The story of Josh Hamilton is one that could fill an entire book. Hamilton was the No. 1 overall pick in the Major League Baseball draft 15 years ago. He was soon out of baseball because of drug use. He got his career on track and won MVP in 2010 before signing a five-year, $125 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels which appeared to get everything going in the right direction.
It appears though that Hamilton’s drug and alcohol issues have caught up to him again. Sources told multiple media outlets on Wednesday that Hamilton was in New York to discuss a “disciplinary issue” where he confessed to a binge that involved cocaine. There will no doubt be a suspension for Hamilton which could last towards the All-Star break depending on what MLB wants to do.
It had to take a lot for Hamilton to just admit he had the relapse. It shows that he knows when he needs help and when to reach out for it. Hopefully, he can get his life truly back on track and can return to the Angels sooner than later. His career and life and the demons that have dragged him down before though are probably ruined now.
