The first trailer for Mission: Impossible–Rogue Nation is out, and it all leads up to the above shot of Tom Cruise doing a ridiculously dangerous stunt where he’s hanging off an airplane that’s taking off from a runway. You don’t have your big star do something like that without cashing in quick.
Anyway, we’re not just excited for this one because Tom Cruise risked his life for a cool stunt and some pre-release publicity. We’re also big fans of Christopher McQuarrie, whose directorial debut with Way of the Gun was actually cooler than the McQuarrie-scripted The Usual Suspects. Tom Cruise sure took the guy after working with him on Jack Reacher.
We like what McQuarrie is doing here–starting with Simon Pegg getting a much larger role in things, plus the idea of an anti-MI force. The trailer states that’s the big hook really clearly, so no spoilers there. Take a look and get spoiled for action…
