The Mirror Lake Jump that Ohio State University students partake in is one of the oldest and greatest traditions in college sports. In the week that leads up to their big game against Michigan, college students have been jumping into “Mirror Lake,” a shallow, stone-lined pond. Yes, usually alcohol is involved. It’s college.
Last year, police and school officials tried to crack down on the sh*tshow by fencing off the pond and issuing wristbands to try to keep numbers somewhat contained… Well, that’s a strategy that will only work if OSU students want it to. They didn’t and trampled the fence a full 24-hours early.
And in anticipation of the Ohio State University vs. Michigan game that kicks off this week, OSU students took part in what is now known as “Mirror Lake Monday.” Students started trickling in 8 P.M. but really only got the party started around 10 P.M. and it ended around midnight.
We can’t help but feel that the Ohio State’s excitement for these games has gotten a little crazy considering the fact that Michigan’s football program is now at the level of a glorified D-III school.
But all the same, here are photos from last year’s Mirror Lake jump–yet another reason why going to Ohio State University is a good idea.
