Hysteria over the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich has led to a death, according to FOX 5 in Washington, D.C. Seriously. According to reports, a fight began inside of a Popeyes restaurant in Maryland over the beloved Popeyes Chicken Sandwich.
A man allegedly cut in front of another man in line which sparked the fight. The altercation then escalated outside of the restaurant where a knife was pulled and one of the men was fatally stabbed.
“We have been able to determine, preliminarily, that this is related to the release of the sandwich here at this restaurant… this individual was in line specifically for the sale of the sandwich when another customer and he got into an altercation and that ended with the victim being stabbed outside of the business,” Prince George Police Department Director of Media Relations Jennifer Donelan said in a statement.
The man who was fatally stabbed in the parking lot of the restaurant was 28 years old died from the injuries after being transported to the local hospital, while the suspect remains on the loose. Police are hoping that the suspect will turn himself in.
An investigation by the Prince George Police Department is currently underway.
When the sandwich first became a viral sensation, it took just two weeks for Popeyes to run out of what was supposed to be a seven-week inventory.
“We didn’t expect to break the internet, and as a result we had the entire nation really excited about the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich,” CEO of Restaurant Brands International José Cil said at the time the product initially ran out. “As a result, we ran out much sooner than anticipated.”
But really, everyone, is the sandwich that good that it’s worth killing over? We’re going to have to say no, but this likely won’t be the last incident involving violence over the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich if its first run is any indication.
