Nathaniel Berhow, the 16-year-old suspected shooter at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, California, allegedly hinted at his attack on Thursday, November 14 with an ominous message on social media. An image from his alleged Instagram account has been making the rounds with a sinister message in the bio.
According to authorities, the bio was updated on Thursday morning before the attack.
“Saugus, have fun at school tomorrow,” the message read.
The authenticity of the account, however, remains a question. According to the Daily Mail, an Instagram spokesperson said that the account in question did not actually belong to the suspected shooter.
“We disabled this account for violating our policies. We can confirm it did not belong to the shooter,” the spokesperson said.
Police, meanwhile, believe that the suspected shooter is the person responsible for the message.
The shooting left two dead and four other victims injured — three reportedly in critical condition at nearby Henry Mayo Hospital. including two males and one female. The female victim, who was 16 years old, passed away at the hospital from her injuries. A second student, a 14-year-old male, also died in the hospital. The two students who passed away were among those taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The other victims included a 15-year-old female, a 14-year-old male, and a 14-year-old female.
Berhow, who is just 16 years old and was a member of the school’s track team, is listed in grave condition after a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The suspect was one of the six injured students who was found on the quad of the high school. He carried out the shooting on his birthday. The suspect pulled out a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol and shot five victims before turning the gun on himself. The weapon “had no more rounds in it” when it was recovered.
