The Temple football program will be the latest college football team to wear special throwback uniforms as part of Under Armour’s 150th-anniversary celebration. The Owls will wear their Heritage uniforms this weekend when they play host Tulane Green Wave.
The uniforms are a throwback to uniforms the team wore on New Year’s Day in 1935. On that day, the Temple Owls played Tulane in the first-ever Sugar Bowl — Temple was then coached by Pop Warner.
“Dressed in crisp white helmets and jerseys, coupled with Temple’s iconic cherry red pants and detailing, the current-day football Owls will storm the field on gameday in striking style that will embody the program’s place in college football history,” the Under Armour release read.
The California Golden Bears and Utah Utes will also be wearing their Heritage Uniforms this weekend.
Temple currently sits at 6-3 on the year and is third-place in the American Athletic Conference East Division behind Cincinnati and UCF. The Owls finish off their 2019 campaign with a meeting against No. 17 Cincinnati on Saturday, November 23 and Connecticut on November 30.
Kickoff between the Owls and Tulane at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday, November 16 is set for 12:00 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
