Davis has averaged no less than 10 yards per reception the entire season, meaning that he can score big points in PPR leagues even without a touchdown reception. Assuming Jordan Reed is still not 100%, Davis will once again get a large target share and should have his most productive outing of the season against the Giants.

Ruby Riot burst onto the scene of WWE SmackDown Live last night and attacked several top athletes. She arrived alongside Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan. Together, they laid out both Becky Lynch and Naomi backstage. Later that night, the villainous trio interrupted a championship match between Charlotte Flair and Natalya. They viciously assaulted both women and stood tall over the fallen champion in the ring.

Riot’s real name is Dori Prange. She was born on January 9, 1991, in Edwardsburg, Michigan. Before she made it to the WWE, Prange was infamous on the independent wrestling scene as Heidi Lovelace. She’s held multiple championships throughout her career, including the OVW Women’s Championship, AIW Women’s Championship, AAW Heritage Championship, and the Shimmer Tag Team Championship.

In 2016, she was ranked number 20 among the top 50 best female wrestlers of the year by Pro Wrestling Illustrated.

Prange made the transition from the indie scene to the big leagues in January 2017, as WWE signed her onto their global wrestling/entertainment brand. She officially made her televised NXT/WWE debut under the name “Ruby Riot” on the March 22 episode of NXT.

Ruby Riot quickly transitioned from the farm territory of NXT to the globally-recognized brand of WWE SmackDown Live. Less than a year after her NXT debut, Riot and her two partners-in-crime (Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan) sent shock waves all throughout the women’s division of the blue brand. Here’s a look at Riot’s official WWE debut from the Tuesday, November 21st episode of SmackDown Live:

SmackDown‘s first taste of Ruby Riot was quite bitter for many female wrestlers of the blue brand. But for the fans, it’s a whole nother story….

WOOD TB

Delta Upsilon, a fraternity at Grand Valley State University, has been shut down for repeatedly violating drug and alcohol policies.

Delta Upsilon announced Thursday on its official website that it revoked the chapter’s charter immediately. The fraternity said it was a “difficult decision” to close the chapter, which came after a February 17 hearing with chapter delegates and the board of directors.

Delta Upsilon nationals said the Grand Valley State chapter “violated a number of Fraternity Lose Prevention Policies regarding alcohol and drugs” throughout the fall 2016 semester. Furthermore, the fraternity said chapter members had been identified in multiple reports of university policy violations during the past 18 months.

“We hold our members and chapters to a set a standards that, unfortunately, the Grand Valley State Chapter could not sustain,” executive director Justin Kirk said in Thursday’s news release posted on the fraternity’s website.

Delta Upsilon said all chapter members have been given alumni status and associate members have been released from the fraternity. The men living in the chapter’s facility near GVSU’s Allendale campus have signed individual leases with the property owner to stay for the rest of the school year.

Grand Valley State and Delta Upsilon will consider reinstating the GVSU chapter after all current members have alumni status, have graduated or left school.

Official Statement from Delta Upsilon Nationals:

Delta Upsilon closes its Grand Valley State Chapter

Effective immediately, the Delta Upsilon International Fraternity Board of Directors has revoked the charter of the Grand Valley State Chapter as the result of repeated violations of the Fraternity’s Loss Prevention Policy.
The difficult decision to close the chapter was made following a hearing between the Board of Directors and chapter delegates on Feb. 17. The Board of Directors respects the delegation’s commitment to the hearing process and the candor and honesty provided during the hearing. However, the difficult decision to close the chapter was made.

Throughout the fall 2016 semester, the chapter violated a number of Fraternity Loss Prevention Policies regarding alcohol and drugs. In addition, the Board of Directors took into consideration that the chapter and/or chapter members have been identified in multiple reports of violations of university policies over the course of the past 18 months

As a result of the charter’s revocation, all chapter operations have been ordered to cease immediately. Chapter members have been given alumni status, and all associate members have been released from the Fraternity. Those men living in the chapter facility have individual leases with the third-party owner and will be able to fulfill their leases for the remainder of the school year at the owner’s discretion.

“The decision to close a chapter is the most difficult decision the International Fraternity makes,” said Executive Director Justin Kirk. “Delta Upsilon is committed to being the premiere men’s fraternity on college campuses today. As such, we hold our members and chapters to a set a standards that, unfortunately, the Grand Valley State Chapter could not sustain.”

The International Fraternity will consider reinstatement of the Grand Valley State Chapter at a mutually agreeable date agreed upon by the Fraternity and Grand Valley State University. Such a date will be discussed once all current undergraduate students are placed on alumni status, have graduated or left school.

The University believes that a strong fraternity/sorority community contributes much to the life of the campus,” said Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, Dr. Eileen Sullivan. “Because of that, we look forward to working with the general fraternity headquarters to determine a date that we will welcome Delta Upsilon back to GVSU.”

Established on Nov. 4, 1834, Delta Upsilon is an international men’s college fraternity with 76 chapters and colonies across the United States and Canada. The Fraternity, founded at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, is the oldest, non-secret, Greek-letter society and is committed to Building Better Men for a global society through its Four Founding Principles: friendship, character, culture and justice. More than 130,000 men have joined the Delta Upsilon Fraternity since its founding more than 182 years ago.
