Heard was born on April 22, 1986, in Austin, Texas. Heard was raised Catholic, but due to books by authors such as Ray Bradbury and George Orwell, Heard began to have second thoughts about the society around her. This prompted Heard to drop out of her Catholic High School in Texas and move to New York City to begin modeling. She would later move to Los Angeles in order to pursue an acting career.

Heard appeared in two music videos at the age of 17 for Kenny Chesney and Eisley and made supporting appearances in Jack and Bobby and The Mountain in 2004 and The O.C. in 2005. Heard later earned supporting roles in Friday Night Lights in 2004, North Country, Side FX and Drop Dead Sexy in 2005. Heard ultimately earned her first starring role in the slasher film All the Boys Love Mandy Lane in 2006, a part which earned her praise for her portrayal as a pensive and shy teenager.

Heard’s first starring role on the small screen was playing the love interest of the main character on The CW’s teen drama Hidden Palms in 2007 which was cut short from the scheduled 12 episodes to 8 episodes before The CW ultimately canceled the series. Heard appeared in future starring roles in Day 73 with Sarah and Remember the Haze both in 2007.

Heard achieved greater mainstream success after appearing alongside Seth Rogen and James Franco in the Judd Apatow produced stoner comedy Pineapple Express. In the same year, she also earned a role in the mixed martial arts film Never Back Down

Heard later appeared in the commercially successful films 3 Days to Kill in 2014, One More Time in 2015 and Magic Mike XXL in 2015 alongside Channing Tatum for which Digital Spy described her as “a convincing girl next door”

In 2017, Heard joined the DC Extended Universe as the love interest of Jason Mamoa’s Aquaman. She played the role in the 2017 film Justice League and the 2018 film Aquaman and is set to reprise the role in the film’s 2022 sequel.
Heard received an award from Young Hollywood actors for Breakthrough of the Year in 2008, received the Dallas Star Award at the Dallas International Film Festival in 2010 and was inducted into the Texas film Hall of Fame in 2014.

Heard didn’t enter into Hollywood in the most “traditional” way as she never attended a formal acting school and dropped out of high school at 17. Heard once spoke about her life and success and stated “I have always been very rebellious and gone against the grain. I’ve always challenged the standards set before me.” Heard’s impeccable story and rise to stardom can teach us not to limit ourselves and not to listen to what the world tells us to do.
