Chick-fil-A has listened to its customers and will be making some changes to the organizations and groups it chooses to financially support moving forward. According to a statement from the company, Chick-fil-A will stopp supporting anti-LGBTQ groups and charities beginning in 2020.
The company had previously come under fire for its support of companies like the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Salvation Army.
“Beginning in 2020, the Chick-fil-A Foundation is introducing a more focused giving approach to deepen its giving to a smaller number of organizations in three primary areas,” the company said in a statement.
“[The Chick-fil-A Foundation] will no longer make multiyear commitments and will reassess its philanthropic partnerships annually to allow maximum impact. These partners could include faith-based and non-faith-based charities.”
Now, rather than donating to faith-based groups, the Chick-fil-A Foundation plans to give its support to groups that focus on education, homelessness, and hunger.

- To support education, we are expanding our partnership with Junior Achievement USA (JA). JA offers kindergarten to 12th grade programs that foster work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills, and use experiential learning to inspire students to dream big and reach their potential. The Chick-fil-A Foundation has been an ongoing supporter of Junior Achievement since 2013, having donated more than $7 million.
- To fight the cycle of hunger, we will support more than 120 communities by dedicating $25,000 to a local food bank at each new Chick-fil-A opening. In addition to these donations, Chick-fil-A restaurants have helped and will continue to help alleviate hunger through the Shared Table program.
- To address youth homelessness, we are partnering with Covenant House International. Covenant House reaches 70,000 youth each year and has helped transform and save the lives of more than a million homeless, runaway and trafficked young people. The Chick-fil-A Foundation previously named Covenant House International and Covenant House California as 2019 True Inspiration Award winners.
Now, if only they can continue to hold off Popeyes and that beloved chicken sandwich.
