Fifty Shades of Grey is the box-office success that it was supposed to be over this Valentine’s Day weekend–but it didn’t start out doing Twilight numbers. Fifty Shades opened to $30 million on Friday, but the first entry in the Twilight saga had over $36 million in tickets. We don’t know if we’re supposed to find that comforting.
We are happy to see that Fifty Shades will be knocking out the sappy 2010 movie Valentine’s Day as the biggest hit over a President’s Day holiday weekend. Also, it looks like the entire kinky sex industry is set to thrive over what’s now a projected (at least) $90 million four-day weekend. Now the industry insiders are waiting to see if Fifty Shades will top the Passion of the Christ for the best February box-office ever.

More good news: 82% of the Fifty Shades audience was female. Some of them might have looked like Dakota Johnson. We’re also excited to see Fifty Shades is doing really well in small towns and in the Southern states that most movie studios still consider to be all prudish.
You can always catch up on our Fifty Shades Cliff Notes, and enjoy some hot Fifty Shades GIFs from home. Also, Kingsman: The Secret Service is doing pretty well in theaters, too. That’s cool. It’s a spy film with some real surprises. Not so much kinky sex, though. At least, we weren’t offended by Kingsman‘s twist on the old Bond-back-in-the-bed ending.
