Deschutes-Brewery-Jubelale

As you are running out to buy the last of your Christmas gifts, or lighting another candle for Hanukkah, undoubtedly the most important item in your hand will be the booze that is keeping you sane! This week’s beer review is on a beer that’s perfect for all celebrations. This weekend Deschutes Brewery’s Jubelale is What’s on Tap!

Located in one of the great American craft beer states, Oregon, Deschutes is currently one of the few breweries that rarely bottles, or kegs, a bad brew, and Jubelale is no exception. What I love about this winter ale is the subtle flavor combination that fills both the beer’s aroma and taste. Jubeale has a great smell of sweet caramel and toffee but the hint of the fruity and slightly earthy characteristics is what I enjoy most. With each sip comes the distinct earthy and chicory flavor.

The chicory pairs very nicely with the malt qualities of the beer and intermingled is the fruits – I am guessing figs, raisins? Also throughout each sip is the typical winter spices, ginger, nutmeg, allspice; but these are very subtle so they compliment, not overpower. One the backend of the beer is the hoppy finish that some winter ales lack; but it is perfect for Jubelale!

From the chicory to the malt to the fruits and spices and finishing with the hops there nothing to not like about this winter warmer. And because of its complex flavor profile it can go well with almost any meal but tonight I am pairing Jubelale with my mom’s homemade lasagna. The cheese and the meat will combine nicely with the fruit and winter spices of the brew. So this weekend and throughout next week enjoy one of the finest winter brews!

Cheers!
