Those of us who are Millennials and Generation Z are often criticized for being lazy or blamed for ruining every industry that came before us. But what the dinosaurs can’t take away from all of us is that our generations are responsible for some of the greatest teachers in the planet.
Most of us can remember the days where we sat at our desks struggling to stay awake while some gray-haired teacher slowly read through a textbook, but we like to get up and move.
We like to make things fun; make things exciting.
The latest example of that comes from Jennifer Hawkins, a K-8 dance teacher at Birney School in Southfield, Michigan. And this isn’t hyperbole: Ms. Hawkins is easily one of the top candidates for Teacher of the Year. We have evidence of that thanks to a now-viral video.
In the video that has taken the internet by storm, Ms. Hawkins can be seen leading her dance team down the halls of the school for a flashmob set to the tune of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” It’s the perfect song for the holiday and, quite frankly, the choreography is spot on and it may be one of the most impressive flashmobs we’ve seen. Remember, these kids aren’t even in high school yet.

Where were the teachers like that when I was in school?
It’s refreshing to see this kind of joy from students inside of the walls of their school and it is exactly the kind of content we need on the internet. After all, who doesn’t enjoy seeing people having some fun? Keep up the good work, Ms. Hawkins, you have become one of the most iconic teachers in the entire country. The only question we have now is: when are you offering us all dance lessons?
