Kate McKinnon took on the thankless role of being Justin Bieber for parodies of Calvin Klein ads on last night’s Saturday Night Live–and that was pretty smart casting. We also don’t have any complaints about Cecily Strong looking hot as a non-parody of awesome Aussie model Lara Stone. (You can find sexier #MyCalvin moments here.)
Those ads were a needed running gag through the night, too. Last night’s SNL got off to one of its worst starts ever, with the cold open as a lame Martin Luther King sketch that mainly demonstrated that Pete Davidson is the least ready-for-prime-time player in the show’s long history. They need to keep him reading off the teleprompter during Weekend Update, because he’s really not capable of doing that during a sketch.
They even had Davidson at a desk during that entire MLK bit, and he still had to keep looking offstage. It’s impressive that he could tear his eyes long enough to shout the show’s name at the end–which started the show, but all we got was a Kevin Hart standup routine for the opening monologue.
Things didn’t get much better from there, but these #MyCalvin parodies were a cool distraction. It’ll help you understand why so many people are saying, “My peepee’s in there” later on today. We’re also happy to say that Justin Bieber’s fans aren’t blowing up Twitter in outrage. Maybe they’re growing up…
