Friday the 13th had a big finish with the 2015 Big Sky Conference Semifinal between Montana and Northern Arizona–culminating in some of the most serious craziness to ever end a conference basketball game anywhere. We have raw video of the whole gory finish that pretty much was a perfect storm of weirdness resulting in a near-brawl.
You’ll need some idea of what’s happening, so here goes: The game gets tied at 59 points, courtesy of Northern Arizona’s Kris Yanku. There are only 8 seconds left in the game, and Montana’s Jordan Gregory goes nuts with a layup that puts his team ahead at 61-59 with 4 seconds left in the game.
That’s all just an exciting game, but then a Montana assistant coach gets a little too carried away and leaps off the bench and onto the court. It’s pretty amazing to watch him dive back across the sideline to try and beat a technical foul. It’s not fast enough for NAU coach Jack Murphy, though. He’s in the dark suit, and pissed off that the refs don’t call a foul over the mistake. Yanku makes a valiant shot to tie up the game, misses, and Northern Arizona loses the game.
Which could still be peaceful, but UM coach Travis DeCuire walks up to shake Murphy’s hand, and that doesn’t go well. It looks to us like Murphy shouts, “You cheated!” while shaking hands, and we know for sure that Coach DeCuire doesn’t appreciate getting that response. We don’t support fighting in sports, so don’t watch if you expect to see the coaches throwing punches–but it sure gets close. Take a look and marvel at this big weird finish…
