Otto Warmbier Laid To Rest Today In Ohio

Otto Warmbier was laid to rest today in his hometown of Wyoming, Ohio, and hundreds upon hundreds showed up to pay their final respects.

Taking place at Wyoming High School’s arts center, thousand of people showed up to the 22-year-old’s alma matter to bid him farewell.

via CNN:

Hundreds of well-wishers waited in two lines outside Wyoming High School’s arts center at least an hour before his funeral was set to begin at 9 a.m. ET in the Cincinnati suburb. The auditorium has an overflow capacity of 800 people, and there is room for several hundred more in other areas of the school.

Among the expected speakers were Warmbier’s brother, Austin, his sister, Greta, and some of his friends, according to the funeral program. Also due to attend was US Ambassador Joseph Yun, the special representative for North Korea policy, who helped secure Warmbier’s release

The front of the funeral program featured a quote from Warmbier’s salutatorian speech in 2013: “This is our season finale. This is the end of one great show, but just the beginning to hundreds of new spinoffs.”

Warmbier, the University of Virginia student who was detained in North Korea for nearly a year and a half, died on the afternoon of Monday, June 19.

Warmbier was originally sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in a North Korean labor camp for “hostile acts against the DPRK”. Upon his release, North Korean officials claimed that Otto had become ill from botulism after his March trial and slipped into a coma after taking a sleeping pill. That claim was quickly disputed by United States doctors.

Speaking at a candlelight vigil on Tuesday night,  Alex Vagonis, the college girlfriend of Otto Warmbier, called Otto her ‘soulmate’ who helped her become a better human being.

RIP Otto.

National Nude Hiking Day Photos: Must-See Pictures

Yesterday was National Nude Hiking Day which is apparently a thing and I’m disappointed I didn’t know about it. Despite a ban on the activity put in place by park authorities in Colorado, many took to the hills to celebrate because people are awesome.

Rangers had warned hikers that they could be kicked off public land and even fined if they took part in the June 21 event, but that obviously didn’t stop anyone from shedding clothes and posting photos. Thank the lord for their bravery because now we get to enjoy their hard fought efforts.

One woman showed herself at the top of Caleb Peak in Connecticut wearing little more than a backpack (respect). Her caption boldly read: “Couldn’t resist.” I might be in love.

Another group of friends in Pine Grove Furnace State Park appeared 100% in their birthday suits in front of a store. Gotta respect the balls to pull that one off (pun intended).

The photos came flooding in despite warnings from Colorado Parks and Wildlife that nude trekkers could be ticketed for indecent exposure.

A spokesman told Denver 7: “We would ask them to leave or put on clothing.”

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) said it would intervene if other park users were disturbed by the practice. BLM public affairs specialist said, “Anyone participating should remember that state and county law apply on public lands, as well.”

The U.S. should take a page out of Germany’s book as they have set up special walking trails for nudists.

In the meantime, enjoy the best photos from the day.

Tom Cruise Wouldn’t Go ‘Risky Business’ Happy Hours Cause He Was Busy Reading The Bible & Copping BJs

Warner Bros.

As Marc Jackson says on his NBA broadcasts: “Mama, there goes that man.”

Look, say what you will about his height, Scientology, and that whole couch thing, but Tom Cruise is a god damn legend. This may be a little bit of a hot take, but Tom Cruise was like Leo before Leo was. He was the premier movie star, making $20 million per movie and slaying any woman he wanted. There are few men on Earth who lived a life as sweet as peak-Tom Cruise.

But back in the day, before he committed to Scientology, Cruise just wanted everyone to believe he was a do-gooding church boy.

via Decider:

Before he was the world’s biggest movie star and the frontman for Scientology, Tom Cruise apparently spent his days on the Risky Business set turning down happy hour for “Bible reading” and getting bjs from a long line of admirers instead

Cruise apparently made “straight arrows look like corkscrews” when they weren’t shooting, and Armstrong would ask him to come out for drinks when they’d wrap each day, but Cruise would politely refuse. “Got an early call tomorrow. Got to work out still, study my lines. And then I like to read the Bible a little before bed.”

However, his co-star, Curtis Armstrong, said that couldn’t be further from the truth:

“Returning late one night, I found three or four young girls — late teens, I suspect — lined up in the hall outside of Tom’s room. I remember thinking, “Tom’s going to be really upset if these hot girls interfere with his Bible reading.” So I asked them, with all the stern gravitas of my 28 years, if there was something I could do to help them,” Armstrong writes. “They just stared at me, and at that moment, Tom’s door opened and another girl came out, adjusting her hair and taking off down the hall, while the first girl in line slipped into Tom’s room.” Armstrong laughs at his naivety now, marveling at the impressiveness at it all.

“This was a young man who knew something about time management and understood how to successfully juggle Bible study and blow jobs. I went to bed alone that night thinking it served me right for not being religious.”

I mean … OF COURSE Tom Cruise had hunnies lined up outside of his room. Risky Business came out in 1983, which puts Cruise at about 21-years-old. Could you imagine being a 21-year-old with movie star looks and money? In all honesty, I would probably end up killing myself with those resources.

NBA Mock Draft 2017: Must-See Picks & Expert Projections

0
0

Welcome to COED.com’s 2017 NBA Mock Draft! We are going to look at the 30 picks in the first round and tell you where top prospects are going to end up. Every website is doing a mock draft these days, so it is hard to be original without being outlandish. Even so, this mock draft will look at team needs, past draft history and player potential to determine who will end up where. I can’t promise that these picks will be correct, but I can promise they are well thought out. Most of them anyway.

The Picks

With their first round pick in the 2017 NBA Draft…

1. Philadelphia 76ers: Markelle Fultz, PG, Washington

Who he is: Fultz is this year’s Ben Simmons. The standout freshman put up big numbers for a non-competitive team and showed he is a force on the offensive end.

Why they’ll pick him: The 76ers traded up to this spot by giving the Boston Celtics the third pick in this year’s draft and a future first-round picks. Fultz seems to have developed a relationship with Joel Embiid and other players on the 76ers. Fultz is believed to be the best player in this year’s draft, and the 76ers know he could be a big part of their core going forward. The price to move up was not too steep, and while the 76ers could have gotten a solid player at number three, the years of acquiring draft picks and planning for the future are over. I thought the Celtics could have gotten more for the picks, but the Sixers were able to move up and are finally ready to make some noise. Consider the process trusted.

What else to do with this pick: They could be a part of a big time bait and switch and bluff the Lakers into trading up. There also could be a team a bit lower down like the Kings or the Suns who prefer Fultz and could put together a huge offer to move up to number one. However, seeing the first pick of the draft move hands once is a surprise. Seeing it move again is unlikely.

2. Los Angeles Lakers: Lonzo Ball, PG, UCLA

Instagram Photo

Who he is:  Lonzo Ball is best known for being Lavar Ball’s son. He also plays some basketball. He was the star of a turnaround UCLA team and has been compared to the GM who may draft him, Magic Johnson. Ball brings a top level understanding of the game and elite playmaking to any team that drafts him.

Why they pick him: It’s very possible that Lonzo Ball could pull an Eli Manning and refuse to play for any team other than the Lakers. While Lonzo would be an asset to any team, the Lakers are almost predetermined to take him. This is all part of Lavar’s master plan and while it may trap the Lakers a little bit, there are certainly worse players to get stuck with.

What else to do with this pick: The Lakers are flush with guards and a few huge veteran contracts. If they want to make a splash in free agency they need to clear some cap while also keeping some competitive pieces. If they trade down and take a position of need like a forward, they may be better positioned to make a move this summer in free agency. I do not really see this happening, but do not be surprised if Magic wants to avoid any Ball related distractions and trades down or takes somebody else (Josh Jackson or Jayson Tatum.)

 3. Boston Celtics: Jayson Tatum, SF, Duke

Instagram Photo

Who he is: Another year, another Duke Freshman in the lottery. Tatum was the third-ranked recruit out of high school in 2016, and while he started the season slowly, he really showed his offensive prowess at the end of the season. He became the go-to option for a loaded Duke team and averaged close to 17 points on the season.

Why they’ll pick him: The Celtics traded down two spots with the 76ers and acquired a future first-round pick in the process. Clearly, they realized that they did not need Markelle Fultz to add to their crowded backcourt, and instead will address another need. Last year’s lottery pick, Jaylen Brown, came on at the end of the season and should continue to develop as a solid wing defender with a big of athleticism. Tatum could be the other wing that provides more of a scoring punch. He could play small-ball four if he needed to, or he could provide solid scoring off the bench. Whatever the Celtics decide, Tatum would be another solid weapon.

What else to do with this pick: If not Tatum, Josh Jackson makes a great deal of sense here. He is more limited on the offensive end but could help out on defense against a team like the Cavaliers. The Celtics could also trade down even further as they acquire assets for this year and the future. The Celtics are in a unique position, but trading out of the first spot came as a surprise to me. It shows a commitment to Isaiah Thomas in the backcourt as well as a trust in the depth of this draft.

 4. Phoenix Suns: Josh Jackson, SF, Kansas

Instagram Photo

Who he is: While Kansas had a senior win the Wooden Award in 2017, Josh Jackson is the freshman that all the lottery teams want. In this new NBA, Jackson’s athleticism, defensive effort and ability to play above the rim appeals to every team. He may not be a polished scorer on the offensive end, but you can always teach scoring. Natural athleticism is harder to teach.

Why they pick him: Of the teams in the lottery who actually belong there (sorry Celtics) the Suns probably have the most young talent on their team. Between Brandon Knight, Eric Bledsoe and 70 point Devin, the Suns have some great young talent. Unfortunately for them, all three of those players occupy very similar roles and are not lockdown defenders. Jackson will help the Suns dominate on the wing, and his athleticism will allow them to play small and keep their talented guards on the court.

What else to do with this pick: Another athletic point guard does not make a ton of sense, but De’Aaron Fox should still be available here and if Bledsoe or Knight is going to be traded, Fox could make sense. Jonathan Isaac could occupy the same role as Jackson if the Suns prefer him, or they could look to add some rim protection and try to move Tyson Chandley and his contract. The Suns do have the assets to move up if they want a distributing guard like Lonzo Ball, but the teams ahead of them will likely ask for a big haul.

5. Sacramento Kings: De’Aaron Fox, PG, Kentucky

Instagram Photo

Who he is: Fox makes up one-half of Kentucky’s talented backcourt from the past season. Fox’s biggest moment of the season came when he dropped 39 against Lonzo Ball and UCLA in the NCAA tournament. Fox is the most athletic guard in this draft class and will produce on both ends of the court.

Why they’ll pick him: The Kings have a below average roster on paper, and they got rid of Demarcus Cousins in hopes of turning a corner as a franchise. While the Kings may have gotten fleeced when they got rid of Cousins, they can now look for a new franchise identity and direction. Picking Fox would take the best player available while also filling a position of need. Putting Fox next to Buddy Hield in the backcourt could yield some interesting results.

What else to do with this pick: The Kings do have a bunch of holes in their roster, but they do have two top ten picks to try and fill these holes. They could trade up in hopes of snagging a better player, or trade down do accumulate more picks. I suggest the latter.

6. Orlando Magic: Malik Monk, SG, Kentucky

Instagram Photo

Who he is: The sharp-shooting freshman out of Kentucky scored 47 in an early season game against UNC. Monk is athletic and a deadeye (39.7% from 3). He will rapidly add offensive punch to any team that drafts him.

Why they’ll pick him: The Magic are desperate for offense after finishing 27th in the league in points per game. Without a real face of the franchise or any dangerous scorers, Monk would fill a big need. He does not project to be the best player on a great team, but he certainly could be the best player on a bad team.

What else to do with this pick: Like the Kings, the Magic have recently not gotten their fair share in some trades. The Magic have a bunch of holes to fill, and not enough cap room. They could trade back for more picks, but then they would just be adding more average players to try to improve a bad roster. Trades have not worked well for the Magic, so a high potential pick like Jonathan Isaac could be the answer if Monk is not around.

7. Minnesota Timberwolves: Zach Collins, C, Gonzaga

Instagram Photo

Who he is: The freshman big man from Gonzaga did not play much as a freshman, but he put people on notice when he did. He only averaged 17.3 minutes a game, but still averaged 10 points and 1.8 blocks in that time. His per 36-minute stats jump off the page

Why they’ll pick him: The Timberwolves have some of the best young players in the league in Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns. The problem is their defense. They allowed opponents to shoot 47.5% against them last season, third worst in the league. Collins is not a flashy pick and will not add to the hype, but could help coach Tom Thibodeau establish a defensive identity and a toughness they did not have in his first year.

What else to do with this pick: The Timberwolves are not good at picking in the lottery. Names like Jonny Flynn, Wesley Johnson and Derrick Williams should make Timberwolves fans uneasy. The Timberwolves could draft yet another point guard if they want with Dennis Smith Jr. or another athletic wing like Jonathan Isaac. Whatever they decide to do, they will probably enter next year predicted to break out, then fail to do so.

 8. New York Knicks: Dennis Smith Jr. PG, NC State

Instagram Photo

Who he is: The super-fast super-athletic point guard who could be the Knicks’ guard in shining armor.

Why they’ll pick him: The Knicks have struggled to find a point guard for years now. After Derrick Rose got injured again, they find themselves in a similar situation. The Knicks should be giddy if Smith falls to them, and should not pass up the chance to draft him. Knowing the Knicks, however, they will probably draft a point guard from Armenia because he can promise to play the triangle offense.

What else to do with this pick: Maybe the Knicks can move this pick along with Carmelo Anthony to move up and take a guard like Fox. Maybe they can move Anthony for a pick later in the first and try to rebuild that way. Maybe they can move Anthony for the ghost of Latrell Sprewell. Whatever the Knicks do, they need to stop wasting the Kristaps Porzingis prime. The Zinger may not have much longer.

 9. Dallas Mavericks: Lauri Markkanen, PF, Arizona

Instagram Photo

Who he is: A carbon copy of Dirk Nowitzki with a slightly harder to spell last name. Obviously, Markkanen is a unique individual with his own special perks and idiosyncrasies, but when you are 7 feet tall, from Europe and shoot 42% from three, the Dirk comparisons are bound to happen.

Why they’ll pick him: What better way to replace a hall of fame than with a carbon copy of him. It’s possible Markkanen could be a bust and nothing like Nowitzki. But he does fill a need and could develop until Dirk retires.

What else to do with this pick: Dallas also needs a point guard, but with the top tier guards gone at this point, their best option is Frank Ntilikina from France. Ntilikina is a bit of an unknown, so the Mavs may want to play it safer while also filling a position of need.

 10. Sacramento Kings: Jonathan Isaac, SF, Florida State

Instagram Photo

Who he is: Isaac is a long and athletic small forward whose projections far outdo his on the court numbers. Isaac was productive but not dominant in his only season in college, but his athletic 6’11” frame and 34% shooting is a perfect fit for today’s NBA

Why they’ll pick him: Like I said before, the Kings need pieces to help rebuild their team. Isaac could be a capable replacement for Rudy Gay and would pair very nicely if the Kings also pick up De’Aaron Fox earlier in the draft.

What else to do with this pick: This pick could be coupled with a veteran (Tyreke Evans, Rudy Gay) to try to move up, but the Kings are in a good spot here, and if Isaac falls to them they should be thrilled. If he does not, rim protection should be a priority if Willie Cauley-Stein cannot be relied upon.

11. Charlotte Hornets: Jarrett Allen, C, Texas

Instagram Photo

Who he is: A tall man with even longer arms. He moves well for a five and should continue to grow into his body.

Why they’ll pick him: The Hornet need some rim protection or at the very least, some depth up front. Cody Zeller has never been known as much of a defensive stopper, and the Hornets could use another body to help out in the paint. He also could run the pick and roll with Kemba Walker and offer more of a threat than the Hornets currently have.

What else to do with this pick: The Hornets are also in need of some outside shooting. This may be a little too early for Luke Kennard, and somebody like Lauri Markkanen is probably gone at this point. Trading up or down to target either player could be an option.

12. Detroit Pistons: Frank Ntilikina, PG, France

Who he is: A talented pro from France, but is relatively unknown and unproven to NBA teams.

Why they’ll pick him:  Ntilikina offers some depth at point guard, and he could even take over for Reggie Jackson if the team wants to move him. While Ntilikina is an unknown, the Pistons should risk it at a position that will help them in the long run.

What else to do with this pick: The Pistons are paying a lot of money for an average team. The Pistons could draft from a number of players here to try to get younger and cheaper. Shooting guard may need to be replaced if Kentavious Caldwell- Pope leaves in free agency, and depth up front and on the wing is important. The Pistons are in a tough spot, and unless they move a big contract, they will likely dwell in NBA purgatory with a fine but unspectacular roster.

13. Denver Nuggets: Justin Jackson, SF, UNC

Instagram Photo

Who he is: Believe it or not, Jackson is the first upperclassman I have coming off the board. Jackson was a three-year contributor for the Tar Heels and a prime example of improving over his years in college. This past season he led UNC to a national championship while also winning ACC player of the year.

Why they’ll pick him: The Nuggets are young and have talent, and should try to add experienced depth on the outside. Jackson adds strong outside shooting with good passing ability. He has played in all the big moments and is not afraid to take the big shot. For a team whose best player is a big man from Serbia, Jackson could be the locker room leader and bench contributor to make the Nuggets tougher.

What else to do with this pick: More depth up front could never hurt, especially if Giles is still on the board. His defense could really help shore up a starting lineup that is mostly scoring focused. Moving this pick for a proven veteran wing defender could also be a good idea since this team is already very young.

14. Miami Heat: John Collins, PF, Wake Forest

Instagram Photo

Who he is: Another big man, but Collins makes his living on offense. He practices good footwork around the rim and has a solid mid-range jump shot. Defense is not great, but his numbers are. Hopefully, the numbers translate as he learns the NBA game.

Why they’ll pick him: Now that the Chris Bosh era is over in Miami (a sad ending I will say) the Heat should confidently search for a new frontcourt player to pair with cornerstone Hassan Whiteside. Collins will pair nicely next to Whiteside, and adds more of a mid-range game to Miami’s front court. Miami does have James Johnson coming off a career year, but if the price on him is too high, they should feel confident moving forward with Collins.

What else to do with this pick: The Heat were surprised two years ago when Justice Winslow fell to them in the middle of the first round. They way this mock is shaping up, it looks like another Duke prospect, Harry Giles, may do the same. Giles has the injury trouble, but may be worth the risk for the Heat. Pat Riley never loved to build through the draft, so if Giles does not pan out, he can still go out and sign Blake Griffin, Klay Thompson, and Russell Westbrook (heard it here first).

15. Portland Trail Blazers: Harry Giles, PF, Duke

Instagram Photo

Who he is: Giles was the top recruit in 2016 despite tearing his ACL twice in high school. Giles missed the first few games of the season, and never really got into any sort of groove. Any team that selects him will be projected based on his high school days and hope that he can return to health.

Why they’ll pick him: This could end up being the steal of the draft. It’s not like Giles forgot how to play basketball. Players are number one recruits for a reason. Yes, his injury and surgery history is troubling, but it could work in Portland’s favor. They have had young talents (Greg Oden, Brandon Roy) go down with career altering injuries. Maybe the Blazers will reverse jinx themselves, and Giles will play for 15 years and never miss a game.

What else to do with this pick: Including this pick, the Blazers have three first round picks (15, 20, 26). None of those carry a significant amount of capital, but there should be some solid depth players picked in this range. Could the Blazers move a combination of these picks and other assets to move up in the draft? Could three of these picks plus another asset get them a player like Kevin Love? Portland has a variety of options to look at.

16. Chicago Bulls: Luke Kennard, SG, Duke

Instagram Photo

Who he is: While Grayson Allen was projected to be the face of Duke this past season, Kennard turned out to be the best guard on the team. While Kennard cooled off as the season went along, he was still productive the whole year and projects as a knockdown shooter and sparkplug for the offense.

Why they’ll pick him: Dwayne Wade is not the answer long-term, especially at his current price tag. If the Bulls are keen on moving forward with Jimmy Butler as their main cog, they are going to need to put some more offense around him. Kennard can handle the ball a little bit, but mostly he will be running around screens looking to get off a deep shot. He is more than just a long-range shooter, but his best asset to the Bulls will be an ability to space the floor.

What else to do with this pick: The Bulls also make no sense. After some big free-agent splashes last year, the Bulls were very average. Granted, those free-agent splashes were a bit long in the tooth and not outside shooters, but still. The Bulls need to get younger and better at shooting quickly, or Butler may want to take his prime elsewhere. The pick is not high enough to trade on its own, but Butler may be able to move them into the top three. If they so desire.

 17. Milwaukee Bucks: OG Anunoby, SF, Indiana

Instagram Photo

Who he is: A rangy athletic defender, but a lack of offensive polish and injuries knock him out of the lottery. Anunoby has the build and defensive ability to play at the next level, but he has not lived up to the hype. The hype was pretty high, though.

Why they’ll pick him: Because he fits everything the Bucks are as a team perfectly. No, Anunoby does not have much of an offensive game, but the Bucks will be content to win 75-65 with 40-15-10-5-5 from Giannis. Anunoby will be another athletic wing on a team full of them. But there are certainly worse problems to have. If Anunoby develops a three-point shot and plays above the rim on offense, he could be the steal of this draft.

What else to do with this pick: Donovan Mitchell is also a great idea here and makes it even more difficult to score on the Bucks. They could use a more capable and cheaper option at center, but do they really even need a center? A lineup of Middleton, Parker, Brogdon, Anunoby/Mitchell, Giannis could probably guard all five positions.

18. Indiana Pacers: Donovan Mitchell, SG, Louisville

Instagram Photo

Who he is: A lockdown defender with off-the-charts athleticism, Mitchell led the Louisville defense while also contributing from three-point range.

Why they’ll pick him: This is one of the easier picks in the draft. If Mitchell is still around at this point (may not be since he is a combine hero), the Pacers would gladly take him. Mitchell could take some pressure off of Paul George at the defensive end and he could be a part of the core with George and Myles Turner. He also will allow the Pacers to part ways with Lance Stephenson, though I get the feeling that they are too attached at this point.

What else to do with this pick: They player taken right after this spot, Caleb Swanigan, would also be a nice fit and he would work well next to Turner. T.J. Leaf helps with team shooting as well. The Pacers will likely have their ears open to trade offers for Paul George, but it is going to take a lot to get him i.e. Second overall pick and Brandom Ingram (Lakers probably say no, but should they?)

 19. Atlanta Hawks: Caleb Swanigan, PF, Purdue

Instagram Photo

Who he is: A double-double machine who put up video game-like numbers in his second season. He is not the most athletic forward, but he extended his range last year and dominated on the glass. He should be able to contribute immediately with an NBA body.

Why they’ll pick him: This dude just screams Paul Millsap. I might be projecting, but Swanigan has all the tools to be a dominant rebounder, post-presence and even three-point shooter. Millsap has said he wants to test free-agency, and the Hawks may want to try actually being bad one year. They are always so painfully average, building around Swanigan and other young pieces may actually net them a lottery pick instead of another eight seed. What a novel concept.

What else to do with this pick: If the plan is to offer Millsap whatever he wants, then the Hawks are going all in and shooting for a five seed. In that case, a wing threat would really help them out. I think all the noteworthy ones were drafted at this point, so depth at guard I guess?

20. Portland Trail Blazers: Justin Patton, C, Creighton

Instagram Photo

Who he is: Another athletic big man, Patton flew under the radar at a smaller school. Good at getting to the rim and playing off of crafty guards.

Why they’ll pick him: The Blazers are more than set in the backcourt, but they need a nice thick body to set screens and help them get free. Patton would be an upgrade setting screens and making plays near the rim. Defensively he will have to rely on effort and good coaching, but he can be an asset to a team that needs just a few more.

What else to do with this pick: I discussed it above, but a team like the Blazers is a good team. They do not need three first-round players to develop over the next few years. That is of course if they are just gonna fast forward until the Warriors break up because of cap issues. In that case, take it slow, relax, enjoy your 50 wins a season and try to extend Lillard and McCollum’s prime as long as possible.

21. Oklahoma City Thunder: TJ Leaf, PF, UCLA

Instagram Photo

Who he is: The smooth shooting big-man from UCLA hit close to 47% from three will benefit from playing with solid passers. He can hurt teams from mid-range as well on a pick-and-pop.

Why they’ll pick him: He could help Russell Westbrook’s assist number. Leaf can certainly shoot the ball, which is more than some of Westbrook’s supporting cast can say. We know a one-man team does not get very far in this league, and while I am not saying TJ Leaf is the other guy who will take the Thunder over the top. I am saying Westbrook will get a 20-20-20 game with Leaf on his team.

What else to do with this pick: That’s a great question. It is rare that a playoff team, two years removed from a conference finals appearance, has so many holes. Obviously losing Kevin Durant hurts. But Victor Oladipo did not up his production. Steven Adams did not up production. Westbrook did up his usage rate and production. The Thunder need a player with an ego who will get a pass from Westbrook, and not look to give it back to him. What was that? Trade this pick for Carmelo? Actually….

22. Brooklyn Nets: Terrance Ferguson, SG, Australia

Who he is: Ferguson was committed to play at Arizona this year, but he decided to play overseas in hopes of improving his draft stock. He is a good athlete, but may need time to adjust to NBA play.

Why they’ll pick him: No way he is any worse than what they have. Ferguson has the body and athleticism to play in the league, and if the Nets just put him out there with no pressure and say “do whatever you want,” he could develop into a solid wing threat.

What else to do with this pick: Hope the Celtics feel bad for you and trade you back the third overall pick. The Nets have been bad the past few years, they were bad this year, and they will continue to struggle unless they strike gold in the draft. It is much harder to get lucky when you are drafting this late in the first round.

23. Toronto Raptors: Jordan Bell, PF, Oregon

Instagram Photo

Who he is: A tournament hero who helped bring his team to the Final Four. Bell was a beast on the glass and saw his draft stock shoot up as a result.

Why they’ll pick him: The Raptors got exposed on the glass in their playoff losses. Serge Ibaka did not do enough inside, and if the Raptors keep throwing up bricks in the playoffs, they need somebody to retrieve them. Bell is high energy on both sides of the ball, and will give the Raptors some toughness.

What else to do with this pick: The Raptors are another team with some decisions to make. Kyle Lowry is a free agent, and it seems like this team’s ceiling as constructed is the conference finals. Is a rookie the missing piece to beating the Cavaliers or the Celtics? My bet is no. The Raptors could look to shop one of their backcourt stars and try to move up for an impact player. But that would be a bold move.

24. Utah Jazz: Jawun Evans, PG, Oklahoma State

Instagram Photo

Who he is: The Big-12 guard proved himself as a capable scorer and distributor and he is also the sixth best point guard in this draft. The gap between five and six will be large in pick number, but Evans is not at a lack for talent or speed.

Why they’ll pick him: George Hill is going to get a boatload of money in free agency, but it might not be the Jazz who are paying him. If this is the case, the Jazz need to back up their backcourt. Evans brings some much-needed athleticism to this team and can be an elite perimeter stopper to pair with the stifle tower. He also may get Gordon Hayward some better looks, and the Jazz need anything they can to incentivize him to stay.

What else to do with this pick: Ask Gordon Hayward who he wants to play with. Or pick a long-term project. The Jazz can go two ways in this draft, all depending on if they think Gordon Hayward is going to accept or decline his player option. Jawun Evans would help the team now, but a foreign-born player, or a freshman who did not play much would be a backup plan if it looks like Hayward is going to test the market.

25. Orlando Magic: Edrice (Bam) Adebayo, C, Kentucky

Who he is: Adebayo is a physical presence on the inside who excels on the glass and clear out space. He will not score much in a face-up or pick and pop game, but he should contribute rolling to the rim, running the floor and cleaning up the offensive glass.

Why they’ll pick him: Since Dwight Howard left, the Magic have struggled to find a suitable rim protector. The bigs they currently have on their team do not get the job done. Adebayo can play both front court positions and could help redefine the Magic team. In a time of no contact and threes from half-court, Adebayo could bring physicality and hustle to a Magic team that needs something to fall back on.

What else to do with this pick: Like I said before, stop getting the raw end of trade deals. It is unlikely that any trade involving the Magic’s picks will be “win-later,” deals so they should focus on accumulating assets. Shoring up the middle should be a priority, but perimeter scoring comes in a close second if the Magic do not address that need with pick number 6

26. Portland Trail Blazers: Sindarius Thornwell, SG, South Carolina

Instagram Photo

Who he is: The man with one of the cooler names in the NCAA tournament, Thornwell became a household name with his stellar two-way play in the NCAA tournament.

Why they’ll pick him: The Blazers gave the Warriors a decent series two years ago, and picking Thornwell would benefit the effort against the Golden Empire. While Thornwell had his coming out party during the 2017 NCAA tournament, he was solid all year for the Gamecocks. He could provide backcourt depth, and even play small ball three if he has to.

What else to do with this pick: The Blazers have other needs, but they also have other picks. Thornwell in this situation is a pick specifically to compete with the Warriors. The Blazers can use their other picks to make sure they get that far.

27. Brooklyn Nets: Thomas Bryant, C, Indiana

Instagram Photo

Who he is: Bryant deferred his draft potential last year to return for his sophomore season at Indiana. While his jump shooting improved, Indiana did not and neither did his draft stock.

Why they’ll pick him: In his second year, Bryant developed almost into a Brook Lopez lite. He shot more threes and started drifting further and further away from the basket. His rebounding and rim protection went down a bit, but the Nets need some warm bodies. Bryant can score and will provide some good emotion.

What else to do with this pick: One of the benefits of being terrible is that it’s hard to sink any lower. Even just finding a solid rotation player is a win for the Nets. All positions are positions of need until they finally get out from under their trade for Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. Draft 2019 is not soon enough for Nets’ fans.

28. Los Angeles Lakers: Tyler Lydon, SF, Syracuse

Instagram Photo

Who he is: A shot capable wing with good size but only average athleticism. He did not defend man-to-man much in college and he is going to need to be a lights out shooter if he cannot defend in the NBA.

Why they’ll pick him: If they pick Lonzo Ball second overall, he will need somebody to pass to. Lydon could provide knockdown shooting off the bench and he may develop into a capable defender. Surrounding ball with shooting is a worthy strategy to compete in the modern NBA

What else to do with this pick: Dwayne Bacon, Tyler Dorsey, Alec Peters. Pick a shooter and put him around Lonzo Ball. This pick could be moved if somebody else is desperate to move up, or it could be paired with an expiring contract to move up.

29. San Antonio Spurs: Isaiah Hartenstein, PF, Germany

Instagram Photo

Who he is: A poor man’s version of Markkanen, he is able to stretch the floor but does not provide much defensively.

Why they’ll pick him: The Spurs need to get younger on the front line, and Hartenstein can develop behind LaMarcus Aldridge and Pau Gasol. The Spurs work well with international players, and Hartenstein could be a project that pays off for them once their older big men retire.

What else to do with this pick: Pick to beat the Warriors. Pick the rangiest, longest and most athletic defender still available. Since Kawhi Leonard got hurt in the first game of the Western Conference Finals, nobody knows for sure how close the Spurs are to the Warriors. A player like Thornwell would be great if still available, but somebody like Devin Robinson could also be a good pick.

30. Utah Jazz: Ike Anigbogu, PF, UCLA

Instagram Photo

Who he is: The lesser known UCLA freshman, Anigbogu still should sneak into the first round. He is tall, has a massive wingspan and plays hard on defense. He does not offer much offensively, but can contribute as a rim protector.

Why they’ll pick him: Putting another defensive stopper next to Rudy Gobert could create an impenetrable front line for the Jazz. The Jazz may also enter rebuild mode really fast if Hayward decides to leave.

What else to do with this pick: Whatever Gordon Hayward wants. If they are serious about keeping him around, they need to put players around him who help him succeed.

Society Continues To Crumble As Kim Kardashian’s Makeup Line Makes $14M In One Day

I’m not a fan of the Kardashian clan. I think they’re valueless, materialistic, no talent scourges on society who set a horrible example for younger generations. But even I can respect their global hustle and savvy business moves. With Kim dropping a new makeup line, KKW Beauty, I can add one more item to my grow list of reasons to hate yet envy them.

The first in a long line of makeup sets were released today and it was an IMMEDIATE success. The first product sold out in 12 minutes after it hit the Internet. 12 minutes.

A few hours later, all of the products had been snatched up. All told, E News is reporting the product drop drew in around $14 million. In one day. Actually, in less than three hours. The most successful three-hour stretch of my life was when I crushed the first three episodes of Stranger Things in one sitting last summer. (It was glorious).

Kim may have as much talent as a ball of cotton, but momager Kris Jenner sure knows how to brand the absolute f— out of her. Gotta tip my cap to them for leveraging their fame into a multifaceted and rage-inspiringly lucrative empire.

Kim is estimated to be worth upwards of $100 million, meaning they’re obviously doing A LOT right. It also means I can talk as much s— as I want about how they accumulated this wealth and their actual value to society, but I’ll never in a million years equal their accomplishments.

Life is unfair. I need a hug.

Mallory Edens Instagram: Hottest Photos of Milwaukee Bucks Heir

Mallory Edens is the gorgeous and super cool daughter of Milwaukee Bucks owner Wesley Edens. Why is she gorgeous? Well, just look up at that gallery. I think those pictures speak for themselves. Why is she super cool? Glad you asked.

Amid all of the trade rumors and, uhh, confirmations surrounding New York Knicks young gun Kristaps Porzingis (#FirePhilJackson), Mallory took the time to sell the unicorn on the up-and-coming Bucks on Twitter. Even though she doesn’t actually work for her dad’s basketball team, some have been complaining that this is tampering. But when Jackson himself is telling any and all who will listen that Porzingis is on the block, I think we can give Mallory a pass.

via Sports Illustrated

On Tuesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of The Verticalreported that Jackson has been weighing the possibility of trading Porzingis. Jackson recently met with Arizona forward Lauri Markkanen, who the Knicks could select with the No. 8 overall pick in Thursday’s draft.

The Knicks have received several calls about Porzingis already, according to ESPN’s Ian Begley. Jackson confirmed those calls.

“We’re listening but we’re not intrigued yet at this level,” Jackson told MSG.

Jackson said that in his time coaching that he has never had a player skipped a meeting and was surprised because he’s had a good relationship with Porzingis.

“As much as we love this guy, we have to do what’s best for the club,” Jackson added.

Mallory, who was last seen on Twitter roasting Bill Simmons, was shocked to see what was unfolding.

Soon, she was throwing Milwaukee’s hat in the ring for the Zinger.

If that wasn’t enough, Mallory’s follow up tweet proved she gets what she wants as she compared herself to Veruca Salt from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I’m in love.

Confederations Cup 2017 Live Stream: Watch Germany vs. Chile Online

Facing off at the Kazan Arena in Russia this Thursday, Germany vs. Chile looks to be a contentious matchup in determining who finishes at the top of Group B. While Germany was the heavy pre-tournament favorite, their 3-2 victory over Australia was not quite the dominating performance many were expecting from the powerhouse soccer club.

Although Chile struggled throughout most of their opener to dispatch Cameroon with two late game goals, they did shut out their opponent. Given Germany’s somewhat porous defense, Chile could press the attack early and overwhelm German goaltender Bernd Leno.

For Germany to stave off defeat, they will have to manage the pace of play and tighten up their defensive shortcomings. Either way, this matchup has two high-quality soccer clubs that each bring unique skill sets to the table for what should be an extremely entertaining Confederations Cup matchup.

Canadian Sniper DRILLS An ISIS Fighter From 2 Miles Away Like A God Damn Legend

Comedy Central

Canada?! Who knew the ole’ Canucks were nice with the sniper game? When you think of Canada, you think of hockey, syrup, Justin Bieber, and impeccable bedside manner, not bad ass special forces dudes blowing an evil motherf*cker’s head off from 11,000 feet away.

To be honest, I didn’t even know Canadian forces were deployed in Iraq. I’m no geopolitical expert, but I’ve always just assumed the Canadians keep to themselves. Well, in this case, luckily I was wrong, because not only are Canadians out there fighting the good fight but apparently, are straight dominating the competition.

According to reports, a sniper with Canada’s elite special forces in Iraq broke the world record for the longest confirmed kill shot in military history at a distance of 11,614 feet.

via The Globe and Mail:

The Canadian Armed Forces confirmed Thursday that a member of Joint Task Force 2 made the record-breaking shot, killing an Islamic State insurgent during an operation in Iraq within the last month.

“The Canadian Special Operations Command can confirm that a member of Joint Task Force 2 successfully hit a target at 3,540 metres,” the forces said in a statement. “For operational security reasons and to preserve the safety of our personnel and our Coalition partners we will not discuss precise details on when and how this incident took place.”

The elite sniper was using a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle while firing from a high-rise during an operation that took place within the last month in Iraq. It took under 10 seconds to hit the target.

The previous record was held by British soldier Craig Harrison, who killed a Taliban soldier with a 338 Lapua Magnum rifle at a range of from 8,120 feet away in 2009.

Ron Howard Is Your New ‘Han Solo’ Director

Following several days of the rumor mill churning out speculation, it has become official that Ron Howard will take over for the fired Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie21 Jump Street) as director on the Han Solo spinoff movie.

Howard is, of course, a seasoned veteran in the filmmaking game who has enjoyed plenty of success (Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, etc). But he’s also a safe, non-threatening and unsexy choice that promises not to upset the Lucasfilm tentpole factory. Make of that what you will.

In all likelihood the Han Solo movie will be solid and make a billion dollars at the box office, but try and keep in mind the situation surrounding this movie.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy bodied Lord and Miller over “creative difference,” which is the PC way to say “these guys wouldn’t toe the company line.” Based on background reports, it sounds as if Miller and Lord’s improvisational and humorous style didn’t vibe with Lucasfilm’s more structured approach. Screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, who is enshrined in nerd Hall of Fame for writing The Empire Strikes Back, also bitched about them turning Han Solo into a source of comedy instead of a sarcastic asshole. Love me some Kasdan, but squeezing some humor out of your main character and trying to ensure audiences have a good time is pretty reasonable.

At the end of the day, Kennedy swung the axe and replaced them with Howard, a competent if unexciting choice.

We can’t jump to conclusions before a single frame of footage has been screened for fans. We also can’t judge Lucasfilm too harshly given they’re 2-for-2 in Disney-owned Star Wars movies with a combined $3.12 billion at the box office. But a concerning track record is starting to emerge.

Michael Arndt, the original screenwriter for The Force Awakens, was fired. Then, Josh Trank was booted from a Boba Fett movie (which was the right call). Then, Rogue One director Gareth Edwards was sidelined so Tony Gilroy could oversee the film’s massive reshoots. Now, Lord/Miller were unceremoniously dumped FIVE MONTHS into production. That is unprecedented for a major Hollywood blockbuster.

Sooner or later, all of these creative speed bumps could start catching up to the studio.

Laura Ramos Photos: Full Story & Must-See Pictures of Teacher

Laura Ramos, a 31-year-old married special education teacher at Central High School in Connecticut, was arrested Tuesday by police for allegedly having a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old student.

What Happened?

Ramos has been charged with second-degree sexual assault after police say she engaged in a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old student who she allegedly told that her husband wasn’t satisfying her.

Central High School officials placed Ramos on administrative leave following her arrest Tuesday, The Connecticut Post reports. The 31-year-old’s lawyer says his client is “cloaked in the presumption of innocence.”

Officers were called to the school on June 9 following a complaint of sexual assault. Officers said a student told a teacher that Ramos had been having sexual intercourse with one of her students in the special education program.

Police say Ramos told them she had engaged in a relationship with the 18-year-old from December 2016 to April 2017. According to police, the two had multiple sexual encounters during this time.

A separate student told police that Ramos had been texting with him, WFSB reports. In those text, Ramos allegedly revealed that her husband was not satisfying her.

“Ms. Ramos would complain that her ‘man’ or ‘guy’ does not want to have sex or do anything with her,” according to police documents.

The student said he he began to believe another classmate was having a sexual relationship with Ramos.

“Witness 1 noticed the victim would hang out in Ms. Ramos’ class and…would watch them make eyes at each other like flirting,” court documents said. The witness also told police that his text message conversation with Ramos included sexually-charged content. Ramos reportedly even asked about the possibility of buying marijuana “for her and her man.”

The teacher initially denied having a sexual relationship with the student when detectives first approached her. Later, she admitted that the investigation had scared her to the point that she asked the victim to deny their relationship, police say. The two also discussed deleting text messages sent between them.

Eventually, she admitted to police that she and the student had sex “a handful of times” in her car – the most recent encounter having taken place in April. On Monday, Ramos resigned from the school even though the district had already begun the process of terminating her employment.

“Please be assured that the safety and welfare of our students is our main priority at Bridgeport Public Schools, and we make every effort to ensure the ongoing safety of our students,” the district said in a statement.

“We take seriously all allegations of inappropriate conduct which threatens the well-being of our students, and such misconduct will not be tolerated.”

Derek Carr Net Worth 2017: How Much Is Oakland Raiders Quarterback Worth Now?

0

Derek Carr has played 3 seasons with the Oakland Raiders and has shown improvement each year that he is this team’s starting quarterback for years to come. Carr is a rising star in this league having been elected to the pro-bowl and leading this team to a 12-4 record this past season. Carr has all the intangibles that a team could want in their QB and he has the determination to make this a winning franchise again.

Derek Carr Net Worth as of 2017: $146.7 Million

Derek Carr has proven he can play the position and is net worth showed as he was worth $23.5 million. That was from his current contract and personal investments until as of this morning. The Oakland Raiders released breaking news saying that they have agreed to a $125 million extension with Carr that will span the next few years.

With the last year of his four year contract taken off the books due to this new deal, his new net worth is astounding 146.7 million. We’ll show you how he got to this point.

Carr’s first two seasons in the league showed promise as he accumulated 21 tds and 3,270 yds his first season and then 32 tds and 3,987 yds his second year. By just looking at those stats you would think the kid was flawless and was considered a top tier qb. The one blimp on his game however, was that he had a tendency for turning the ball over. Carr committed 35 turnovers over his first two seasons and was determined to flip the script; only his play but also the direction of the team.

Carr’s third season in the league was his most impressive up to this point. He threw for 28 touchdowns, 3,937 yards and a passer rating of 96.7. However, maybe the most impressive statistic was limiting his turnovers. He only committed 8 turnovers this past season and led his team to the second best record in the AFC.

He finally got bad news when he suffered a broken fibula in week 16 against the Colts and was ruled out for the rest of the season. He has been rehabbing feverishly since and is motivated to get his shot at bringing this team back to the Superbowl after years of embarrassment.

With this new deal, Carr won’t have to worry in the slightest about expenses and can shift all his focus to the upcoming season.

‘Rocco’s Modern Life’ Will Be Returning To Your Television In 2018

Nickelodeon

I mean, since literally everything in pop culture is rebooted these days, might as well start rebooting children’s cartoons too, right?

That’s right people, Rocko’s Modern Life, the cult cartoon classic known for its adult innuendos, will be returning to American television screens in 2018.

How or why a reboot of Rocko is coming out 22-years after the show went off the air is beyond me, but frankly, it isn’t important. With the entire original cast and crew returning, the Rocko special is going to be an hour of the primetime nostalgia we all crave.

via Uproxx:

The one-hour special will reunite creator Joe Murray with the original voice cast, including Carlos Alazraqui (Rocko), Tom Kenny (Heffer and Really Really Big Man), “Mr. Lawrence” (Filburt), Charlie Adler (Ed and Bev Bighead), and Linda Wallem (Dr. Hutchinson). With the possible exception of Ren & Stimpy,Rocko’s was Nickelodeon’s weirdest show, with a reliance on surreal gags and“adult” jokes that kids wouldn’t understand until years later.

And not only is the entire cast and crew returning, but the plot of the special is objectively excellent:

Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling brings the characters back to Earth after being lost in outer space since 1996. Rocko has trouble accepting this 21st century modern life, while Heffer and Filburt embrace every aspect of new technology, social media, and the endless diversity of food trucks. Rocko believes that his nostalgia for the past can save him from the tortures of the modern world.

In Layman’s terms, the show might literally pick up from where it left off, only 22 years in the future. It will be as if Rocko aged with all the millennials who watched his show when they were kids.

I’m not sure anyone asked for a Rocko’s Modern Reboot, but I can guarantee most millennials will tune in, myself included.

Tarsha Clarke: Full Story & Must-See Details on Teacher

Tarsha Clarke, a teacher at Western Rockingham Middle School in North Carolina, is accused of forcing several students to stand up and apologize for their “white privilege” during class.

What Happened?

American Lens first reported the allegations which surfaced on May 8 at a meeting of the Rockingham County School Board. Most of the public comments reportedly were in opposition to ongoing “equity training” in the district.

During the meeting, a woman named Farren Wilkinson addressed the board with the allegations against Clarke. Text of her opening comments can be found below:

“I just want to share light on a situation that happened at Western Rockingham Middle School where a teacher caused some of her students to stand up and apologize to other students based on their inequal opportunities of education. So I would like to know how our schools can allow an educator to humiliate, bully and degrade students. This is not a matter of race but a matter of a teacher using fear and the embarrassment of children to satisfy her own personal anger or beliefs.”

There is also video of Wilkinson’s full statement.

Clarke is a 6th grade English Language Arts teacher at the school, according to several parents who spoke with American Lens. One parent told the outlet the incident was even more specific than Wilkinson’s account.

According to that parent, Clarke forced her white students to stand in front of the class and apologize to the minority students for their, “white privilege.”

When asked to comment, Principal of Western Rockingham Middle School Stephanie Wray indicated that no such incident occurred.

“In regard to your additional requests, I can not speak on any individual, however any allegations brought to our attention are investigated thoroughly and proper disciplinary action is taken if needed. Again, I can not speak regarding specific individuals due to personnel law, however the particular incident you asked about was unfounded to happen at our school,” wrote Wray.

Wray confirmed that Clarke is still employed at the school.

I’ve been beating the ‘Jake Gyllenhaal is the best actor in Hollywood ‘ drum for quite some time now. Just take a look at the dude’s filmography over the last decade and find me ONE truly bad movie.

Exactly, you can’t. Hell, even Prince Of Persia was moderately watchable, and that’s only because Gyllenhaal is such a god damn stud.

Stronger, which comes out in September, tells the story of Jeff Bauman, a man who lost both of his legs during the Boston Marathon bombing. W

College Student Wins $1 Million Lottery Scratch-Off Reward

Remember her name: Erin Haggerty. She is only a 20-year-old college student from Pine City, New York, who happened to win a trove full of money. In fact, Haggerty became $1,000,000 richer.

While away for college, her mother, Diane, would routinely send her daughter greeting cards with scratch-off tickets in them. Although I would simply give up after two tries because of how low the chances of winning a boat-load money are, Diane kept ’em coming.

Little did she know, the St. Patrick’s Day card came with a “Win $1,000 a Week for Life” ticket inside. When she scratched off three “LIFE” symbols, the business administration major won a guaranteed $1,000,000 prize.

“I immediately had visions of living well after college,” explained Haggerty. “Then I went out and did one of my favorite things. I went shopping!”

Haggerty’s mother initially bought the golden scratch-off ticket at the Wegmans on South Bridge Street in Corning. “I send tickets to my daughter and my nieces and nephews. It’s a little entertainment to break up the monotony and there are plenty of one and two dollar tickets that you can buy without spending a lot of money.

If I won that enormous sum of money, I want to have it to be paid as a one-time lump sum. Haggerty must’ve read my mind as she did the same exact thing. She will receive a net check totaling $536,090 after required withholdings.

Haggerty is the 28th New York Lottery player to win a prize of $1,000,000 or more in 2017.

Don’t think purchasing one to two dollar worth lottery tickets is a waste. Instead, you might be a lucky winner like Erin Haggerty!

The Hawaiian YouTuber Mark “Markiplier” Fischback won the award for the top gaming influencer in the world by Forbes. His rise to fame was paved with hundreds of silly videos, mostly of him playing a video game and commentating it.

It’s a simple concept, but his hard work has accumulated over 7 billion views on his videos and over 17 million subscribers. He’s also held several fundraisers accumulating over $1.5 million in donations.

So, how much is the YouTube legend worth? According to a leaked OurMine screenshot of his Maker Studios’ network page, he earned a shocking $665,820.16 in November of 2015 before taxes. Aside from that, speculative claims vary across the Internet from anywhere between $3 to $10 million.

“Markiplier’s Net Worth as of 2017: 7 Million

2012-2013

The Hawaiian star joined YouTube on March 6th, 2012 and began posting playthroughs of games like Serious Sam 3 and Amnesia.

His channel quickly picked up lots of attention, but on its way up Markiplier hit a roadbump when YouTube banned his AdSense account.

When his unban appeal to YouTube failed, he started a new YouTube channel on May 26th, named MarkiplierGAME, and continued his work on there.

2014

By this year, Markiplier had become an international sensation. After making over 1,200 videos, he had been named one of New Media Rockstars’ Top 100 Channels, placing 61st on the list. He then moved to Los Angeles for networking opportunities and the YouTube Space program. By this time, he had reached an astounding 1.4 million subscribers in his short two-year span on the platform.

He also appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in September after Host Jimmy Kimmel received a lot of hate from his jokes against “Let’s Play” videos.

2015

Markiplier raised over $350,000 over two charity events for the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance in 2015. He also hosted a donation drive for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on April 26th and raised $70,882 in one day.

He lived with Daniel Kyre and Ryan Magee, who also created YouTube videos like sketch comedy and music for a channel called Cyndago. The collaboration resulted in around 50 original works until the group disbanded following the suicide of Kyre.

Markiplier then announced he would discontinue his Drunk Minecraft series after learning he had a deficient enzyme that helped break down alcohol. He suffered from a minor heart attack, and his doctor recommended that he not drink.

He was also featured several times in the YouTube Rewind.

2016-Now

Markiplier’s 17 million subscriber base holds him up as the 29th most popular YouTuber on the site as of today’s SocialBlade rankings, making him one of the biggest icons in the gaming scene. His consistency and lovable personality draws in massive amounts of popularity.

He started another philanthropic venture in cooperation with the Human Rights Campaign, raising $130,000 in support of LGBTQ+ rights as well.

“Today we stand by our LGBTQ+ friends to ensure equality for EVERYONE!” he wrote on the page. “Please help us raise $100,000 for the Human Rights Campaign to ensure the future stays bright and open for all!”

With the help of Revelmode, a subnetwork of Maker Sudios, he worked with Pewdiepie and other major YouTubers to raise over $1.3 million to the Gates Foundation on December 10th of last year.

He also created a choose your own adventure style of YouTube sketch that generated a lot of popularity.

Markiplier inspires millions of people with his cheerful, uplifting personality in all of his videos. He’s an iconic figure who’s positively influenced gaming culture and puts a great foot forward in every one of his playthroughs. The superstar is a well-deserved candidate for this award and for his massive income.

NBA Draft 2017: Top 10 Must-See Underrated Prospects

0
0

The NBA draft is coming up, and the top prospects are dominating headlines. The Process is working in Philadelphia, The Big Baller Brand is on their way to Los Angeles and Boston will have its pick of franchise changing talent. While the top of the draft is where teams find their cornerstones, there are players further down that will still be able to help teams. These are ten underrated prospects who could be valuable in the right system. They may not be lottery picks, but they can still be a major boost to any team that selects them. The bottom parts of NBA drafts are not famous for their bevy of talent, but this year’s prospects can provide value 1-60. Here are ten underrated or late-round prospects that teams should be looking at. Just a disclaimer; these are players I watched and researched. There may be some underrated Turkish point guard with an eight-foot wingspan, but I don’t know anything about him and I haven’t watched him play, so he is not in this article.

10. Nigel Hayes, PF, Wisconsin

Instagram Photo

Who he is: A fan favorite. Hayes was a four-year contributor for a Badgers team that made the Sweet Sixteen each year he was on the team. His three-point and free-throw shooting are below average, but he is a good post player with solid athleticism. He can defend 1-4 and he would be a mature influence and solid role player for any team that picks him up.

Why is he considered underrated?: He never quite lived up to his high expectations (he was Big-Ten preseason player of the year) at Wisconsin, and his shooting never developed to an NBA level. Still, his off the court intangibles and post ability should carve him out a spot on an NBA roster.

Where he fits: A team with a socially minded coach like the Spurs or Warriors would enjoy a presence like Hayes around. His toughness could also fit well with a team like Memphis or in Milwaukee. (Side note…Somebody draft Bronson Koenig)

9. Harry Giles, PF, Duke

Who he is: Giles was the top recruit in 2016 despite tearing his ACL twice in high school. Giles missed the first few games of the season, and never really got into any sort of groove. That being said, the potential is still there and he could be a mid-round steal.

Why is he considered underrated?: Mr. Giles here has some problems with his knees. These injuries have wrecked his athleticism and taken away much of what made him a great player. Still, as Giles recovers he should rediscover some of his talents and confidence. If he does he could be one of the best players to come out of this draft.

Where he fits: A team that is willing to take risks. The Miami Heat have stable owners, a stable front office, and a stable coach. Giles could be a prospect for a team like the Heat that doesn’t love to build through the draft. He also could be an option for the Nets or Magic later in the first round. These teams need to buy low and hope Giles recovers from his injuries.

8. Thomas Bryant, C, Indiana

Instagram Photo

Who he is:  Bryant deferred his draft potential last year to return for his sophomore season at Indiana. While his jump shooting improved, Indiana did not and neither did his draft stock. His decision to take more threes does make him more versatile going forward.

Why is he considered underrated?: Bryant played for a disappointing Indiana team and he never really put up huge numbers. That being said, his game still took big steps forward. He developed a shot from the perimeter and even started some fast breaks by bringing the ball up the court himself. As long as he becomes more versatile without developing a total guard’s mindset, Bryant could be a solid big man in the new NBA.

Where he fits: The Nets could take a flier to try and replace Brook Lopez, or the Spurs can try to get younger in the frontcourt. The Raptors, Blazers or Jazz could all be options at the end of the first round.

7. Sindarius Thornwell, SF, South Carolina

Instagram Photo

Who he is: The man with one of the cooler names in the NCAA tournament, Thornwell became a household name with his stellar two-way play in the NCAA tournament. He is a capable offensive player but will contribute mostly on the defensive end.

Why is he considered underrated?: Thornwell is not an elite talent but developed during his time at South Carolina. He showed off on a national stage during the tournament and really helped his draft stock. He may not have climbed into the first round but should still be able to contribute as a second round pick.

Where he fits: Any contender that needs to guard the Warriors could use Thornwell. The Blazers, the Celtics, the Spurs and others could look at Thornwell at the end of the first or in the mid-second round.

6. Frank Mason III, PG, Kansas

Instagram Photo

Who he is: Mason was the Naismith player of the year and cemented his legacy as a college star. In a year flush with top rated freshman, Mason was the country’s best player and consistently excellent the whole season.

Why is considered underrated?: He does not have great size and he is just an average shooter. He has a future as a backup guard or defensive stud if he can improve on that end. He finishes well and is a good passer, so teams in the early to mid-second round should take a flier.

Where he fits: The Jazz, the Spurs, the Pacers and the Thunder are all in the market for a backup point guard, and Mason will come cheaper and with more ability than most on the open market.

5. Justin Jackson, SF, North Carolina

Instagram Photo

Who he is: Jackson was a three-year contributor for the Tar Heels and a prime example of improving over his years in college. This past season he led UNC to a national championship while also winning ACC player of the year. He proved his ability to catch and shoot, score off the dribble and be a go-to scorer down the stretch.

Why is he considered underrated?: Jackson is not an elite athlete and age is not working in his favor. Experience does not carry the same value as it used to, and that is one of Jackson’s best assets. His shooting and ability to create his own shot should still carry plenty of value. He was the leader of the UNC Championship team, and always handled his business in a solid and unassuming manner.

Where he fits: Any team that needs wing scoring. The Pacers may be losing some very soon, the Bucks need some, the Heat need some, the Hornets could use as well as the Bulls and Magic. Toward the end of the lottery and shortly thereafter, look for Jackson’s name to be called.

4. Josh Hart, SG, Villanova

Instagram Photo

Who he is: An upperclassman with a ton of big-game experience and solid play throughout his time in college. He is an all around player who is good at everything he does. He may not have elite level athleticism, but his toughness makes up for it.

Why is he considered underrated?: Similar to Jackson, his best ability is his experience. Hart has won a national championship and been a major contributor on elite teams. He likely will never be the star of a team, but he can provide solid minutes off the bench and effort on both ends of the floor.

Where he fits: He would work best if he is not called upon to play heavy minutes right away, but on a contender, Hart could be a good role player.

3. Caleb Swanigan, PF, Purdue

Instagram Photo

Who he is: The Big Ten player of the year, Swanigan is a double-double machine who can rebind at an elite level. He is not the most athletic forward, but he extended his range last year and dominated on the glass. He should be able to contribute immediately with an NBA-ready body.

Why is he considered underrated?: He does not run very fast or jump very high, and in today’s NBA, those things are highly desired. If Swanigan was a pro 15 years ago he could be a lottery pick. He could be a good find in the late-first round and be an asset to a team that needs some toughness and elite rebounding. Think Tristan Thompson that doesn’t jump as high but has more touch around the rim.

Where he fits: The Pacers, the Hawks, the Blazers, the Hornets and the Spurs could all take a look at the end of the first round. He will immediately add to frontcourt depth for any team that selects him.

2. Jayson Tatum, SF, Duke

Instagram Photo

Who he is: A consensus top-5 pick and potentially the best player in this draft. He can score from anywhere on the floor, has an NBA-ready body and should contribute immediately.

Why is considered underrated?: It’s hard for such a talented prospect to be underrated, but for some reason, Tatum is. He is arguably the best scorer in this draft, and for a league centered around scoring, that should be a priority. He played high-pressure games all season for Duke and is ready to contribute right away. He is not criminally underrated, but for arguably the best player in the draft to potentially fall all the way to number six or seven would be silly.

Where he fits: The Suns should be thrilled if the Celtics pass on him, and they should be eager to grab him at four. The Magic could obviously use some help, but Tatum may not be as effective as a primary scorer. On a team like the Suns (or the Timberwolves,) Tatum can be the second option and should thrive.

1. Malik Monk, SG, Kentucky

Instagram Photo

Who he is: Another top-10 talent, Monk was a deadly shooter in his only year at Kentucky and put up some huge games in big moments. He shot almost 40 percent from three and was nearly a 50-40-80 player. His shooting should translate well and he can score from anywhere.

Why is he underrated?: Monk can go cold in some games and disappear as a primary shooting option. He is also not a primary ball handler and maybe a bit undersized for the two-guard spot. Teams at the top feel like he might be a reach, and teams toward the end of the top-10 may not need him. Still, it’s a make or miss league, and guys who make it at this rate should be picked higher than the end of the lottery (if he falls that far).

Where he fits: Everybody could use some shooting. If the Sixers can trade back into the top-10 he would fit perfectly there. The Magic could also use some scoring.

Brittany Furlan Instagram: Hottest Photos of Tommy Lee’s GF

Do you think Tommy Lee cares that we all know what his dong look likes? Probably not, right? That video of him and Pamela Anderson back in 2002 tortured adolescents with unrealistic expectations for themselves and their partners for years.

Anyway, Lee is now 54-years-old and still crushing the game hard body. The Mötley Crüe drummer was recently caught in public sucking face with 30-year-old former Vine star Brittany Furlan, the most followed female video star on Vine back in 2015. She’s a smart, clever and ridiculously attractive lady and it makes me want to punch Lee in the weiner if not for the fear that I would break my hand.

Furlan is super hot. Like way, mega, unbelievably hot. I always envisioned myself married with some almost grown kids at 54. But if I could somehow become world famous and rich and live out a Lee-like life as a middle ager, I’d take that instead. Dude is slaying just a few years short of his AARP application. Some guys have all the luck, amirite?

In case you want to be made to feel inadequate, check out Furlan’s gallery above. It will make you hate Lee even more than you did as a kid waiting for your parents to go to sleep so you could sneak downstairs and pop his sex tape with Pamela Anderson into the VCR. Yeah, we all did it. #NoShame

Enjoy, you sick savages.
