Want to know the highest-paid presidents at American’s private universities? The Chronicle for Higher Education was sure curious, and just provided some very interesting figures–including this Top Five…
Shirley Ann Jackson: The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY – $7,143,312
John L. Lahey: Quinnipiac University, Hamden, Conn. – $3,759,076
Lee C. Bollinger: Columbia University, New York, NY – $3,389,917
Amy Gutmann: University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Penn. -$2,473,952
Charles R. Middleton: Roosevelt University, Chicago, Ill., $1,762,956
Yeah, that’s some serious money–and you’ll find that the presidents of Stanford, Princeton, and Harvard are stuck in the neighborhood of a mere 900k a year. Which makes it all the more baffling that Shirley Ann Jackson is hauling in a cool $7 million and change over at Rensselaer Polytechnic.
The Chronicle for Higher Education has some thoughts about that, too–and while the high figures for some college presidents are making news, we also like the gossip that CHE digs up on Jackson. Check out that article and all the other salaries, and decide if you’re ready to feel enraged or grateful.
